Double clutch, once when you take it out of gear once when you put it in the next, probably a hydraulic clutch also so add fluid. If only 1 master cylinder then clutch is fed from it like brakes another source of leaks!
Synchros in the trans. seem shot. Carb. needs a rebuild or readjust - use the ethanol-proof parts. Automatic choke should open wide open when cold and warm should close all but like 1/8 or 1/16" at front of choke plate flap, but Holley may be different - so check with Holley or Google search the carb number
First of all, as a Ford man, I love this truck and the 2 Galaxies, as we once had a '64 Galaxie 500 XL with the 390 4bbl, Performance C6 and bucket seats with the long center console. But I am actually writing in regard to this truck. I had similar issues with my 1965 F100. Turned out it was a simple fix: Complete Tune-Up (new points, condenser, rotor, cap and wires) and a fresh rebuild of the Carb. Made a 150% improvement. Anyway, I wish you all the best with this truck and the Galaxies. And remember: You can't go wrong if you take your time and never stop learning! We can NEVER know TOO MUCH!
@@keithharden7844 Lol. Yeah, Right. I had a 440 in a Chrysler product once....JUST ONCE.. It was a POS. Broke down all the freaking time. Only car that we owned, and thank goodness it was for a very short time, was a 1969 Impala. That was a REAL POS...
Keep it Craig, that truck is clean and only needs a tune-up and clutch work and a few steering parts. It has too much cool factor to get rid of it!. It's funny when you cheer at green lights.
Been through that many a time. You got her home that's what counts. Ground a lot of meat on the way but they sell clutches for that still. Nice truck craig
Nah, you can't sell this old girl, she's badass. When you buy a beater, and take it home, you have to expect issues, been there, done that. Reminds me of one I didn't have money for in late 95 early 96. Same truck, but was a 65. Gotta hang on to the good stuff
Craig, this has the T18 transmission I'm assuming? They are really easy to rebuild. Novak sells a great kit with new syncrhos, bearings, split rings, etc etc. You can definitely do it yourself and just have a shop press on the new bearings when you're done. Comes with the goodies needed to rebuild the top cover, which will help you find 3rd easier too. Would make a great video! I rebuilt mine not too long ago so if you decide to rebuild it just hit me up if you have questions
i really don’t know why ppl dont use their super low gear? Its bad on the syncros to start out like that in 2nd cuz you have to ride the clutch longer for it to catch. I love these old 4x4 and 2wd trucks! I like old 4x4’s cuz they are super rare!
I had the same experience in sketch driving my '73 highboy home. 45 minute drive from Vancouver, WA to Stevenson, WA. Mostly uphill mountain roads with hairpins everywhere. Look up Cape Horn, WA if you wanna see where I live for pants shitting. They only difference is my truck has about 500 HP and 660lbft, everything else is that bad. No power brakes and the ones it has were garbage, no clutch, tired steering, and highway 14 is full of tourists and sight seer's. At one point I said screw it and just put my foot down in 3rd and was using my engine for braking. Scariest drive ever
Craig, it’s a work truck not a racer. Shift it like a grandpa. If you rev it like a racer and try to shift it like it’s a Tremec 5 speed it’ll grind every time. I have a 59 fridge and I start from 2nd gear and going to third if I rev it to 5000 it grinds. Just go easy on her and she’ll work just fine. Race the F-100 drive Tomater like he’s old. Shift it slower too don’t slam her!! It’s almost 60 dude be kind.
If anything....it's the truck thats trying to make you look good with what it has to work with, since you can't shift gears, you let it get to crappy conditions. The only good thing about this is that it's recorded and.....hmmmm, newish tires.
It kinda sounds exactly like Christine pulling into Darnell's shop. That perfect mixture of a bad single exhaust and some cylinders doing a little better then others. 😉👌
Love the videos and keep up the great work. Please do me a favor though, stop taking off in 1st gear lol... it’s not necessary and it’s extra clutch use that you don’t need. Take off in 2nd like the rest of us. Looking forward to the next video.
Good lord ! ...I picked up a 75 Explorer that was running on one brake (DSF) ,1st and third gear only, no lights, no wipers, no ps or pb assist , and it changed lanes by itself!! My wife pulled it into the driveway and I asked her how it did and she said it could of been better and just as she slammed the door shut...THE CENTERLINK FELL OFF!!! I fixed it and drove it daily for 5 years and still have it after 20 years because it belonged to my father in law who had passed. I have a 59 F100 SB,66 F100 lb, 70 F100 LB, 75 F100 Explorer LB, 80 F350 Wrecker and a 90 Bronco XLT........put on yer "Big Boy Boxers" and fix the damn thing!
Nah it's like having a big Pitbull. It's big, it's smelly, it's mean, looks like hell, and makes the neighbors assume you probably have a gun. It's the best home security a man could have. 👍
I've owned dozens of sketchy old cars and trucks. I sold off 5 last year and one this year, and I still have 5 vehicles. 3 of em are pretty sketchy, but not old ENOUGH to be classic or cool.
Why do you start out in granny low? You would be better off starting off in second. 1st gear in that truck is non synchronized if it’s the Warner T18 four speed transmission.
Hehehe, last time I couldn't turn to the right, an aftermarket mechanical temperature gauge's tube had wrapped, somehow, several times around the steering shaft and would loosen left, and tighten right. Only realized what was going on when I noticed the panel the gauge was mounted on moved when it tightened up. Yours... starts like it's got stuck mechanical advance weights. I'm six minutes in and waiting to see if you get stranded by what got me once, points out of adjustment saturating the coil. Pretty common to find the throttle cable stretched and not opening fully, that's an easy adjust. ED: Also remembering once another car that started to lose performance badly. Limped home, scoped it out, and one of the carburetor nuts had backed up the stud and was blocking the throttle plate from opening. It's all easy to see when you get a chance to look.
Get rid of the eldercrap carb use a Holley, new fuel pump and filter blow the line out first, pertronics distributor with coil and plugs, wires, if I remember correctly the tie rod ends are gone, and there is a adjustment screw on the top of the steering gear box ,then you should be a lot happier with the old girl, I loved the one I had
Sure enough...a 60 year old truck that hasn't seen maintenance for at least 50 of those years! No reason why it shouldn't be in A1 condition! But when you drag it through your usual remediative maintenance, you'll be golden! Actually, when it was new, it was a pretty sweet ride that absorbed lots of abuse, and kept running. Oh yes, Ford trucks of the day were well known for having very high sills with 4X4. Probably not many owners were installing lift kits!
It's been a while since I've driven a ford, but is that the choke cable, first nob to the right of the steering column? If it is, you're supposed to push the knob in once the truck is warmed up.They run better when the choke isn't left closed while driving.
@Thecraig909 I know this truck has issues, but it just seems like fun to be completely honest. This video was very enjoyable to watch, and the reason I clicked on your channel was becuase of this very truck. Please do not sell it, instead fix up just a little and it'll be a good old truck. And to be honest it runs pretty well for a 60 year old un-restored truck.
Looks like your not used to old trucks .Just double clutch it will be fine never force the gear lever. You should always use what gears you have .Second gear take offs are for lazy farmers Use first to get it rolling
LMFAO....think you were only firing on maybe 6 or 7 of the 8 cylinders! Steering box may need the adjustment screw turned in a foot or two, otherwise she's MINT.

Yup I remember those difficult days when I was young memories now coming back.
22:34 wild horse people crossing.
God damn it’s so hot watching you keep this old car running and then struggling to crank it up again 😍😍
Double clutch, once when you take it out of gear once when you put it in the next, probably a hydraulic clutch also so add fluid. If only 1 master cylinder then clutch is fed from it like brakes another source of leaks!

The coolest truck ever just the drive train needs rebuilding is all, nutton but a thang !
I'm not for sure but on the old Ford trucks there is an adjust on the steering head that might take out some of that slack
Fuel tank is full of rust. You need to find correct fuel pump. It on the third pump in 5 years. Power arms is better then power steering.
Wished you kept this truck.. I have a 66 f250 4x4 want looking at ideas for mine
Can’t remember if you got a new steering box for it or not, but if you haven’t get one and I think that will help a lot
put in second before putting in granny first. and try double clutching each shift. I think the shifter forks are worn. Aloha from the 808.

Weird...it was running on 6 cylinders until the end, then back on 8. Something wrong in there either with the carb or a huge vacuum leak.
Double clutch!
I was told that starting fluid is a big no no with these. Just pour gas down the carb

Fun VIDEO!!!!!! Don't get rid of it … it's great content!?!?
I think the part behind the wheel might need adjustments
Why do you insist on using the GRANNY GEAR?? 🙄
Otherwise, cool truck. Especially the 4x4 option 👍
Do you change clutches for a hobby?
You gotta get a bigger steering wheel, that looks dorky!
Very cool truck!
Pull the plugs first.Bad plugs will make the whole truck malfunction.

Swapping out that steering wheel to a larger original diameter one will definitely help out with how much effort it takes to move it around 👍
And it definitely needs a carb
to me a six cylinder is a boat anchor
Was it swapped to 4x4 or have the fenders been replaced they look like 2wd fenders

Are you driving with the choke open?
Don’t sell the damn thing, so much fun to watch you work on it and drive it and you’ll regret getting rid of it
you might need a new rag joint in the steering
Uh, did you see the last video? I think it needs a little more then that.
With a ford you can be off 180 and move the wires all ahead one all the way around and it will run
Happy 420
At least you got it home
If you can’t find it , grind it!!!
You got a dead miss there.
You just need to know how to drive the thing way more gas red line that thing it’s a ford won’t blow up
Sorry but the truck dying at the front of your drive way.
😆😆😆😆
Mom didn't look amused....
Cut your losses Craig and sell that POS!!
You parked ON the sidewalk?
I'd rather drive that than a new one screw air bags
This video reminds me of whistlindiesels video about how to drive a manual, you need to try rev matching instead of just trying to slam it into gear.

Nope . That won't work
If you had any idea how to drive a stick you'd shift better and who told you you dont start out in 1st. gear then what is 1st. gear for then
Grind ‘em ‘till ya find ‘em!
How come it's missing so bad?
Cause it's a Ford. 👍
And I thought my 79 F150 was a scary ride.
This is accurate to when I bought my 77 f250 before I rebuilt it, shifting was the same nightmare too
Double shuffle be patient
First gear is meant to pull something heavy or someone stuck,, it's 2,3,and 4th,, just an old man's knowledge is all,,
Reminds me of my 78 f150 i got 6 days ago. But mine runs decent and the 3 on the tree is minty
With those older trans and clutch’s just be nice with them don’t need to drive it like a sports car

LMFAO....think you were only firing on maybe 6 or 7 of the 8 cylinders! Steering box may need the adjustment screw turned in a foot or two, otherwise she's MINT.
Check your throttle cable/linkage, probably is too loose.
Great potential, but REALLY needs plugs ,wires, etc, etc. to get it running close to right, and not using QUITE so much gas. Todd the retired trucker.
