I love medieval and Renaissance music and the way Blackmore has breathed new life into it and given it a modern feel. Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night have created another classic with this lusciously romantic and bittersweet song. I love the graceful movements of her hands as she sings, her expressive fingers and her soulful voice telling the story of this medieval folk ballad. Meanwhile, there in the shadows is Blackmore, guiding the other musicians with his flawless guitar play and the subtle moments of his body...with a nod of his head or a shift in his posture as he walks upon the stage he directs the performance. He is a virtuoso guitarist and a master conductor and she is a radiant and talented vocalist. Like modern day minstrels these two artists have helped to revive the medieval folk music tradition and I only hope they continue producing more romantic masterpieces like Ghost of a Rose.
+Doc Holiday I haven't even heard the studio version and was thinking the same thing....I was like "man, this can't sound any better anywhere else...not even studio recording." She is freaking amazing!!!!! First time seeing this group perform, but not the first song I'm hearing from them. VERY talented group indeed!!! Such skill and beautiful sounds!!!
+Doc Holiday I agree, I remember seeing some live performances and when a singer with a great voice in the albums sounds much worse live. But she sounds just as good or better live. I want to see these guys in concert...
Long time no hear that song, maybe near 10 years... love this song and miss my lover... a sad memory for me. Want to cry so much, but my tear never drop because of you :(
What an astounding performance, the entire song (a personal favourite) was performed flawlessly sounding even better live than the studio recording. Thanks for Sharing
I now know what I want played at my funeral and wedding (if it happens). I've always been drawn to white roses more than the other roses and this song is perfect confirmation as to why I feel that way.
Stumbled across this one and OMFG. . . I honestly remember this band from waaaay back, I wanna say at least a decade. Had a strong Chicago following. Lost 'm in the daily mix of life goes on. Wonderful to find this - thanks for posting! ~ S ~
Gotta love a musician who raises the middle finger to the people asking "WTF Ritchie", and plays and writes the music he loves with the woman he loves. Props Ritchie.
You are correct. They are the Posner sisters and sang from 2002-2007 for BN. If Ritchie was true to form, he would not keep anybody in the band that could sing better than Candice.
"If Ritchie was true to form, he would not keep anybody in the band that could sing better than Candice." Um . . . wow. I know only a few people will get this reference, but for anyone who's seen "Phantom of the Paradise", that's a Swan-level move right there. He says in the film a line to the effect of, "I despise perfection in anyone but myself." If Ritchie and/or Candince's egos are so fragile they couldn't stand to work with talent beyond their own, they're quite childish. As much as I love Blackmore's Night and as talented as Candice is, I must admit that doesn't seem beyond her. She seems "fake" in how she carries herself. Even in this video, it seems obvious--her movements look too unnaturally precise and staged, as if she's going, "Look, audience, don't I seem like the loveliest fairy who stepped out of the Middle Ages into your midst? Aren't you just so awed and inspired by me?"
I love this song so much. I'm working on a sci-fi novel series with a friend of mine, set in France in the 1920s and dealing with alchemy and the mysticism that comes with it. This song, and wondering what exactly a "ghost of a rose" would look like inspired a painting featured in the first book, one of its key visuals. Thanks. Blackmore's Night!
@@MariaPerez-gb6tf You're not the first person to ask this. It isn't, but I've learned about him thanks to people wondering if it is. When I first read about Fulcanelli, my heart caught in my throat because he sounded exactly like one of the characters, a man known simply as "the Professor" or Professor Neville. Again, I'd never heard of Fulcanelli and neither had my friend. Maybe we unknowingly tapped into his spirit? That's the joy of writing--it takes on a life of its own and can lead you to places and people you never expected.
Is audience here on dope? This is so energetic and transcedent, they should be dancing in wild delirium, and yet all they do is moving their heads in slow motion...
They aren't because the audience members don't pay to go watch other members of the audience dancing in wild delirium; they pay to hear the musicians play. They don't spend a lot of money to have to witness the lowest common denominator act like an unruly mob, ASSSSSSSS! Somebody's "on dope", but it isn't the audience.
This is my favorite blackmores night song and the best version of it! Candice is incredible and the band as a whole are off the charts!!!
Ditto

I love Ritchie's guitar and Candice's voice ❤
Give credit to the outstanding backup singers. The 2 sisters are truly in an elite class.
you seem to know who they are, who is the red head back up singer
possibly the posner sisters?
You are correct. They are the Posner sisters and sang from 2002-2007 for BN. If Ritchie was true to form, he would not keep anybody in the band that could sing better than Candice.

Once again, thanks.
Way better than the studio version...especially the ending is just amazing. ❤️ 💫
The real white rose is the ravishing beauty singing this song, her expressive hands like the petals of a flower dancing in the breeze.
