I do think that, as long as they don't directly tamper with already known stuff, delving into some originality to fill the blanks isn't bad. Even if it doesn't make sense for real life people to be asking Consort about an elixir, it would make sense for her to investigate an already immortal person.

FGO has two treatments for its Servants: - The 100% faithful to the Legend/Historical Figure treatment: The treatment that the best Servants in Fate get, but there's the possibility that the Servant (being 100% faithful) doesn't end up standing out or becomes unpopular. - The throw-the-Legend/Historical-Figure-in-the-trash treatment: The treatment that the worst Servants in Fate get, but there's the possibility that that Servant not faithful to the Legend/Historical-Figure ends up being very standing out or popular.
I dunno. I feel like most servants fall somewhere in the middle most of the time. The reason being that most historical and mythological figures have a tendency to lack the kind of characterization you need for flexibility outside of the sources they appear in. You end up having to take your best guess about how they might react to all the crazy drama that being a Servant at Chaldea requires and it's easier to do so in an entertaining way when you exaggerate certain characteristics.
You CAN make a Servant thats very accurate still interesting though? Yurie just did Bedivere and yes, he’s a special Bedi cuz he’s from Singularity 6, but Yurie rated Bedi as pretty high still. Fate ABSOLUTELY can make accurate AND fun/unique characters.
When will Fgo stop sqeezing diffrent characters spirit origin into one amalgam when they have no business being one yet alone 3 or 4 in one and doing that multiple times.
i've always thought that a lot of what made xu fu interesting in the context of fate was a little bit overshadowed by the fangirl joke. she's got a ton of potential-- she makes sense for an alter ego, and many of fate's biggest names (hello, gilgamesh!) could have good character moments with an alchemist who searched for and might have found the elixir of immortality; even if that elixir is, in the end, uh. medically contraindicated for mercury poisoning. for the longest time, that's what i thought her np and immortal killer skills were referencing! i confess it's a bit of a shame to learn they're summer event tie ins ;w; maybe an alter someday could lean into that deific nature and more serious stories.... regardless, thank you for the video! :D
