      Ryeshock4 I hope you are having a great day! I came down to the comments to make a comment and I was going to say, the way he laughs is the way my best friend used to laugh like. He was in a wheelchair for 6 years due to a car accident and then passed away in 2018 off of an infection from a surgery.

    Jeff,.... I found for the gold cube .. if you prewet the mats and then rub them with black sand to fill the matting ... when you start up your gold cube run it for a few minutes and the black sand will quickly run out and leave no air bubbles. Then you can run your ore classifieds.

    I do know where there is a vein of iron pyrite that runs in a fault area of the Auburn dam area up in Auburn, California. I never thought much of it, until I saw what just occurred in the video. I was expecting a nice ingot of iron but gold, that made my day.

    Jeff thanks a great deal for sharing your extensive knowledge of prospecting and geology. I am a science nerd and work in healthcare, but recently picked up prospecting with a friend who owns property in the carolinas not far from the Haile Gold Mine. There is an abandoned mine on the property with more quartz than I'd ever seen. I don't know if we will find the motherlode or not, but getting outdoors, learning, and having a great time is what this is all in the spirit of. God bless you sir!

    Hi Jeff, In 1967 I was tipping 2500 lbs of iron at Brillion Iron Works, repairing furnaces (3) on weekends. You need safety glasses and face shield. The last thing I did was stick temp probe in furnace, it spit back and hit safety glasses 3 places on right eye ! Then I showered and left for the Navy for 6 years. Life would have been much different if I had not worn safety glasses and asbestos jacket. I enjoy your videos, see you around the dirt pile some day. Dan

    Hey Jeff, there's a roast that I read about a long time ago and tried it and it works. This one you can do in the field as you only need a match to light it and a roasting pan like you have.Not sure but I think I either found it in " A Handbook for Prospectors" Richard M. Pearl or Roses, T.K. Take sample mix with flour or carbon, KNO3 . Also called salt peter which you can often find at drug stores or stump remover. I usually add a little soda. Usually equal parts. I've done this in old metal gold pans. Crush with your rock hammer, pan to beads collect and smelt.

    Actually iron pyrite can hold up 4 ounces per ton of gold in solid solution. Arsenopyrite is potentially much richer at up to 490 ounces of gold per ton.

    • @karhukivi
      @karhukivi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's correct. Many of the pyrite deposits in the Iberian "Pyrite belt" (S. Spain & Portugal) have 4 ppm (4g/t) of gold in them. The weathered gossans are a natural concentration mechanism as the pyrite disintegrates into iron oxide and the gold is released.

      Frank Roberts, that's a very good response . . . thanks! If someone would like to see a black smoker on the surface, plate movement brought some up that were rich in silver and lead. they are located west of Utah Lake in the Ophir Mountains near Provo, Utah. They're all mined out now and are deep vertical shafts, maybe 20 feet across and 130+ feet deep. BLM has fenced most of them off and filled in many with local sand. There was practically no overburden or waste dump around them and they were all played out by the early 1950's.

Could it have been gold! If so how much would that be worth today if it consisted primarily of gold? That was in the late 1960's

    • @FSCB2013

      About $220k in USD.
      Estimating it was 2x3x2 inches =12 cubic inches = 196cc.
      Density is 19.3 g/cc.
      So weight =3.8kg.
      Gold price now is about $56k /kg.
      That is if you sold it today.
      This is better than if you sold it back in 1960s. Inflation in US has only gone 8x from 1960 to 2021.
      Gold price has done maybe 30x in the same time period.

    Hey Jeff, where would you recommend purchasing crucibles, kilns and hardware needed to smelt gold. You've encouraged me to give it a crack myself! It's great what you do, very Inspiring. Cheers 👍

    Hey Jeff, you mentioned using sodium nitrate and borax as an oxidation agent. Would potassium nitrate suffice?
    Also, in your experience is the addition of an oxidizing agent better than just a virgin roast of ore? Thanks Jeff and Slim!

      Yes, they are almost identical except S N is hydrostatic and isn't prefered for Blk Pwd use. As for simple oxidizers - NaNo3 is fine BUT I'm pretty sure Jeff said Potassium Nitrate, KNo3, and many Blk Pwdr guys just use stump remover. Check the lable to see Pot Nit. Cheep Cheep. So, Sod Nitrate is perfect.@@TerpGod336

    Jeff what if my mercury didn't catch much gold and left behind many gold flakes. Could my mercury be bad or is my material too gold rich...? Maybe too much pyrite or can you over squeeze the mercury in the cloth when separating the mercury form the gold?

    • @Askjeffwilliams
      @Askjeffwilliams  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can have " Sic " mercury ...it must be distilled.

    • @TheEzlau
      @TheEzlau 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Askjeffwilliams OK we will try to distill it tomorrow...we have loads of pay dirt, so we used 200g of mercury on a paint bucket of our 150 mesh material...I am Laura and my hubby Ezequiel left you his phone number on Lilis channel. We want to make a donation to your channel but we are trying to process 600 kilos and have run into this problem with our mercury....also we are trying to process without a shaker table. We love all of your videos Jeff 5 Stars!!!

    Jeff, the crucible has a thin coating of slag, which may contain some gold and maybe other metals when pouring kiln-hot material into the mold. How can I "rinse" out the crucible, as you would with water, if residue were left in a glass flask? I'm concerned because if I were evaluating ore from a potential new claim, any gold left in the crucible might give me a significant error in my final analysis. Thanks for sharing this fine video and discussing so many details along the way.

    • @Askjeffwilliams

      you have to use a thinner with the flux....

    so are you saying all pyrite isn't leaverite? what of iron pyrite? and I've heard of gold residing in black sand. I suspect a same sort of process to extract from it as well.

    Question: why oxidize then reduce? Is it needed to liberate the gold from the sulfide lattice?

    • @Askjeffwilliams
      @Askjeffwilliams  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes you must oxidize the sulfur first to leave behind Gold and iron...then you can smelt down the Gold and remove the junk
