I've been playing this game for 31 years and it was only as an adult that I realized the Title Screen song was basically a rearranging of the Super Mario Bros. water level theme.
I mean, the character select screen does have the curtains in later versions, and the whole game (SMB2) is based on a dream, so it very well should’ve been.
The super show was based a lot on smb2 and used a ton of the same music and sound effects. They even had a super mario 3 themed super show at one point.
@@AtomicBreadCannon, don't forget the one based on Super Mario World (which was the last Mario cartoon so far), which a lot of people know for its last episode.
I definitely would not have used that many horns for this soundtrack. The honky-tonk piano is definitely right, though. I may be partially biased from Super Mario All-Stars, but just from genre alone, I'd have limited the use of horns.
My major issue was the mixing. Some tracks had the main melody almost completely inaudible while the harmony was way too loud. Really easy problem to fix but it ruined the tracks it cropped up in.
My major issue was the mixing. Some tracks had the main melody almost completely inaudible while the harmony was way too loud. Really easy problem to fix but it ruined the tracks it cropped up in.
Wow I really like the ending theme instrumentation. Triumphant horns into the dreamy glockenspiel, really excellent choices for the vibe of the original.
If you listen to the Mega Man Wily Wars OST, it would give somewhat an idea, since the Genesis does use some sort of synth soundfont (I think the soundchip was a Yamaha...?).
Some of the Japanese commercials featured arranged versions of the music themes, of course using synthezisers of the time. I remember khinsider having official arranged versions albums.
This is AMAZING! PRECIOUS! Everything i once thought about is here! The Honky Tonk on Title theme, the trumpets, even the violin on Character Select! (Believe me, that one was oddly specific) This is magical, and a work where you can really tell how much love you put doing this, and that's all Would love to see a Yume Kōjō Doki Doki Panic version of this, specially because of songs like the Credits one
I'd love for people to make MSU-1 hacks of, well, any soundtrack I've ever covered. I know Mesen has HD pack which allow you to replace the music, so it's possible with NES games too.
@@fco64 in the original NES versions, yes. It was all similar sounds cause the 2A03 was limited in the amount of sounds it could generate. Entire engine rewrite, which the all-stars ports do not. They more or less port the code directly, cause the processor he SNES uses is similar enough to the NES's 2A03, which is just a 6502 with decimal mode removed.) Still, the all-stars ports are good in their own rights ^^
@@quadpad_music I know that much. It'd still have to be compressed, samples shortened, etc. I meant the _arrangement_ here should have been what the allstars port sounded like.
The ending luluby, it's so effortlessly melodic. I've never forgotten it, I played this game when it first released when I was 10 years old. Still the best Mario game.
This is so cool sounding. The only thing more I could’ve wished for were the new songs made for the Super Mario Advance version of the game like Jar and the Opening Theme to have been remastered like this, too. That being said, what’s here is fantastic!
The title theme is borderline perfect, aside from the lack of bass. I have some personal things I'd change if I ever did my own arrangements but holy hell these are amazing.
OMG, this sounds amazing, especially the credits music. Super Mario bros. 2 may be a strange one, but I can safely so you did an amazing job on this remix.
If Super Mario Bros. 2 was available as a PC title for…any computer with a good sound and instrument system. It sounds similar to LEGO Island’s uncompressed music to me.
Hit or miss on this one. The original synths of the NES created a better song. It's those shrill leads here I think. Your work on SMB3 is 100% spot on though imo
I like how the original NES versions of the songs were used as the basis. Not to hate on the SNES versions, but the NES ones have different rhythms/timings and I like them more.
I've been enjoying your stuff appearing in my feeds, the last two-three days... I think it's time I fix that old Subscribe Issue I've been having... Done... I am now Subscribed. Keep up the good work.
I don't know what it is about old Mario games but the music is so much better and well thought out in each game felt unique. I feel like now Mario music sounds too much of that big band sound I'm kind of the same across each game
Remember when we went to that dream world one day Luigi? uhh... mario? where you high on mushrooms? Luigi, that's not what actually really happened! Seriously tho this is amazing! Reminds me of the super show but this is way way way cleaner and better!
Awesome work!!! You even did the _full_ version of the Subspace theme! Normally, the game only plays the first 7 seconds if the tune, but there's an additional 7-8 seconds you can't hear in-game without hacking. Only complaint is that I wish you would've also done the prototype underground theme, which is fairly similar to SMB3's but it increases the tempo after the second loop... for some reason.
You should check my Lost Levels for SC-55 project. The underground arrangement there is a hybrid between the 3/4 SMB1 version and the SMB2 prototype version.
It's not SNES, of course, but I like it. It's far from SNES, but still super. True, PietroM made Super Mario Advance much better. But that doesn't change my love for his work. It's like different versions of the same game. I love them all.
Everyone knows for now this game original osts are yume kōjō doki doki panic osts but nintendo changed sound quality also added last part of musics and this remix is crazy lol
Again, I still think the subspace theme is on steroids with the reverb. It’s a bit too much to the point where I’d honestly prefer the theme without any reverb at all. Other than that, I like the music. 👍

Same with the SMB1 and SMB3 title themes in All-Stars. And the trailer music for Super Mario Sunshine...
@@AquaMIDIThe idle demo for Sunshine, not the trailer.
OMG I had no idea until now!
the "music box" theme when you put the wandering hammer brothers to sleep in smb3 is also part of the melody from the first game, main theme.
