Fish AI not all of us do. I’m 24 and love the 80’s-90’s style. Grew up reading all my dads old four wheeler magazines, Chrome rollbars, white wheels, big meaty Mickey Thompson’s and crazy paint. And not one stupid light bar endowed diesel in sight 😎
Go with Clifford! And being from the great state of Kentucky... you’re dressed in your Sunday best Ol’ Son! LoL love the videos you are living the dream.
I suggest, if I may, that you find a set of steelies or even better, the rims that Travis had on his 4x4 before he put the 35's. Those rims are classics
Hey Cliff that is a fine truck, and it has a T18 trans with a 6.32 First gear. I have one in my Jeep CJ almost never use first just start out in second and you’ll get used to third gear placement.
I've had 4 REAR wheels for a 70s 2wd Camper Special for years. The 2wd CS rear wheels were wider than the fronts! They're 16.5 x 9.75 and look AWESOME, but the tires are 40 yr old bias murders, and bald! And I dont wanna spring for new ones, which are harder to find. I've found many used ones at used tire shops, but never 4 that match.
the shifting if it swing side to side when it is in gear.there's pin that keeps it from swinging then it is wrone and needs replacing.sometimes they brake then it is real fun trying to shift
Just go to the junkyard and get 4 spare tires from 4 Ford F250s, 1996 or older. The factory spares are usually 245/75-16s, Firestones if I remember right. And many have spent decades under the truck, out of sunlight, unused! I get em from a scrapper for 50 bucks each. The stock, narrow steel wheels look great on old trucks.
I've never seen 45s, and90s made with a hammer before; that really is Kustom! You could probably sand blast the rims that came with it. They wouldn't look " as bad ". You could bolt on a piece of metal to keep you from going to reverse when trying to get third.
Cool. It looks like someone in the past changed the steering to front steer instead of rear steer? OR was the rear steer on a 2wd? You can adjust the drums by backing up and slamming the brakes, do this about three times. Some older cars/truck did not have self adjusting drums and that is the way you did it. I think the best wheels are off-white steelies with narrow semi-agressive tires, like a Armstrong or Norseman. 35's look out of place and that little power-steering will struggle "assisting" it.
The tie rod ends on my 63 F250 had almost that much play and it was a total death trap. It'll be a completely different truck when you get those replaced.
Those power rams are something else. We went through ours on our 64 galaxie. Really nice when you put sanderson headers on and the outlet is facing right towards that ram. Goofy ass setup I think, glad they don't make them like that anymore! I will say it is very powerfully assisted power steering though. Feel bad for the guy who did our exhaust, he had a lot of troubles making the system because of that.
I bought a 72 F250 at a towing auction for $125. They said it ran. It did, but it didnt steer! The front end was like yours, about 90 degrees of play in the steering, all the ball joints (2wd truck) wasted, and COAT HANGERS wrapped around them to keep the bars from falling out! I drove it 15 miles to home, at 10mph! SCARY! I've driven a lotta sketchy shit, but that was the worst! I shoulda looked underneath before I bid, but it was raining, LOL!
"Lets see if we can find 3rd" is the most old Ford sentence possible. I don't know what it is about pre 5 speed old fords, but every one I've ever driven has a third gear that requires an incredibly specific shifter position to find. Even the 4 speed in the 80s 6.9 diesels, 3rd is the hardest to find. I kept hitting the dead spot above reverse or grinding against 1st.
I would leave the rack on the back kind paint white from that era with some KC lights and put some nice steel wheels on it. Or cut it short so isn’t so tall. To me it matches the truck to well and if it were I were try to find some old et mag wheels that have that brush look to them. I would also try bring down a little more stock height.
It reminds me of when I first bought my ford pickup it had the rough leaky ram assist steering about 25 degrees of play in the steering and 3rd would grind and pop out of gear coasting down hills. It has disc brakes though, so never had an issue slowing down still have it and have fixed so much except for body I use it religiously as a work truck but still try to daily drive it.
You’d be better off removing the ram assist and just putting a drag link in there. Since your junkyards actually let you buy stuff you should pick up an open knuckle Dana 44 and a NP435 👍🏻
That's part of the fun of it learning how to drive vintage truck I have a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser it's an adventure every time you take it on the road . 😎
My 79 F250 4x4 had a granny-low 4 speed. In 1st gear, low range, with 4.10s, the damn thing would climb a tree, lol. Went about 1mph in that gear. First gear in the trans was 6.32 to 1, or something like that. Woulda made a good tractor, lol.
yep, dead giveaway is the distributor in the front, the 292 Y block it was in the rear, 352/360/390 etc can make decent power if your willing to build them up.
Don’t think the 4x4s ever got factory 390s either. It’s almost certainly out of a car, based on having a cast iron 4bbl intake and a vertical oil filter. Be interesting to know the story behind the swap!
Craig you should take a look at Hoonigans TH-cam channel Zac had gotten a K5 blazer and the wheels he threw look pretty good maybe you could do something like that to Clifford?
Done it for years on many vehicles, no problem. Earlier vehicles didnt have hub-centric wheels like they do now, they were lug centric. So the Ford car wheels wouldnt fit my Dodge, but my Dodge wheels would fit my Ford. Most aftermarket rims are lug centric too. Never had a problem.
Not a Dodge guy at all but I don't mind those 60's Dodge pick-em-up trucks. Always thought it'd just be an interesting learning experience building and using a 5.9 magnum V8 and old 360 hybrid to power one.
My 65 has a 300 inline six and a ZF 5 speed with the DANA 24.... also have a 78-79 High pinion disc brake front end. still looking for the right PS setup for it. The original Gemmer box is not gonna cut it. Great Videos!
Being in the oilfields ive gotten a lot of FR coveralls over the years from different companies ive worked for. I put on a pair every time i work on my vehicles or someone else's. Saves my clothes from looking like something a bum jams out with. Whats transmission is that? T18
Clifford, Everyone has a truck named tomater
I agree
James Workman Not me. Even tho my truck is faded red, I usually call it a p.o.s. when it acts up or won't run.
@@lilorbielilorbie2496 I had a p.o.s.t as well
Crusty post mid life crisis clifford
@@lilorbielilorbie2496 I watch another channel called parodox and he's currently restoring a 51 Dodge with a Cummins and he named it tomater
Glad to see how much you care in bringing the old Ford's back I am a die hard Ford owner since I was young now 63 and still love my fords
you should start in 2nd and only use the first for pulling loads.
What he said. You basically have a three speed with a granny for when your pulling or in rough 4x4 terrain.
Awesome crawling gear. Wouldn’t trade mine for anything.
@@hippielogger1090 so if i have a 66 3 spd rwd should i start in 2nd as well?
TrebleclefJames TV depends, if it’s a super low gear you can skip it, go ahead and try to start in second, you’ll know it if the truck don’t like it 😂
1st gear on those aren't syncronized, so it's tough to shift 1st to 2nd.
Day 3,000 and Craig still has the loudest fuel pump known to man lol
Cliff FORD
I love the roll bar, I have always loved roll bars on pickup trucks. I just wish they would come back in style, they look spectacular
Right? Kids now think light bars and 10k rims are the best thing since sliced bread
Me too. Planning to install one in my '72 F100 with four chrome halogen lights.
Go with Clifford! And being from the great state of Kentucky... you’re dressed in your Sunday best Ol’ Son! LoL love the videos you are living the dream.

White or black steel wagon wheels would be such an improvement and they are pretty cheap for new wheels.
He has said in a previous video about this truck that he intends on fitting steelies once he finds a decent set.
Neal Purdy white spoke steel wheels are my all time favorite on old trucks. It’s what’s on my 94 ford 👍
Don't toss that heat riser valve. You will probably never need it in California, but restorers will pay decent money for a good one.
Hey Cliff that is a fine truck, and it has a T18 trans with a 6.32 First gear. I have one in my Jeep CJ almost never use first just start out in second and you’ll get used to third gear placement.
What you talkin about? That exhaust is mint👌
We have a smaller car show in Yorba Linda every Wednesday. You should bring the 71 or the Galaxie up sometime!
Craig you need to get some boots to go with those over hauls 😂

Hydro rams only are good on big tire rigs that already have hydro boxs the ford setup is jenk like you said
That little exhaust piece you took off is a heat riser, I got a 68 caddy and mine went out a couple years ago but you'll be just as good without it
What happen to your tint on your windows
This video was made before that
How about calling it Thecraigkiller250. Because if you are going to die in a wreck it will definitely be at at the wheel of this thing!😂

Ya ain’t that some real purdy custom exhaust work
man you were fearless with them manifold bolts
i would've left them the way they were if that was an iowa truck.

Hello. If the coil is over heating and boiling the oil out, you need a resistor to keep this from happening. Just a small tip from an old ford guy.
The Granny first gear most people don’t even use. A friend had 4 trucks with the Ford Toploader. We would drive 2,3 than 4th
We have an old 59 f100 4x4
Man, that truck is sweet. Love the old fords. 👍👍 I'm subscribing!
Looks just like the truck in Chicago's Stay The Night video. Except it was blue. And 2wd. And does sweet jumps.
If you burnt up the coil make sure the resistor wire from the ignition is pink and only putting out 6 volts.
Clifford definitely

Sell this one and you will regret every minute of it keep it
'73 F250 4x4 390...no power steering...nicknamed 'The Punisher'. I even found the front tag for it on eBay.
The wheels actually looked pretty good, I would have gotten a spacer
FE 's were machined flat and sometimes had a heat shield but warped quickly
Quick tip add a holly fuel pressure regulator those edelbrock’s are susceptible to flooding and stumble if pressures fluctuate above 6psi...
You’d be better off removing the ram assist and just putting a drag link in there. Since your junkyards actually let you buy stuff you should pick up an open knuckle Dana 44 and a NP435 👍🏻
That is an "F-bomb" if I've ever seen one.
It’s real funky how those super duty wheels are so close yet so far away from a classic 8x6.5
That's part of the fun of it learning how to drive vintage truck I have a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser it's an adventure every time you take it on the road . 😎
That truck is the definition of Kustom
Very cool truck, great find.
I agree power steering rams do suck. They leak and they are sloppy. My '56 Buick handles its power steering through the box.
Yeah the ram on my 71 D100 was a leaky mess too. My other one had manual steering, and I converted it to manual brakes too. Simple is better.
Mike is awesome. Such a great dude.
Flowtech headers for that 390 will wake up
the thing is mater was a 55-57 chevy one ton...
The trucks didn't get FE engines until 1965
yep, dead giveaway is the distributor in the front, the 292 Y block it was in the rear, 352/360/390 etc can make decent power if your willing to build them up.

My 77 d100 transmission is just like that, you should only use 1st when pulling loads or for crawling
My 73 has the same transmission but my third gear is not like that and I have no power steering. I would name it Clifford the big red Ford. Or red
Craig you should take a look at Hoonigans TH-cam channel Zac had gotten a K5 blazer and the wheels he threw look pretty good maybe you could do something like that to Clifford?
How about a name of Crusty Rusty?
You should buy some wheel spacers and put the other tires on
Baiter- The Craig, she's rad. Put proper tires on steely's on her. She's MINT!
How bout the dodge on the right side is it for sale?
When you see a dip sign you gotta jump it Dukes of Hazzard style.
I would go with Big Bertha
will he ever crown vic swap the bumpside?
6:50, the hub hole on the rim is too big, putting the wheel studs in shear....
Craig, what station did they always have you on when you worked at litrle caesar's? I was a sheetouts boi
They have new adapter kits you can upgrade that front axle and steering linkage
I think you should get some of those craigers that are kind of steelie looking
Lol looks like your uncle used all your tread on those tires 🤣😂
All of your exhausts have worked pretty killer though, so you might as well and get that great FE sound
1:49, just look at "B" is for build...
Sweet truck !
I had been anything but a Ford it would have one you in! Keep on keep on keepin on !
I absolutely love the truck. Fits you like your red galaxie does. Certain cars just fit people and those cars fit you...BRUH
Maybe take all the bling wheels and roll bars off and soup it up with good looking oem?
Not a Dodge guy at all but I don't mind those 60's Dodge pick-em-up trucks. Always thought it'd just be an interesting learning experience building and using a 5.9 magnum V8 and old 360 hybrid to power one.
Clifford for sure
I like the way you think: 1/8 inch above the wear bars is “pretty good tread”. Three or four years left in those bad boys.
My 65 has a 300 inline six and a ZF 5 speed with the DANA 24.... also have a 78-79 High pinion disc brake front end. still looking for the right PS setup for it. The original Gemmer box is not gonna cut it. Great Videos!
A 300 with a zf-5 is a great combo! I love my 300, only thing I’d consider swapping it for is a 460 but gas doesn’t get any cheaper 😬
Craig’s friend: buys car
Craig: our car
What camera do you use to film? Nice video!
The new wheels look better. I love the classic look
When are you going to swap frames on your Ford 100
You should put 40 series Flowmaster on the exhaust pipe
Call it Zombie!
You really need a set of old school white steel wheels with poverty dog dish center caps wrapped with some tall/skinny mud terrain tires.
Have a '64 still working on it. Good luck fixing her up :-)
I have a 64 f250 2wd and a 4bt Cummins to replace the 292.
Being in the oilfields ive gotten a lot of FR coveralls over the years from different companies ive worked for. I put on a pair every time i work on my vehicles or someone else's. Saves my clothes from looking like something a bum jams out with.
Whats transmission is that? T18
That’s my guess judging by the era, but it’s also nearly 60 years old so it could have been swapped for something else 🤷♂️
Some Micky Tompson classic III’s would look sick on that larry
The Chrome rims looked good mocked up on the truck. Too bad they didn't fit.
congrats man! so nice truck!
What is the story on the Dakota
Dissin the D100, yet you got a 76 W100, which looks far more mint than my 76
Truck name
Clifford
Haha. “So much play in the steering” - after seeing that front end shit show.
Best channel on you tube
Awesome piece of equipment 🤘🤘
call it "Big Red"...I had a 64 f250 4x4 highboy I built in green and called him "The Hulk".
Yuup ! Clifford
Rim's look ok, wouldn't worry to much, they kinda grow on ya.
