    In this episode, Fully Charged's East Asian correspondent, Elliot Richards, took the opportunity to take Baojun's bizarre-looking E300 out on the roads around Shanghai. Beyond its initial appearance the driving experience and the technology is more feature-rich than we might have expected for a car that costs as little as $9,700. The E300 does have its shortcomings of course and the braking in particular came in for sharp criticism. When it comes to core statistics the Baojun E300 Plus has a 31.9kWh battery, an NEDC range of 190 miles - not unrealistic when city-only driving - and can be fully charged from empty in one hour.

      I think it's more of a mix - the tablet makes a *lot* of sense for those things you almost never use, and which you set once and never touch again, or which you don't need to adjust whilst driving.... not to mention making it easier to add additional controls via updates, etc.
      For me, a having a couple of manual controls for the aircon (temp, fan speed, and an old-fashioned rotary dial for where to direct it), and a volume knob (with press-to-mute) is probably sufficient.... ok - and *options* for lights, indicators, wipers (although leaving lights and wipers in auto would probably be the default)

    Almost 300 km actual city range from 32 kWh is great, for a city car. It takes time to go almost 300 km in dense city traffic, in most cities and daytime probably 10-20 hours in traffic from a full charge. And the moderate consumption makes it easy to charge. Even if you drive 8 hours a day, in daytime city traffic, charging the rest of the time with only 6 amp 230V outlet should be enough.

    I'ts kind of amazing to see the range and variety of EV's coming out of China, or should I say comint out IN China? The big question I have is will any of these cars make it to Europe, and how much more expensive will they be once they land over here? The pricing looks fine for what you get, but from experience, once they hit the showroom floor in Sweden, where I live, price usually skyrockets, and it suddenly costs like a premium brand petrol car...

  • @telocity
    @telocity 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    HEY FULLY CHARGED! I have enjoyed watching FullyCharged from the start and one of those reasons was the pursuit of facts not just hopeful future predictions. To that end there is a need to start asking the very important question as to what options there are at the cars end of life. That was my great disappointment with the Mitsubishi I-miev, no reasonable replacement of battery or actually any part of the vehicle. Had a accident (was hit in the back by senior citizen who mistook gas pedal for brake while in a drive thru for fast food restaurant) and they totaled the car because they couldn't get parts. Which was good for me as the battery was already down to 10kW from the original 16 (2010 model) and replacement was a quoted $18,000 US dollars for battery. So ridiculous repair costs. So knowing what to expect at end of life is especially important for smaller vehicles who will notice the shorter distance available when battery degrade and need some option for replacement/upgrade. Going from 80 mile range to 60 is way more noticeable then from 250 miles to 200 as an example and if there is a planned ability to upgrade to newer battery systems in future or not, this would be good to know.
    Also GM was the first to mass-produce electric vehicles with the EV-1 back in the 1990s. So popular in fact EV-1s sparked protests in the street by owners when GM recalled them all and destroyed them. GM claimed lack of interest even though there was a waiting list of people wanting to lease (GM refused to sell the the electric vehicles).

    Great stuff. Definitely a condender for a city car if it comes to the UK. Would like to have seen the space with the rear seat folded down. I hope they can fix it because it's basically a very reasonable basic car, and I'd seriously consider buying it but for the...you know, brakes. TWO SUGGESTIONS: (1) Hard to gauge interior space without knowing your height. Please remind us. (2) I don't think I'm the only one who'd like to know of plans and agenda for bringing these beauties to the EU. Could you talk a little bit about local availability? They are relatively cheap, most of which do not exceed RMB 20,000 (US$3,000). Such as videos are relatively advanced small electric vehicles, but they are also very cheap, most of which do not exceed RMB 50,000 (USD 7,500)...You can hardly imagine the penetration rate of electric cars and electric motorcycles (or electric bicycles) in China. Very interesting, would like to know what the charging infrastructure is like in China, as it’s one of the biggest gripes here in the uk, and many believe its design to hold back the up take of EV’s, me included. Take one example, I tried to get a charge at a genie charger, was already a customer from a year ago, could not remember my login details, could not get the system to change it, it was raining, and I ended up calling them, twice because the first attempt failed to remain connected, after explaining what I was trying to do, and then being asked for the charger number, and she pointed out the charger is switched off and awaiting repair. This took all of 20 min of my time, never to get back, and it’s right next to a petrol station, just to rub salt in to an already very sore wound.
