This little bird is so beautiful. I learned a lot from this & will be watching this video over and over. You also settled a dilemma for me. I’ve been trying to figure out what brand of watercolor pencils to buy. I had pretty much settled on Faber-Castell Albrecht Dürer but for some reason too many folk would try to lead me to another brand. Mainly Derwent. I have the entire set of Polychromos and you pointed out using the same brand on top of the FC watercolors. So. I’m now 100% convinced to buy these. What a relief. I was driving myself crazy with this decision. I have Inktense but from watching this video I can see why I’d even want to get watercolors vs. a permanent water soluble pencil. The blend ability of a watercolor! Thank you for your lovely video here.
Awwh thanks so much Dawna! I haven't tried many watercolour pencil brands but the Albrecht Durer are absolutely fantastic! The polychromos work wonderfully over the top, can't fault them!
This is a beautiful bird and your step by step explanations of what you are doing and why is so wonderful. I have no color knowledge and am trying to learn how to color with colored pencils., but I am fascinated by many different coloring mediums and love to see how others who can afford to have many different mediums to use to make lovely art in all of them. This was a pleasure to watch!

Wonderful video, thank you! some very basic concepts that beginners need to learn and some of us older veterans need to remember! I really like that you did not resort to iridescent pencils. Mixing colors with the eye and blending with similar tones is very beautiful! Thank you!

Just lovely! Do you ever try adding color from pencils that give their own iridescence or "interference" colors? Or maybe adding a touch of iridescent paint at the right place and the perfect time during the coloring process.
I have not shopped for art supplies in a very long while - I wonder if they make oil pastels or regular pastels with a metallic iridescence that does not overwhelm the whole picture.
I love seeing wild birds up close that show that gorgeous glow - that fascinates and draws me in like a kid attracted to twinkling Christmas lights! I think using something like that sparingly would be stunning. I just found your channel and so I will binge watch (to see what other things you do to produce such amazing paintings.) Liked and subbed!

Looks dope! I just ordered cobalt green with some other pencils a week ago. It stimulates something in my brain. Its such a sexy color!
You should add some Water colored background to make it pop even more. Like a dark green blue ish jungle would fit wonderful.
