  • I went up the Scottish coast for a tarp and bivy camp
    It poured and was really windy all night, but I loved it,
    Cracking sunrise to boot,
    Join me on a special extremely wet and windy bivy camp.
    This location was kindly shared with me by fellow you tuber Shaun as we headed for our last camp on the coast

    I'm so jealous you live close enough to pop to Scotland as and when you like. Cracking 3:02 of coastline. Surprised, there was no issue with midges. Apparently, they have boomed up there this year (Scotland actually has a midge forecast online just like the weather).
    Glad you didn't put the tent up and toughed it out like a real bivy camper 👊👌 but at the same time I don't blame you at all for also taking the tent up Scotland.
    Thanks for the shoutout Adrian and you're most welcome for the shoutout too mate 👍 Lovely camp mate and very enjoyable 👊👌👍
    Beautiful morning sunrise 🌅 🌄 and the perfect example of why we do it.

      Hi Gez, thanks for watching, to be honest the tent was never coming out, (nice to have the back up), a bivy is too much fun, and to sit that storm out while dry and cosy was magic, yes we are lucky up here, less than an hour into Scotland,no midge problem on the coast spots as yet,
      Cheers

    I use “Holdon” tarp clips along the bottom edge of my tarp on the ground. This enable me to get rid of that horrible gap caused by the standard ties on the tarp. The edge pins down tightly to the ground and then it’s not draughty .

    • @northumberlandmountainhopper
      @northumberlandmountainhopper  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi and thanks for watching, I don’t mind the gap as I am in the bivy, sometimes I put short guy lines on the ground side so it sits over the Heather etc better, and it gives the wind some where to escape,
      But it’s a good tip if you want to pin it down tight,

      Hi and thanks for watching, did not see a tick this time, but on my ultimate tarp and bivy pitch video I ended up with 17 and the wife had to pick some off my back, I now cover my bivy, tent and rucksack in spray with permethrin in it expensive at £10 every few weeks but it works,

      @onanysundrymule3144 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am often plagued with ticks but it is from day walking in my case. I know this because I do not do any wildcamping. Body brushing bracken seems to be the worst for it. Whether bivvy or tent camping you will still be doing the walk-in, and the sitting on the ground brewing and cooking etc. So technically speaking, whilst an open bivvy could allow more opportunity for ticks to find you, I believe in practice however that 80 or 90% of them will get you at the walking-in stage, ie, you will introduce them into the tent anyways. Kind regards.

    Why don't you pin the tarp right to the ground on the windward side? Why do you put up with the thing blowing all over the place? And, why pitch it so high with such little coverage overhead. No offense but it makes you look like a novice backpacker. You are way too exposed.

      I always have my tarp high as I get more views, and even with the heavy rain I was dry,
      As for the back of the tarp I very rarely pin it to the floor as I feel it helps with the wind ,
      And the flapping, it did not prevent a nice sleep, and it was all about get something up quick before the heavy rain.
