The fake top air intakes have always been an eyesore for me. It’s so noticeable. Anywhere and everywhere in either a Porsche Boxster GTS 981 or an Alpina D4 Biturbo F32 👍 I don't want a supercar on my roadtrip, too much worries about finding suitable parking spots.
I got to Drive a Audi RS R8 with all the specs about 15 years ago for QEK Logistics (Upper Heyford). As I was just a short term agency Driver you can imagine my joy. The Thing had 50 miles on it. The only supercar I have driven. Was tempted not to give it back and just keep driving but I like not being in Jail to much.
We never 'needed' supercars. Sure back in the day, it was the only way to really go near race car performance on the road. Still, aside from that, people usually don't buy supercars for pure speed though that variable comes with a supercar. People mostly buy supercars due to the art, heritage, stye, quality a supercar offers. Good mentions of this would be a LaFerrari, Mclaren P1, Porsche 918, Lamborghini Miura, Mclaren F1 etc. Though people tune loads of cars such as the Toyota Supra, Lancer Evo etc (and us car guys really respect them) we never question a supercar when we see one on the streets. So there, that is why we never really necessarily needed supercars aside from back in the days for near race car performance. Peace. :D
Like all "leaps forward" in tech, the real question is not can we, it is should we? Do we lose something? Most certainly. Do we gain ease control and ability? Obviously we do. Where is the true crux of elation? Re-runs of "Who's the Boss" for me.
Proper honest review and agree with everything you said; I have a pre facelift Gen 2 V10 Spyder and had the opportunity of driving the facelift version recently and was disappointed it was noticeably quieter (because of the dreaded particulate filter). Also, they’ve removed the pops, bangs and crackles (puerile I know!). The B&O sound system should be better, but does sound better if you turn down the surround nonsense, but no where near as good as say HK stereo in an M4. Anyway, great review and liked the new format with the summary/debate at the end. Keep making great videos.👍🏻
There are many places more exotic, that would surely make awesome road trips. But with what I know of places I've actually been blessed enough to visit, a trip through the American West, starting in Montana, heading west to the Pacific Northwest, and then a meandering path southbound to San Diego zigzagging between the coastal rainforest, the inland deserts, and the mountain ranges of the Sierra Nevada, well, there are better roads, taller mountains, and more scenic beaches, but there isn't a route that will keep you saturated in great examples for thousands of miles that would rival that. And you will always have a good place to stay and kind people along the way, if my experience is any indicator.
That does sound dreamy. Though my own information is suggestive that much of what made the route & manner of journeying along it so wonderful is disappearing or gone. The extraordinary degree of authoritarianism that’s descended upon pretty much all of The West feels to me like an undeclared coup d’etat. For the first time in my 64 years, I’m frightened of my government and those of most countries I’ve visited in the last four years. I’m not in the slightest concerned about my health. It’s really good & I disregard government’s insistence that my health is their responsibility as well as a right. Everywhere I look in the West, there is an increasingly obvious, yet undisguised, war on the motorist, both cars and motorcycles. People vary, as they always have. Like you, my long run experience of interacting with my fellow humans has been overwhelmingly a positive one. I have the impression, more obvious recently than four years ago, that very many people are preoccupied, anxious and unwell. I hope you got to make your dream road trip!
I thought it would have been nice if you had dried the door card you had allowed to get wet., Tearing the ribbons out of a piece of art was really thoughtful of you.. GN
As an Australian there's pretty much no such thing as an interesting destination even remotely close to you, regardless of where you live. My ideal road trip is Adelaide to Sydney, plenty of long open stretches of road ;) gets you away from the parents. Line up a playlist of car karaoke and bring enough mates to rotate driving.

As a Lotus fan, would love to know if you enjoyed the experience more in an R8 than you would have in your 400?
Lotus seems a bit cramped for a long distance road grip so i'd imagine still the r8
@@Will_M600 Although it's softer than a 400, my Evora I feel is almost perfect for long journeys.
The Lotus cars tend to excel for giving you driving pleasure without having to push the absolute limits. The Audi R8 cabin does look excellent though and looks to be a very nice place to be.
@@ephancock you must be shorter and less fat than me then i struggle to get in
The Evora would have been more fun in the twisty bits. Less fun on the long journey.
Nice BWM shirt! I'm sure Audi appreciated that one :-D
It's got a samsung tab s6 cover interior. They take a bunch of tab s6 covers and make an interior?
Hoping to do the 500 mile round Scotland trip when I retire, being a keen photographer. Aiming to get an Evora to do it in....
A petrol particulate filter? What's the point in that?
Let's the car pass new emissions regs
I got that, Jay, but it seems weird that there'd be any significant particulates from burning gasoline
@@jamesengland7461 my understanding is they are basically like an extra cat
For me woz a tr4 and then a TVR - the roof has to come off!! The Bristol had a 9 mpg problem!
Fave road trip? 1.The other half. 2.A big engined Mercedes SL from 70's/80's. 3. Across Europe then down to the southern tip of Italy, then hop, skip and jump from Sicily to Sardinia and then onto Corsica before taking the last ferry back to Genoa. From there, Monaco, Nice and Cannes before taking off up into the Alps and back to the UK :-)
Epic roadtrip?
3 weeks, over 5000km from Southern France to the far North of Scotland wild camping. Four blokes in a VW T4 California. Total cost 1700€uros (four people, ferry crossing, all fuel and food, no accomodation cost apart from one night on a campsite). It was a blast...
And before anyone says but what about the car?
It might not be a supercar, but I can cook, eat, sleep and crap in mine 😉. Can you say the same? There's a fridge for the beers too 😁
Edit: great minds think alike for the destination
I literally thought the original r8 was a movie car just for iron man, never thought it was real, always wondered how those blades made it to production but so many cool concept features have been axed
I agree with you that NO super car should be black. They all should have colour
Wow, magic video. I want an R8 now and a trip up north 😎
A Clio 182 and trip up North are great. So many roads on the way up to Scotland, the Peak District, Yorkshire and the Pennines etc.
My first choice for £100k would of been a 911 - but reality this is a better proposition. Another fab video.
Jay’s the type of guy to road trip an Audi in a Beamer shirt.
Drove one on a track day recently, was my favourite car of the day and I put down my best time in it.
Quick question: if you had to do the same trip again - would you take the R8 , or the yellow Lotus Evora that you used to own?
Tough call. They both have advantages and disadvantages, the Lotus would have been more fun in the twisties but the R8 was great for the long haul
Scotland, particularly the west coast, is wonderful to drive in and through. When my family no longer live there, I will return much more often.
Haha its a big place unlikely to bump into them oop the highlands.
Bmw want £1800 dpf filter for a 08 plate x6 3.0 td with 100 k on clock with out fitting god knows how much to fit it ,?? Dont need to be that price,,,!
DPF delete with eco remap, cheaper
Not sure about the UK but some countries only perform a visual inspection on the DPF so you could get it removed for much less? Investigate to see if you can as it gives greater mpg and greater power.
Avoid BMW main dealers. They arnt worth the money .
You should go down the removal route mate, costs alot less and has lots of benifits + added power
Diesels are a piece of shit. Scrap it and get a real motor.
18:55 EU why?? take a listen guys
It sounds like something is just chocking the engine :(
Rami Aljlilati yes, it’s the Commies from the EU
The sound regulations I don’t understand but I understand emission ones
Nothing boring about it! Brilliant cars! Really nice idea to film your walk around with that great bus in the background, the colors really kind of work out. “As you can see here, just under this...small river....”😂😂😂😂
An excellent critique of the car; another terrific video. Love the conclusion discussion.
Anywhere and everywhere in either a Porsche Boxster GTS 981 or an Alpina D4 Biturbo F32 👍 I don't want a supercar on my roadtrip, too much worries about finding suitable parking spots.
I know the car was not good but nice you had a trip away with your boyfriend.
I don’t know why someone would call a 600 hp awd v10 powered car “boring”, these types of people are also driving Ford Fiestas
Fantastic video James, properly epic intro 👌
Really loving your videos keep up the good work man.
How about a early and current Audi TT comparison test...would love that JayEmm
Awesome engine but still think they look like 2 cars joined together
Oh dear, a BMW shirt in an Audi 🙈….. The Scottish roads are a blast though, great video 👍
you got 27 mpg in an r8 v10 and 30 mpg in a kia optima 1.6 diesel 7 speed dual clutch. how?
need? no, never have
want? yes

When did you go back and fetch him ?
That’s what I thought.
Madlad reviewing an Audi in a BMW shirt
I'm sorry I think you're wrong, A great road trip does need 3 things but it's not the destination that matters but the journey.
was this the NC500 route?
I did it in my e55 and it was pretty epic
Helsinki to Heraklion in a Forester XT with a GT3076R kit. Epic!
Best review you’ve done this far 👍
Honest and objective review guys 👍
The R8 sounds as if you got a similar mpg as my Astra GTC VXR (2.0L Turbo std) would mid -high 20's depending on the right foot! Great vid, lovin your channel thx.
How’s your mates Exige 430? No update for a while.
Man it sounds like you been having a really bad day here 1/3 in. Everything sucks? Loud start up? That's a good thing to me. I'd want to hear that engine roar as it comes to life for example
