I've got an older Carvin that I LOVE! But after watching that instagram of Jeff calling out that customer for what OBVIOUSLY was done wrong in the shop, I'm not gonna buy a Kiesel. Dang! that fretboard is as light as the unfinished one on my squire bullet tele!

I love my 3 Kiesels but I haven’t been at all impressed with their customer service.
Edit to add: wow, i just saw the video of Jeff excoriating the customer and in my opinion it’s *much* worse than it’s made out to be in this video. My interests have been somewhat drifting away from Kiesel for a while anyway but I was still planning on having them build me a “strat” in the not so distant future. That won’t be happening now that I’ve seen and heard how the big boss man feels about his “family”.

Frank Bama he’s not the only one that flips out on their customers. Re reverb and eBay etc. Just because someone has 5 star feedback on reverb means nothing. Check all their feedback and you may be surprised every so often there’s a similar issue of some kind of berating someone over nothing. Read all feedback. I keep in mind some have serious “issues” they’re hiding. I don’t mean Jeff I don’t know him. But there’s some real winners out there.

Kudos for commenting on the Kiesel abuse.
I think he should have refunded the customer, as the guitar is ruined for the guy. Nobody wants a guitar with such bad feeling related to it.
Joe Bonamassa likes to buy guitars with a good back story. The Kiesel guitar has a back story of the buyer being publicly belittled online. I doubt the guy will ever play it.

I ordered a Positive Grid Spark on 12/28. I have received numerous emails from them assuring that they are working night and day to fulfill all of their orders, while explaining that shipping will be delayed again. About 2 weeks ago, I saw a new review on TH-cam of the amp, apparently from someone who had not ordered one. Now they have reached out to you to send you one? There are many, many reviews on TH-cam already. I find it very troubling that they are even considering sending one to you before they send me the one that I paid for 4 months ago.

Re: the Kiesel thing. His apology seemed totally hollow & insincere to me. He tried to use anxiety as an excuse & still insisted he was technically 'right' about the fretboard. Jeff may very well have anxiety, but the berating/belittling another person (along with the muscle flexing) is NOT how anxiety (fear) manifests. Gotta disagree with Phillip here. This is not an isolated incident type thing, give the guy a chance, he tried to do right & will learn & change from this. It's a long term pattern of behavior, a man with a huge ego/huberus which folks have been talking about for years who clearly views his customers, employees & competitors as lesser than. He just so happened to get caught & had KDH not called him out & point out the guy was a long time devoted customer (not that should even matter), nothing would've been done to make things right. And what about all the other customers that have been stuck with flawed guitars for years because of option 50? To me, his 'apology' was nothing more than damage control for the company left to him by his father. Many feel he offered a sincere apology, & while I disagree, I do respect that opinion. I know many players love their Kiesels & I'd been considering one for a while. I like the idea of an American made product & supporting our workers. I never pulled the trigger because of all the mixed reviews about their CS. After seeing this debacle, I will never purchase Kiesel.

When you turn the level up with studio monitors or through a power cab it feels pretty real to me and sounds a lot better. My 2 cents on the Kemper and Axe FX thing (bear in mind, in my experience both units are sonically at par with each other, there is truly no difference in the feel and quality of tone that both Kemper and Axe Fx have to offer): if tweakability is what you want, the Axe FX will do it much better than the Kemper. If you want a particular sound that is great straight off the bat, get a Kemper. Now, why did I buy the Axe FX over the Kemper? Because I want to design my own sound and have it suit MY guitars, MY hands, MY listening environment. The drawback with the Kemper is you either need to have the real amps to "capture" the profile you need or rely on profiles made by others which they may have made for a particular sound/situation/context. Think of it like this: if the Kemper is a great high definition photograph of a rig, then the Axe FX is like a VR simulation of gear. So then, which one should YOU go for? Well, not everybody wants to or is so inclined as to go around exploring and tweaking things in the wild, especially when the possibilities are endless. So if tweaking is not your thing, then Kemper. If you want full control, Axe FX.

Phil is spot on with the Kemper / Axe FX discussion. They sound great but they do not “feel” like a tube amp. Do this experiment. Palm mute fretted individual notes or mute and rake notes on the unwound G, B, E strings. On a real amp there is a smoothie sponginess to the response. On ANY digital unit it has a brittle quality to it with a bit of latency. There is nothing you can do to dial this out. I have used a Kemper for 5 years. I only use it because it is convenient, versatile and light weight and “sounds” good but it doesn’t “feel” and respond like a tube amp to me.

Yeah, I tried the Helix native demo for a week, and I managed to do jack shit with it. Whatever I did, it never sounded good. I started tweeking the presets, but that lead nowhere either. I would have needed weeks to dial in sounds that were good and realistic, at least. I just wasn't able to do that in a week. I want to play, and if I were a professional, I would have the time to put in tweeking. It can't be done with a regular job.

I saw the Jeff Kiesel rant and the guy only leads you to believe that if your guitar arrives with an issue, you will have to pay for it plus the $200 restocking fee. Sorry that's not how you treat a customer who has supported you with purchasing over 25 guitars from you. You have to give a shit about the happiness of the customer no matter what and Phil is being very nice about the subject. His apology only stems from the fact that he realized he made a critical mistake that could be a detriment to his business and not because it's authentic. Only guitar players know how frustrating it is to receive a guitar that has issues especially if it was an expensive purchase and I would like to think that a company like Kiesel could understand that. Send the guy a FREE GUITAR JEFF if you want to do the right thing and make sure future guitars arrive as the customer ordered it and you can avoid these problems. Disappointing as I was going to order a Kiesel in the future but now i know better.

Phil, your comment on the Helix has been mine for every multi-FX unit I have owned by Line 6. That is the PODxtLive and the HDX5000. Their presets, to me, were absolutely useless. And I would attempt to create my own tones using their software interface. That would almost always fail to load into the unit. Because Line 6 support was not helpful for me, I dumped anything that was Line 6 and went with the HeadRush.
I am not sure why you have not given this unit a review. The Headrush really is very easy to use from its large screen display so I don't need to carry a separate device to see what I am editing because the damn onboard screen is so tiny to its ready to go presets. I seldomly had to make any major changes from their presets. They are pretty much a drag and drop. That is because each effect has several useful options to choose from. And you can edit on the fly while in the song. You should check it out.

I bought an Axe Fx 3 four months ago. It is plainly overkill for my situation; mildly intimidating. That said, it's been incredible. It's effectively an entire studio, countless amps and hundreds of effects crammed in a single 3U rack space. Tons of tweakability. Almost too much, but it works for recording musicians. So, be it. The adjustable parameters on each amp model are myriad. Literally dozens. The presets are outstanding. Very inspiring. If you can afford it, I recommend. The Line 6 Powercab 212 Plus has been great too. Looks and sounds great.
The one drawback is the purchase of peripherals I hadn't considered. The rack case to protect it, better headphones, an FRFR cab (can't just play into headphones all the time). In the end I also wound up getting a new PC, as well. Very pricey affair. The wife has been understanding, thankfully.

Regarding the Helix, from a longtime Line 6 user. Everything I've used from the POD HD series onward, have terrible presets. Don't waste your time and get yourself agitated. Instead, take a little time and download the computer editor, hook up your Helix and your computer and download some good, free presets from the Line 6 Custom Tone forum with your computer. Drag them into the editor and this is where the real fun and satisfaction begins. Don't worry about learning a bunch of stuff. Get some good sounds and have fun. The learning can come later (or not) after you've had a bunch of fun with it. I'd also highly recommend working with the computer editor. It's much easier on the eyes and the back!
If I were the king of LIne 6, I would make the built in presets sound and behave much more like a simple, good tube amp with a good, small pedal board for a satisfying initial experience that is as familiar as possible. Skip the weird crap.

Phil, yes, I absolutely think you should put tbe Bias gear through a very thorough exploration and evaluation. Give it some time, go back to your Helix for a while, go to the Bias site and download some user created tones that sound interesting, even ask your Patreons if they have tones that they love for that unit.
I'd be curious to know what your reactions to it would be.

With all due respect, saying the Kemper and AxeFX etc. are the same modelling tech only adds to the confusion. It's like saying solid state and tube is the same, because both are analogue. Let me explain: The Kemper uses profiling, as I understand more like an IR-tech to "copy" the sound of an amp. It is essentially a sampler. AxeFX and others are modellers. They are written computer code to model the sound and behavior of an amp. So, more like a synthesizer. Now what you prefer that is up to you. I am just saying one thing - every guitar player in my studio, who was convinced the Kemper does not sound or feel like an amp, was not able to tell the difference between one of my amps into a 2x12 cab or the profile of the same amp in to the 2x12. To me, that says it all. In a blind test most likely you will fail if (!) the profile is a good profile. And if (!) the Kemper is setup correctly. Everything else is your personal taste - so if you like modellers and their, mmh, more modern sound, go for it. Personaly, I only get inspired by my amps or good Kemper profiles. But what do I know? :-)

Kiesel makes nice guitars! That is a fact! I saw the original video with Jeff, and it’s amazing how the trolls on the internet are trying to turn it into something ridiculous. There is no controversy! Jeff (who I’m not a big fan of) simply stated facts as it pertained to treating wood. What he said is true. They won’t all look the same. Nor should you want them to. It’s just the nature of wood. Jeff and Kiesel work with enough wood to know what they are doing. I don’t recall anyone other than the trolls calling it a crappy guitar. The roasted maple wasn’t as dark as the customer hoped. Kiesel makes very specialized guitars. They try to make the picture the customer has in his head a reality. That’s a dangerous task to take on, and it won’t always end perfect. Years ago, I picked a bunch of random options and finally ordered a Carvin. I had no clue what I was getting. It took 3 months, and I almost cancelled the order, after someone from Carvin called and told me they hadn’t built it yet. (I received it a couple days later??). When I opened that case, my jaw dropped. It was beautiful! To this day, it’s one of my favorite guitars. Feels great, sounds great. Is it perfect? Probably not. Do I care? Hell no! It’s actually got someone’s fingerprint in the finish! When I first saw that, I wanted to stick my foot up somebody’s ass. But, after all these years, I think it’s kinda cool that someone that helped craft this thing autographed it for me. The point is that I’m quite sure that the guitar the customer received was a keeper. Is he willing to give up everything that came out right just to try to duplicate it with a slightly darker neck? And how many times has this happened to Kiesel? Probably every day! Trying to recreate a picture in someone’s mind is a losing proposition. Where do you think their in stock guitars come from? If the customer is truly unhappy, Kiesel should at least offer to make another, with the caveat that it can’t come out the same in every other aspect. Or maybe just refund the roasted neck charge. Either way, I have no doubt, whoever ends up owning the original guitar will be happy in the long run. I certainly am, and I fully intend to buy another Kiesel someday, and a bunch of silly little trolls won’t be stopping that!

You seem to not understand what a troll is. Jeff seems like he's had a little too much meth in his lifetime. I don't know if he has or not, but that's how he carries himself; like a strung out, indignant, petulant drug addict.
