Basically the female equivalent of Aniki/Ani-san. Though idk about saying it's formal, at least relative to academia English as opposed to slang, but I would say it's more used for respect to someone's seniority in whatever group they are a part of.
They could have made her trait of wanting to save all children related to her abandoning her child and her deeply regretting that act, so she’s trying to make up for what she could consider one of her worst acts, especially since she was eventually caught doing the act anyway, making the abandonment ultimately meaningless. Every child suffering would remind her of her own failures and she would do anything to correct that wrong and perhaps make it up to her son But I’m not a writer so while I think it’s a neat concept I doubt I could execute it well.
I feel like that particular tidbit would clash with the already established Atalanta lore, considering the version Fate seem to be going with here kinda sorta implies she threw the match with Hippomenes. So at which point _why_ would Atalanta abandon her son in a relationship that is official and agreed upon? They raced, she lost, they married, they are already husband and wife. Unless you are going with the idea that he's Meleager's son instead, which would make slightly more sense in terms of drama but then it becomes wierd and downright impossible in the sense of the timeline because Meleager died way too soon to be the father. Also, I always thought it would be way funnier if the reason Atalanta yeeted her son to the mountains was simply because that's her idea of training him.
About Atalanta going nuts in Apocrypha: I’ve heard that a contextualizing Szene from the novel got cut in the anime. Allegedly she contracted a curse from her encounter with jack, causing her to hear the childrens voices crying to her for the rest of the war which made her hyperfixate on Jeanne. I haven’t read the novel myself though, so I’m only commenting based on what I’ve seen discussed by others before.
I think that's something that happens in the Novel: Atalanta contracts a curse that slowly consumes her (and causes her to go mad) While that better justifies her descent into madness, the Atalanta-Jeanne conflict always feels forced even in the Novel.
It indeed is half the reason Atalanta goes off the deep end. The curse even takes shape in turning her arm black. But it's also stated that if she had wanted to, Atalanta could have gotten the curse removed rather easily. However after being mind-raped, she never felt a need to get rid of the curse
@@Pridam Technically goes further than that. Yes, Amakusa or Semiramis could have easily removed the lingering curses from Jack, but minor curses like that affecting a higher spiritual being such as a Servant let alone a Servant with Magic Resistance is almost impossible. The only reason they do stick is because Atalanta wants them to as a twisted form of punishment/desire to keep them close.
In the original material for Apocrypha, she was supposed to have another NP unrelated to her named "The Seven Arrows of the Big Dipper", thankfully it was removed in her official appearances cuz both Phoebus Catastrophe and the Seven Arrows are unrelated to her.
Considering the Big Dipper comes from Callisto, who is Atalanta's distant grandmother and a fellow princess of Arcadia, they could have explained the NP as her ancestor looking out for her.
22:20 I actually have another thought about this. I thought about this when rewatching Apocrypha recently, and I think it might have to do with their beliefs. Jeanne is a Christian, and so has the Christian view of the afterlife and Heaven. Atalanta doesn't, she's Greek, and in Greek myth a good afterlife is only afforded to great heroes. From Atalanta's perspective, sending the kids to the afterlife before she can save them with the Grail is dooming them to, at best, the eternal nothingness of Asphodel from just being nobody kids, or at worst, the eternal hell of the Fields of Punishment because of what they do as part of Jack.
Ane-san is another way of calling sister (usually not blood-related) in a more casual but still maintant some level of respect. Typically used by someone with a delinquent attitude toward a person they admire or follow (if you have seen any school life anime with a female gang boss, her male underling would usually call her that).
When it comes to Nasuverse alignments, my best guess is that the characters being judged are the ones filling in the blanks i.e. Gilgimesh self identifies as Chaotic Good.
Atalante's Berserker summon is similar to Vlad in a sense. A weaker version of the NP is active in exchange of stability and a second NP. Only that she can change back to Archer if she ever wanted to. And about the boar's pelt, rather than not having it in normal Summonings, she just refuses to use it or doesn't know how (as said in that bond CE). She's also considered a Fake Alter by that very Interlude because her heightened thoughts are not something she held in life, but she gained them because of Jack, whereas all Alters held those thoughts in life but never acted upon them.
Atalante: Every child has the right to be saved! SOMETHING THAT THE HOLY MAIDEN HERSELF DOESN'T SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND! Jeanne: I understand.... Everyone has the right to be saved... But.... Haven't you stopped to think that, perhaps, those children you wish to protect are a threat or a danger to humanity (and other children)? Jeanne: Not all children are born and grow up to be saints. Atalante: (Proceeds to show angry gesture towards Jeanne for no reason) Jeanne: Also..... Doesn't PHH mention that you abandoned your own children or is the Holy Grail lying to me (which wouldn't surprise me...)? Atalante: (TRIGGER) YOU'RE DEAD, RULER! DEAD, DID YOU HEAR ME!
It's a shame that Peleus could never be a servant because it would complicate everything because it wouldn't make sense for them to have a secret love child who should be a servant Achilles knows Adelante is way closer to being stepmom than his big sister
Would that really be the angle they go for? I mean, in the myths, Achilles was the son of the goddess Metis: him being Metis's son was kind of a big deal.
13:30 her conversation lines back this up Conversation 1: Your pace has slowed. What is it? conversation 2: I need you to move swifter than me, master In myth, it was the porking in the temple that got her in trouble not the act of falling in love
Ani-san is the female/gender-neutral version of Aniki. Aniki is "Big Brother" but generally in this context is more like what you'd call someone you deeply respect who is older than you. Onee-san and Onii-san is more familial in context while Ani and Aniki are more like calling someone "Big boss". It has a context in the culture of what a yakuza/gangster, soldier, or sports team member might call a respected senior when "Senpai" just doesn't do enough to show how much the speaker respects them. You can use Ani for family too if you respect your older siblings enough but don't want to put them on a pedistal by going as far as using the lord honorific of "-sama". In short Achilles *really really* respects Atalante and it is sufficient enough that he likens himself to a child in front of her and will do what she says because of it.
In some stories, the temple is dedicated to the goddess cibeles which is why shes shown riding a chariot pulled by lions They are Atalante and her lover
I think you were a little too harsh this time. I don't think her behaviour when dealing with Jack's trauma would be uncharacteristic of her, specially since that bounded field of Jack's existence *is* meant to cause mental distress. The unrelated NPs would be a reason to drop the accuracy rank a bit, that's true.
I've always found Atalante insufferable in Fate. The kind of person that'll shoot down a schoolbus if the windows were tainted and a sworn ennemy told her the bus _might_ crash into a child.
I recall being annoyed a bit annoyed when I found out Fate Apocrypha had given Achilles an NP based around speed, because at the time I knew Atalante for the foot race. I hadn't even heard of the Boar Hunt until long after. Even today, I closely associate Atalanta with Super Speed, in the same way Hercules is associated with Immense Strength With this video I've now seen all of your fate character videos! In the spirit of that, I'll share some servants I'd be insterested in seeing you cover. I'll do one for each main class plus an extra class to have fun for it 1. Rama 2. Arash 3. Li Shuwen 4. My main issue with Atalanta's depiction in fate is that she both is and seems nerfed. She was nerfed from her initial design to her first story appearance. With the novel for Apocrypha, she lost both a skill and multiple noble phantasm compared to her first character sheet (in fate complete material IV). You made mention of her tossing a golden apple at the enemy to confuse them as something she could give as a noble phantasm. She can do something fairly similar in her original design with the skill "golden apple." It would lure a target close to the apple. Atalanta originally possessed a running related noble phantasm as well. It allowed quick traversal in straight lines (like a race). Anyone she passed would fall into discord during its use. I feel this type of np is sorely lacking from her final design. Her main claim to fame is quick-footedness, after all. You'd expect this to manifest as a noble phantasm, just as it did for Achilles. As an aside, this noble phantasm of hers is actually tied to the boar pelt, not her own legend, according to cmIV. The discord caused by its use might be referencing how the boar would wreak havoc wherever in Calydon it was. As to why I think she seems nerfed in general: mythology doesn't just depict Atalanta as a quick runner. Fitting for her name meaning "equal in weight," stating that she is the equal of men: she was a match for men in general, not just in running. Descrptions of Atalanta by both greek and roman accounts often describe her physicality in general, not just how fast she was. You also made mention of her wrestling match with Peleus: a popular form of depicting Atalanta in art. Considering this, her parameters seem awfully low. There are child servants and non fighters with higher strength and endurance parameters than she.
I agree with all of this. I feel like the reason she got nerfed was because they decided to carve up her kit and give it to the other Greek Servants. She's famous for her speed, so she should have a NP for it right? Nope, Achilles needs to have a speed based NP. She's notable for being highly skilled at pankration, so is that aspect of her character shown? Nope, but Achilles and Chiron are both pankration masters. Atalanta was one of the original Apocrypha Servants, and I feel like while they were adding in the new Servants to fit into the story, they gradually nerfed Atalanta again and again by stripping her of her skills and NPs and giving them to others.
someone told me this about artemis. what people think: I want to be forever young with long hair as the goddess is: you are already an adult, look for a husband soon as parents, the country need your future child.
I’m just here wondering why Atlanta did the thing her father did to her like word for word bar for bar then I realized Artemis is her patron goddess and also kind of a hypocritical jerk so who knows maybe she adopted those same traits from her is possible🤷♂️
I think berserker works because she didn't assassinated John the Baptist, just seduced her uncle via her mother's wish (BRUH moment) to have John executed for calling her out.
and if she does get an assassin class, I hope the NP would be something like her uses of the dance of the seven veils to crit, stun and or charm (male) opponents in reference to driving king Herod mad enough for her to kill John. she could literally dance, or the veils could bind. then throw a silver plate to decapitate them.
I am not fan of Atalanta Berserker be called Alter mostly because it's isn't Alter in normal way. She's not corrupted by grail or something along the lines. Her Berserker form is just matter of her Noble Phantasm and if you remove her Boar skin then she would reverb into Archer form. This is more in normal servant way, when they can be summoned in others class vessels, and no alternative version of timeline.
Well, I am dealing with a lot of myth people. I do use the same phrases continuously for the sake of structure though - so that viewers can clearly tell when I'm transitioning into a new topic. :o
@@CrazyYurie when she was using it in anime it was presented as an NP but i dont know. Its easy to find short clips on TH-cam of Jeanne vs Atalanta or Atalanta NPs
Never thought about Atalanta's emblem being a bear's paw print before. Neat detail. Phoebus Catastrophus isn't related to her, I agree, but I do find it interesting that both her NPs are essentially expressions of Artemis' wrath. That combined with her Taroupolos being a gift from Artemis and Phoebus Catastrophus being subtitled as a "Complaint to the Gods" does sell Atalanta as a nice sort of handmaiden of Artemis. Her Valentine and Bond CE kinda play off of/against each other. The Valetine apple is one she expects you to use of you are ready to accept the consequences of beating her i.e marriage. Her Bond CE specifically states that she has no intention of giving you a Golden Apple as you have no need of one in regards to her implying that you don't need to race and beat her. She already sees you as a partner. Atalanta's son is honestly a weirdly contradictory point not even taking Fate into account. Some accounts have him being the son of Meleager, others Hippomenes, and some even say Ares was the dad. There's also the fact that in the 7 Against Thebes, Atalanta is apparently cured from her curse and is begging her son to stay and let her train him before he runs off to join the war. The fact that Atalanta is present as a human years after she was cursed makes her son a dubious case to me. As for the Jeanne/Jack/Atalanta debacle Jeanne doesn't send them to the afterlife. She doesn't have the ability to because the spirits that comprise Jack are nameless. Instead, she exorcises them, erasing them from existence. I...really don't want to do a whole write-up explaining the mess that is the Jack/Jeanne/Atalanta incident, so I'll try to be brief. Atalanta couldn't save Jack but thought that a Saint like Jeanne could. Jeanne didn't save them and instead exorcised them thus commiting a cardinal sin in Atalanta's eyes-abandoning and killing children. But Jeanne's actions are "right", and the world that aborted and abandoned those children cannot be denied. So yes, Atalanta hates Jeanne for not saving Jack. She hates herself for not being able to save them. She hates how powerless she is to change the world. And she hates the fact that Jeanne is right, and that her dream is wrong-impossible. Her Alter form was just her burying her helplessness and despair into rage, and when Achilles wakes her up by ripping the pelt off her, she's clearly given up at that point wishing only to fall into the pits of hell. As for her child obsession, I'd say it's an interesting take on her character as a Servant. Atalanta in myth didn't have any aspiration towards saving children...and that kinda stays true to Atalanta in Fate too. At least when she was alive. In the Light Novels, it actually goes over backstory, outlook, and motivations. In life, what she desired wasn't salvation for children but love-"true love with no strings attached to carnal desire, honor or lust for power" She had a hole in her heart from being abandoned as a child, felt distant from her fellow Argonauts, and caused Calydon to lose it's prince and queen in a single day. She wanted her father to love her like a father should, but he only saw her as an useful tool. And then she ends up tricked by Hippomenes and loses her humanity-an event traumatic enough that her Bond CE conveys how she doesn't want to remember what happened after she lost that race. As for why she's obsessed with saving children, her Servant Profile from FGO Materials I does give a hint. "As far as she is concerned, Atalanta exists as a symbol of purity for children while simultaneously, she is an existence that projected her very own former self." Atalanta draws a distinction between who she was when she was alive and what she wants to accomplish and be as a Servant. She was abandoned as a child and could never feel truly loved, so she devotes her new existence as a Servant to saving other children so that they don't have to go through the pain that she did. Funny that you did mention giving her the Golden Apple as her NP. That actually was one of her original NPs planned back when Apocrypha was prototyped as a MMO.
Honestly I’ve never been super fond of Atalanta’s outfit design, the green mini dress doesn’t really evoke ancient Greece or the idea of a hunter at all to me, and yeah it’s a cute dress, but she never struck me as the type of character to value fashion over function. On a plus side, in the English dub of the anime she’s voiced by one of my all time favourite English VAs, so that earns her some points in my book.
I watched Apocrypha in sub since I tend to prefer that, but I went with the dub to get the footage for this video - as I tend to do so that the subtitles don't get in the way. I'll admit it was pretty good. Dubs aren't quite as bad as they used to be, and there are certainly some gems among English VA's. I'll admit I have a particular liking for Crispin Freeman, who gets to play Kirei in Fate, among many other roles. :D
@@CrazyYurie I tend to watch Dubs both because it’s what I’m used to, and also because my dyslexia can make it quite difficult to read subtitles and watch a show at the same time, especially if there’s a lot going on. I generally think dubs having a reputation for being “bad” is kinda undeserved nowadays, bad dubs still happen now and then of course, but I’d say that nowadays the number of good dubs vastly outnumber the bad dubs

from adopted daughter of a goddess to heroine to lion with her husband... she was transformed into a lion, which means she became a man in the end
…No, it just means she turned into a female lion.

@@Leonardovideogoes
So? There are actual circumstances that can allow female lions to grow manes even in real life.
@@kziila0244 I didn't know that, I thought the mane was exclusive to the male
@@Leonardovideogoes
Yeah. It’s actually pretty rare. But it can happen.
I think in apocrypha she has third np - when she fights against Jeanne
Bow of Heaven Tauropolos. Its just a release of her bow name created for fgo?
I didn't see it listed as an NP
As for the Jeanne/Jack/Atalanta debacle
Jeanne doesn't send them to the afterlife.
In life, what she desired wasn't salvation for children but love-"true love with no strings attached to carnal desire, honor or lust for power"
She had a hole in her heart from being abandoned as a child, felt distant from her fellow Argonauts, and caused Calydon to lose it's prince and queen in a single day.
"As far as she is concerned, Atalanta exists as a symbol of purity for children while simultaneously, she is an existence that projected her very own former self."
Atalanta draws a distinction between who she was when she was alive and what she wants to accomplish and be as a Servant.
Uwaa... not paragraphs? :(
I remember hearing another version of the story it wasn't her brothers it was her other two sons
Hmm?
@@CrazyYurie the one about the guy and the piece of wood
