Neha maam we can come to Sankri via Shimla also. From Delhi to Chandigarh -Shimla -Theog-KotkhaiJubbal-Hatkoti-Tuni-Mori-Netwar-Sankri. But this is a longer route. 80-85 kms extra than the UK route., and the journey is on a beautiful highway ( 100 kms ).from Shimla to Hatkoti. Having beautiful pine forests, apple orchards beautiful villages temples snow covered peaks from Kharapathar and the Giri and pabbar river etc etc.
Thank you for the very detailed description. The base camp of Har Ki Dun is not anymore Sankri but Kotgaon. Do you have any protip on how to reach Kotgaon? Thank you.
Hi, There is a direct bus from Dehradun Railway Station to Jakhol. It leaves at 7 am. The cost per ticket is Rs 400/-. Get down at Motwar. Kotgaon is about 3 km away from Motwar and is not on the same route as Sankri. Take a shared taxi from Motwar to Kotgaon. There are private buses that leave from outside Dehradun Railway Station 6:30-7:30 AM to Sankri as well. Alternatively, there is a trekking route from Motwar to Kotgaon base camp. This is a well-marked 1 km long trail but is a steep ascent. It may become difficult if you have more luggage. If you are reaching Dehradun late, you can take a bus to Purola/Naugaon and then a private cab to Motwar
Thanks Neha. Long time ago, while in हर की दून trek, there used to be camps named Dhaundha, Talhauti and Lekha thatch after juda talao. Are these places of camping 🏕 still in place?
Nice and very informative video. If we go by our on car to Taluka can we get a safe parking place for our car? How many days it takes to complete the track ??
I along with two friends, all are above 63 years want to trek Har ki doon in the month of March, 2023. We want to trek of our own. PL advice regarding guide and lodging. Awaiting a reply. Thanks.
Hello Biplab sir, our DIY department helps people do a trek on their own. You can go to our DIY page and fill a form. We’ll guide you further - indiahikes.com/diy-treks-page
Hey Swati, I'm writing a book based on trekking but I have never been to one, so I'm researching on it but TH-cam have been no help to me. Could you recommend different resources to read from or videos to watch offcourse I'll watch yours, I mainly want to know *what kind of activities happen on a trek beside hiking*
You can park the bike at Taluka. But we wouldn't recommend so much stress before doing a high altitude trek. The winds on the ride are cold and it takes a toll on you. The drive is a long one too, around 9-10 hours long on dangerous roads.
Hi Sangita I understand that safety can be a concern. Regardless of where you are staying, it is important to be aware and careful. I would recommend Hotel Drona. It is near the railway station and the Indiahikes pick up point. You can also check out our recommendations here indiahikes.com/har-ki-dun/#reaching-the-basecamp in the section - Planning your hotel booking.
You will need to carry your trek gear with you Suvarna. Check out the things you need to carry on a trek here: indiahikes.com/har-ki-dun/#what-to-take If you plan to travel further before or after your trek, you have the opportunity to drop your luggage at the base camp for the duration of the trek. At the end of the trek, the cloak room belongings can be picked up at the base camp on your return.
It would be better if State Govt's open or they should encourage local's to open tea houses in the trek routes, as has been done in Nepal. It would add to the local's income. There are hundred's of trek , imagine how much prosperity in could bring to people who live in moutains.
Hey, first off all I can't thank you enough for this video, this video helped me to gather the necessary info, especially the fairs and timings for local vehicles. One question, as I'm planning for a trek to Har Ki Doon-Ruinsara Tal(also suggested by IndiaHike CEO Arjun), is there any rules to enter Uttarakhand other than carrying the Cov19 report?
It is definitely a bucketlist Aditya. In case you have not already watched our other videos on Har Ki Dun, check these out: th-cam.com/video/OkKDaDM7LJ0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/WV3L8AF8-BY/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/XsRy7s9vbJA/w-d-xo.html
Hi Animesh You can take the permission from Sankri Forest Office. When you get down at the market, take a right, in about 100m, there is a checkpost. You will be able to get the permission receipts from there. If you are trekking on your own permissions will cost you no more than Rs 150 per day. If you are coming with Indiahikes, we take care of permissions :)

Is it necessary to take guide from sankri to har ki dun?
no, taking a guide is not necessary but you have to take a permit from Govind Natural Reserve which costs around Rs. 300
