PSA: If you put your gun away dry, it will rust. Today, Justin walks us through how to remove rust spots on a blued 1911 slide-check it out! #TopicTuesday
The Colt bluing is actually really nice quality. I have a two tone Colt 1911 with a stainless frame and blued slide. I had rust around the ejection port of the blued slide and I did the same oil brass brush treatment. The rust came right off and it looks brand new again!
Will this work on the stainless finish on the sandblasted areas? Edit: Yes it does! Just tried it out. Kinda nerve wracking trying it. But it paid off :)
Will this procedure work if there is more than just a little rust. My 1911 was stored in one of those type cases and I just dug it out today to see a lot of rust on the slide. I would like to dissemble it to clean it but I don't want to damage anything doing that. I admit that this is all my fault, should have put it in a different case, but didn't know better. I carried a 1911 in Vietnam as a radioman, so there's sentimental connections to it (no, the USG wouldn't have allowed me to bring that one home!).
Hi Colt How would you handle/ remove the same amount of rust from a “midnight Blue”. 4” Colt Python barrel? Thanks. This was a very instructive video! RSO
Interesting that Colt's foam case material will "retain moister" and maybe cause rusting. Now, I'll keep an eye on mine. Using a plastic "tooth-brush" style brass brush eliminates the worry for dragging the steel twist brush along the slide while brushing. Great vid, usual, learned much. Ty.
I saw in a different video that you should go with the direction of the surface machining. If you look at where he worked, you can see the machining going across the other way... 3:34

Can that method be used to remove rust on a blued slide? The brushed part not the sand blasted part
Does the same principle apply to a ruger p90?

All foam cases, not just Colt's. These cases are for shipping/transport not storage.
Can you push these to sold in California please!
Thank you ! 👍
Is WT-40 advisable to remove gun rusts too?

Long live the rampant Colt!!!

I find that hard to believe that doesn’t scratch.
I did this on my M&P and it removed the finish.
