The California Ferrari often get more looks than you expect...a spectacular car on sale in the US when it was launched....it will be a classic darling soon...Nice work Dan
Every Ferrari has known “issues”. The California, for a Ferrari, is much more reliable then the cars that came before it. The known issues though can be wallet busters if your not aware of them. The major issues are the engine and transmission mounts, sensor issues with the top, and the big one higher then normal (compared to others cars with the same transmission) DCT speed sensor failure and wire chaffing. At first the only offered solution for repair was a new gearbox. Now there are Ferrari shops that can rebuild the DCT for below 10k as opposed to 35k for a new DCT. The California has had far more DCT issues then the FF or 458 though all cars equipped with the Getrag 7CL750 can suffer from the above mentioned failures. It’s highly speculated it’s due to heat as the 2013 and 2014 models added a secondary transmission cooler or heat exchanger on the rear passenger side. By 2015 and the California T the gearbox was improved and to my knowledge none of the improved DCT 2015 and up suffered from failed speed sensors. Then other regular Ferrari issues that have plagued the brand are sticky buttons, leather shrinkage and intermittent electrical gremlins, especially if you have a battery on its way out. However if you find a car that’s had it’s issues sorted the only thing you really have to worry about are the engine mounts (inspect during annual service or if you detect vibration at idle) leather shrinkage and sticky buttons. Also expect a high price for brake pads and rotors but with a caveat being Carbon Ceramic brakes last a lot longer then steel, and assuming moderate spirited driving should last a very long time, less with track use. Also with the introduction of the DCT you now no longer have clutch replacement costs, as apparently the DCT is supposed to last the life of the car. Though I have it on good authority that even though the DCT fluid is supposed to be lifetime owners do change it, and many owners recommend it. So, for a Ferrari, basically everything 2010 and up require far far less maintenance making them far more reliable but have some very expensive parts should they fail. So I’m short it’s still a good idea to keep a maintenance fund, budget, or Ferrari new power warranty.
😲 Unreal damage! Great video with the repair and oil change. I like it when you bring in other regional business that provide services. Great job guys!
I really just love your channel- you guys have interesting personas and it's so obvious you are having fun. I'm happy to see your business grow. Continued luck.
So sorry to see the end of the video Dan, hopefully everyone is ok, there is adequate insurance and maybe an opportunity to generate some content with the California still. Hoping you get a break.
Hey does that diagnosis computer speak to the parking add ECU I have tried the TEXA but doesn’t speak to that and I have a parking sensor out but don’t know what one 🙄
I had it re-dyed once, it's pretty cheap. But it wears off faster than the original dye. Eventually you have to replace the bolsters which is not cheap.
Yea, last week really sucked for you guys. And lots of it too! I feel for you knowing how it feels when shit happens. But that's a part of growing up...
Dan -- I understand the business model such as for the Gallardo, where you do significant work to the car to increase its value and then sell for a profit. But I don't understand the case with the Cali...you bought it from a dealer, presumably at/very near market value, and then did very minimal work that can't affect the value very much. So how do you intend to sell for a profit?
@@normalguysupercar OK, my bad...I misheard "from" when you had said "for" (and I did catch the friend reference, and was confused regarding the source -- the discussion around 9:21 made it sound like your friend had recently purchased the car from a dealership, so I thought he may have quickly decided he didn't like the car and wanted to sell it). In any case, the same concept applies (unless your friend is consigning the car through you) -- unless you bought it at below market value from your friend, how do you intend to make a profit? And if your friend sold it at below market value...why?
@@Scott-rf5ux Obviously we're going to buy cars below market value. Why people would sell to us below market is the same as why they do trade ins to any dealership. It's simple. No fuss.
@@normalguysupercar Fair enough about people wanting a "no hassle" transaction. I do think that the model you're using with the Lambos could let you buy at market value (factoring in the car's condition) and still sell at a profit because I believe that the significant improvements you make to the cars will increase their market value more than it will cost you to do those improvements. At least that's how I hope that it works out for you guys :) btw, I had stopped the video a moment too soon when I originally watched, and I hadn't seen the damage. I'm glad it seems everyone is OK and I hope you guys end up whole financially, as well.
@@normalguysupercar If you replay the entire video again, possibly in few places i.e in the end of clip ,you will find them ,it's fraction of black blank screen of pause.. kinda
Dan, every time I watch your channel, the "mystic" of Ferrari diminishes just a little bit, one might think a Ferrari is a "car". LOL JK BTW: Any haters, I love Ferrari
You should use Liqui Moly oil in your cars. The regular formula has the additional benefit of MOS2. I use the Molygen version which also includes graphite and green dye for helping locate any oil leaks in first 1,500 miles. Yes - green oil. My car has 220k miles and changed every 5k miles.
I could cry seeing the end of this. That completely sucks and I’m sorry that happened to you. On a higher note…. Adam, your hair looks fine you sexy beast. 😈
yea as i said make sure you have extra UNDERINSURED ( as well as uninsured ) motorists coverage on all policies as IME many have only state minimum so in case of a claim , you can get all the extra $ in the UNDERINSURED portion of your policy . ! handy for loss of future value ? my bro was hit in a crosswalk and even as a pedestrian , he got extra $ fr his car UNDERINSURED policy ! when some idiot hit him !
Would have been nice of that lady to smash into your BEFORE you put fresh oil/filter in and fixed the leather. Hopefully the views pay for the oil at least. Glad no one was hurt, and fight with insurance for fair value!

Dan, will you guys be doing “Quick Change Oil Services” for Ferrari/Maseratis???
As in charging customers to do oil change services? Unlikely.
Woah! I was not expecting that!
Me either!
is the cali a more reliable car than the 430?? what are its common issues?
It's slightly more reliable in my opinion. Engine mounts are common failure points.

Still for sale or copart special ?
Well, we need to get the insurance figured out first...

We're still working on the insurance situation.
good morning, can you tell me what is the tightening torque of the bolts to drain the used engine oil? Ferrari California
You'll have to look it up in the service manual
what is the odb11 scanner you are using my foxwell wont allow oil change update

Yeah it's not bad at all
Was that oil in the engine 14k miles? Pure stoopidity if it was.
Uh, no? It was about 1 year old oil.
@@normalguysupercar Whew....no doubt I misinterpreted something. Lol...

I was only about 3-4 miles into the drive. :(
Man, what a weekend you guys had.
No kidding
What scanner did you use to reset the oil change settings?

I believe replaced
