The all-out version would be 1. *Variation* would take strong cues from ESO housing. * tons of premade houses would exist, and it'd be easy for developers to add new ones (and each expansion would add several) * you can buy them _prefurnished_ or totally customize them from empty rooms * customization wouldn't just be placing predefined things (tables) but also art (like the paintings mentioned in this vid, but also potentially player books/journals and music * unlocking those items would be done by a mix of buying, crafting, achievements, and more. (WIth the obvious example in their teaser being: defeat Onyxia -> get head -> mount it above the hearth) * "music" would be a new system that both (A) lets you jukebox the game's full soundtrack but also (B) lets you import a MIDI (or similar text file) which lets you play custom songs. This music functionality would also exist everywhere else in the game (with options to both (a) right-click-mute-music on an individual character but also (b) globally mute Player Music). The instruments would obviously be ones that felt appropriate to WOW"s fantasy world. 2. *Instancing* is a huge concern, but given a recent dev interview it sounds like they're aware. * instancing _would_ be an issue if the functionality of the house makes me stay there all the time, so that's an argument for less functional parts of the house * however if it's not functional at all, I simply won't care and so that's an argument to do functionality where I can access it _outside_ the house (so imagine full buttons for garrison building, crafting, everything that you can use from anywhere in the world) * FFXIV's neighborhood system is a good way of having housing be instanced but also shared by several players (who share the same neighborhood, each having a house in that neighborhood). * this vid's suggestion of a Guild Neighborhood takes that a step further! (I also think there's still room for Guild Halls to be a physical place that's a 'larger player house' but has shared controls for customization and that'd be really fun and social.) 3. *Warband* characters showing there is a fantastic idea, and the best way to do it is for characters to have many attributes (their race; their class; their professions; etc) and attributes are able to control how those characters behave inside the house. The mage creates ice sculptures or studies books. Your leatherworker is in the workshop room. With Drachthyr your hearth's fire runs out, so they walk over with a fresh log and breathe flame to start a new one. So then because each character would have quite a lot of different activities, they should naturally switch activities in a pace that feels right (ie they eat a meal, they actually sit down a while, finish it, clean up, and then move on to a new activity, and all that takes at least a full minute, maybe more).
Dude I love all the thoughts in this comment! Great suggestions. I do think the importable music is probably not something we'll see but I'm not against it lol
They way I would like player housing would be you pick a zone in the game and you can basically make your own phase of it. You click a button to activate or deactivate it that way you could seemlessly walk/fly into the zone. Then you could place whatever assets you want any way you want. If you wanna make 14 stacked upside down goldshire inns on top of each other go for it. If assets are unlocked or purchased with gold that’s fine but I think 90% of the in game assets should be usable and not limited to a small pool
With this guilds could basically build towns for their guild in zones for their guilds or friends could have their own neighborhood by one person just building it and then being in a group with them. Would be REALLY good for roleplay too
@@erradicgaming I think it existing within a zone with its npcs would help it feel alive. It think it’s really hard to have housing exist in a player controlled zone like a neighborhood because I wouldn’t wanna live right by someone who wants to build an eyesore of a base because they think it’s funny

I like the idea of being able to see other guild neighbor's houses. That's a really cool idea.
I hope there's some sort of social aspect to it.

The only issue I have with the phase part of your idea is I want the housing to feel alive

I would LOVE to see my alts in housing. A kitchen option for my cooks. Various themes of wall and floor decor. I want my Genshin teapot in my wow.
I can't wait to hear more about this feature.
garissons were not player housing. they were an expansion feature. it wasnt meant to be house even from their interviews.
I mean they're saying that now. Is that really how they felt when it was released?
Eight times the size of that building is a wildly unrealistic expectation.
Yea I agree. That's why I went back on it
They aren’t going to add player housing. Wow can’t handle that lol. Only a few games ever got it right and that’s a stretch
But they literally are 👀👀
They've announced it, pal. You're a bit out of the loop.
