Rudy was a tremendous drummer with a lot of power and very good technique. To me, he was like a blending of Max Roach and Art Blakey. He was a student of a good friend of mine, Sam Ulano. Yes, his Rogers sound fantastic here. I think that Buddy Rich was also playing Rogers at the time, and Louie Bellson would be playing them soon thereafter as well. Very hip solo by an excellent drummer.

I had never heard of him before now and he’s an instant favorite! That’s also the classiest drum kit I’ve ever seen.
I was thinking the same thing. This cat was (is?) good and those vintage Rogers drums in that finish are incredible!

They were a hardware company like Camco. Rogers did not make shells like Ludwig and Slingerland. Rogers used Jasper shells.
