Very good and educational video. I just assumed all crush washers were crap. I could not find a crush washer that would not over torque the barrel. I live close to a major AR15 manufacturer and was having a barrel pin and welded by them. When I picked up the barrel, I asked them how they get their AR15's perfectly timed without a shim? They said that they just crush it until it's timed. Made me wonder how much force they are actually applying to the barrel. Maybe they are using the YHM? Maybe they don't care? Keep up the great videos.

Hello AR15TTU5M, Great Info!! What is the stock/part number of the YH crush washer? I can't quite make it out from the package in the video.

Is this their standard or “low profile” crush washer?
Having to heavily torque crush washers to get muzzle devices oriented made me start using self tightening flash hiders and no washer whatsoever, but if YHM works like it does in the video, I may have to rethink how future builds go.

What model torque wrench do you use?

@@Sam-mu5xh QC2FR75, its pretty old possibly obsolete and most likely no longer made. Recently calibrated, dead on. It will outlive me.

I know it's alleged that an overtorqued crush washer negatively affects precision, but in the 30 or so rifles I've built, this hasn't been a perceivable issue. Is there any published data suggesting otherwise? If so, how much of an effect are we talking about in terms of MOA? I'm not clear on how the mechanics of an orvertorqued washer could affect barrel harmonics in a meaningful way.

How much over torqued was your 30 or so rifles?

If you ask A lot of high precision shooters they’ll say they don’t go over 15 I stay at around 19-20 with the tiniest drop of rocksett.I don’t use crush washers I use accu-washers

@@peeeoii2738 accu washers dont look clone correct, gray, and the notches dont just do it for me. For A2 flash hiders, a crush washer is the right part for me.

There is a video here if you scroll back where he shows what over torquing a muzzle device can do(kinda). He uses a muzzle erosion gauge to show the effects of an over tight muzzle device,it’s pretty interesting.
I would like to see the effect on target to see how much it effects accuracy.

@@ar-15techtipsinunder5minut8 Hard to say; very few of them lined up with only a quarter twist or less to time them. Many of them required 3/4+ twist. But knowing they weren't going to be loose, and thus not worrying about adequate torque, I didn't use a torque wrench. But much more than 20 lbs in some cases; probably 30+.

Some crush washers have a nitride finish. This makes them to hard.
