This is the perfect example of a game drawing your attention with a strong visual identity, and selling you on it with (seemingly) appealing gameplay.
+ slightly resembling another popular game (terraria) with familiar sounds and items so that fans of that game are instantly hooked

@@SilverKiwi_YT wouldn't say so. Yoyo's remind me of terraria, so does the art style and some of the sound effects, especially the explosions, are very very reminiscent of terraria's sound design. But it for sure took some inspo from rain world als well

Yo guys, this is my boy Dunkers new game, you might not have heard of him, but support the little guy if you can. He tried to be a TH-camr, but I guess that didnt work out, so this is like his backup plan.

@@FromMan2Monkey-nb5fq ok, hold on. There's a very big difference between being the developer and publisher.
From some cursory searches, dunkey's involvement in this is that he made(?) the indie publishing company Bigmode, but the developer in this case is Shared Memory, which from what i can tell, isn't run by him.
Being the Publisher of a game is VERY different to being the developer. They're helpful, of course, and can be instrumental to the game's success, but saying that Dunkey(which, even then, it's a whole team in Bigmode, not just him) made the game instead of Shared Memory is like saying Bandai Namco made Elden Ring instead of fromsoft, or another example, saying that scholastic made Harry Potter.
Full disclosure, I have a limited understanding of the situation and really only saw this trailer and looked around google, so if dunkey runs Shared Memory, feel free to correct me, but from all i can find, he doesn't seem to.
I hope Beeg Yoshi is in this game. I’m sure he’s just sittin there.

I play tested this at PAX East, and I can’t wait for this game. So nice to see something fresh and exciting to play. You can see the effort that went into this game everywhere between audio, visuals, gameplay.. awesome. Can’t wait.

On topic, soundtrack REALLY caught my attention. I want to hear more.
Love the scanlines. This is how retro-inspired games should look.
Maybe not "should". This uses a proprietary engine which is why it can look like this, that and not every game should look the same.
You could also argue it's more "modern" and less "retro-authentic", it still looks great though.
Also dismissing the work of others for no reason isn't cool.

I was expecting a horror game because of the color scheme of the game, but seeing that it was rated E I thought it was wrong! Until I saw that white ghost cat chasing you! Like what the heck?! That's the stuff of nightmares!
It’s weird that Dunkey fans have sort of retroactively become Animal Well fans but hopefully it means more people will try the game out!

The sound design sounded amazing in this trailer. The sound of the yoyo rippling through the water and the subtle movement of the bushes sounded so clean, I really hope the whole game sounds that good

My thoughts exactly.
Yeah, but it's clearly not the same gameplay. Animal Well is more "find all the secret that we hide in the game" + Metroidvania. You have to interact with the environnement. Something will act differently if you use this item or not.
Playing as a lil guy? Check
Big animals trying to kill you? Check
Procedural animation? Check

I love the neon colors popping against the black, this will KILL on OLED

Im really not sure what to make of this game, when I look at the graphics it reminds me a lot of the better parts of Halo 3, but when I look into the gameplay its just like what I loved so much about Halo 2.
This is what indie games are about. I had this on my Steam Wishlist for quite some time already. Looking very forward to it!

It's so good for Dunkey to back such a previously unknown game. By the time he got involved it had only had one extremely high profile article about it.
It's not usually my type of game, but I love the art style, and I'm willing to try it for dunkey!

I recall that the guy who made this game made an entirely new engine from the ground up just for it. Which is outstanding to me. I'll definitely be trying to play this one just to see how different it feels compared to other games as a result of this. It's looking real cool already!
