I've never ridden it, but somehow Goudurix is so iconic to me. I remember seeing onride videos of it from way back and it always seemed like such a cool ride. With Parc Asterix retracking Zeus I really hope they will invest in Goudurix as well. Python at Efteling is so much better after the retrack so I hope they will do the same with Goudurix. New supports, new track and profiling and it could last for another 30 years.
@@davefroman4700 they’d be able to replace it, Parc Astérix has the money, I will be surprised if goudurix doesn’t get replaced by a vekoma tilt coaster with the butter fly element to pay homage
I think they did retrack this ride in about 2012. The only problem is that they used the original design, which means the same bad transitions remained. It needed something more along the lines of what Python at Efteling got where the track profile was changed to make it smoother
It's never gonna happen. They're gonna demolish it to make way for their next big coaster (supposedly around the end of the 2020s). At best they will upgrade the trains before that, but that'll be it.
What happened: Goudurix was the very first coaster Vekoma designed using Auto CAD and other computer aided tools (or at least one of the very first with Blue Hawk and French Revolution @ Lotte World, all three originally built in 1989) Obviously, Vekoma did not quite figure it out yet. Dare I say, no one did back then. B&M had not built their first ride then, Arrow was still sticking to their hand-drawn cookie-cutter designs, Mack was mostly building small e-powered, wild mouses & bobsleighs. The reason Parc Astérix is keeping Goudurix so far is... it still draws lots of crowds AWAY from other rides. Hence fast operations. Astérix gets 2+ hour lines sometimes on Tonnerre 2 Zeus and OzIris. So anything that can attract people away from those rides is good - even a 30+ year old janky Vekoma looper.
Vekoma might be the ultimate zero to hero story in the coaster industry. Also, I wish Sarah participated in the reviews too because I'm sure she would have had some pretty funny things to say about this one
I think it’s bad rail alignment that makes these so rough. When Vekoma replaced the track on Great Nor’easter they stated that they used their modern alignment and flexibility on their original 1200 track style. The only part that wasn’t replaced is from the station to the crest of the lift, and even at low speeds you can feel shakiness and the train shuffling side to side. But when you begin the first drop, it suddenly becomes very smooth
2:59 biiiiig mistake. As a multiple times Goudurix survivor, I can tell you that this is a completely different beast in the back and the front. My first ride on this was in the back row, and I was prepared for the worst after all the horror stories. When I exited, I just thought "huh. That was actually not too bad. A bit bumpy, but nowhere near as bad as I expected". But then, when I rode it in the front? All hell broke loose. It was so bad that the apple that was in my backpack (yes, I had to take my backpack with me in the train) was completely crushed beyond recognition after that second ride.
@@jhjansenhtpc Impressive! I myself am at 115 credits. It's indeed nowhere near the worst thing in the world (rode it again a few weeks ago), Furius Baco is 10x more brutal
I rode that thing last week just to get the credit and forget it. Turned out that I will not forget it whatsoever! After the first inversion, I was focussing on not reaching the station paralyzed. What puzzled me the most was that the GPs on the train screamed with joy and excitement while I was facing unimaginable adversity. Anyways, I higly recommend this ride! Afterwards, no other ride will give you the impression of being too rough or worn. Also, it is very scenic, especially at night.
Wel I can confirm that after getting into it last week without knowing what it was. First coaster ever that I don't want to do a second ride in (aside from the boring ones, but I wouldn't really mind riding those again).
I've also ridden Goudurix once but I was expecting the worst, but surprisingly, I got off thinking it was decent. I didn't find it to be too rough. Sure there are some moments where it can be rough, but I think IMO, its the most underrated coaster I've ridden. 6 or 7/10 for me. I would enjoy it more if it had vest restraints, or had the Python treatment, but as of now IMO, it's not too bad.
Same! There was one really nasty janky part I think in the final turnaround but the rest was just your standard rough old coaster for me. Definitely a better experience than when I went on Corkscrew at Alton Towers when I was just tall enough to ride and my head was perfectly positioned in the OTSRs to give me an hour-long headache...
We're you sitting in the back? I had a similar reaction on my first ride, but when I decided to go for a second round in the front like he did? Oofff...
Rode this in the mid-1990s. At the time it was the highlight of the park, as it was the most forceful and intense coaster they had, so got 3 or 4 rides in one day. After all these years I still have vivid memories of the head-banging - unless I really, really strained my neck, my ears would be on fire at the end of the ride, from banging repeatedly against the restraints. Still, I think it is an iconic ride, would like to repeat it again one day, hope they never tear it down.
@@tibotracks I feel like if vekoma does to it what it did at moreys pier and completely re does/overhauls the track as well new trains it could work. I’d just cause a lot. Personally though I’d think I’d be cool to see a modern vekoma replace it with a similar layout to pay tribute.
@@joelfitzsimmons3872 I rode Python in 2016 and both Shaman and Goudurix in 2021. Goudurix was by far he worst of the bunch and probably the worst steel coaster I have ever experienced. I kinda knew what to expect but I wanted the credit so bad. No sure if i was worth it.
Apparently, scraping it is complicated as Goudurix is one of the park's icon... It would be great to see it get more attention and care from the park tho
@@FastFoxFR here in America most people have never even heard of Asterix, the only reason I know about him is through a movie I watched in French class 😅
Actually, I don't think Parc Asterix (it's my home park) will tear it down anytime soon. This coaster is iconic, one of the symbole of the park. And it has become, in a weird way, even more iconic since it's world known as one of the worst coaster. Parc Asterix has actually been doing work on it these past few years, with ... retracking. But also with some paint work and other technical small changes. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make it smoother. But I do believe that if you know how to ride it (I've done it dozen of times), you can have a decent experience !
They're probably gonna want it to stay as true to its known state as possible. Like you said, the ride is beyond iconic and has become a meme in the coaster community. It's one of the most recognizable rides in the world, why would they get rid of something everyone has heard about? And for the record, I'm not dunking on Goudurix; I've ridden it before and I will do so again. With a smile on my face.
If this ride was retracked and given new trains I actually think it'd be a great ride Blue Hawk at Six Flags Over Georgia had the same situation, and now it's one of the most popular rides at that park (I rode it when it was Ninja and to say it was rough was a huge understatement)
I feel like Goudurix should get a remaster like imagine if they completely tear it down but bring back Vekoma to make it something like Lech Coaster where it tries to follow some of the original layout
Me and my Fiancée rode Goudurix yesterday (16/09/2023), and we didn't expect it to be sooo bad. I suffered a stroke last November, and when I got off this ride, I thought I was about to have another one. I was so dizzy I had to sit down till the spinning stopped and my head was sore with banging on the overhead restraint. One of my Fiancée ears was bleeding from an earring due to her head violently hitting the overhead restraint. I wish I had seen this video before going on. It would have saved us from a horrible trip.
@@bloglondonso Ride to Happiness???? What! That thing is one of the smoothest ones I've ever ridden. I did that one 6 times in a row. Gouderix is the most rough one I've ever seen - I thought I was going to break my neck. Never again!
Despite being rough i love this ride ! This is the big one who let me become an enthousiast 😁 To my mind it's smoother in the middle of the train and no Taylor you're wrong, this lift is LOUD AF when you are on the car with the chain catch dog 😂 Hope you enjoyed Toutatis this year ! 😉
So, I rode it for the first time ever TODAY and I honestly quite enjoyed it. This is coming from someone who hates slc’s (except for condor) . The head banging was fine. I only really noticed it in about 2 spots. I also rode it in the VERY BACK ROW. Not bad.
Rode this in it’s first season. Due to an unexpected change in the train schedule we arrived one hour before closing. The park was packed-long lines everywhere. Ran back to this coaster and the station was absolutely empty! The French general public was too intimidated to ride it! Sampled several rows until we were beaten into oblivion.
Mcfly & Carlito, some of the biggest french youtuber made a video last year on Goudurix, the goal was to stay on the ride for the longest time, some of the guys in the video stayed on this for 30 laps.
Maybe giving it the Python treatment would be a good idea for this ride. For those of you who are unfamiliar: Python is a Vekoma multi looper from the 80’s built in the Efteling. In 2018 it received brand new track from an external manufacturer and it has been running absolutely glass smooth since.
To be honest, I did not find it that bad. But my guess is that it is due to my height, I'm 198cm(6,6ft). And the old vekoma restraints are a little too small for me, so that means i literally get locked into my seat. And because of that I don't get bashed around that much, which helps a lot. The tracking is still terrible tho... At least it looks good!
As I've ridden it before, it absolutely destroyed my head and I was second to back row. Later on I ended up having a migraine but never the less I do like the layout and it is a classic. I wouldn't say no to a complete retracking and actually make the drop steeper and get new trains but if not then yeah scrap it and build a new modern coaster in time to come.
French here. Goudurix is an icon because it was there when the park opened in 1989. It was the star back then and still is today for some. Most people know how rough it is but it doesn't matter to them. Also, I think French ppl don't care as much as Americans if a ride is rough or not. We're just here to have fun, not to sit in an comfy chair like we're in a B&M. The ride is bumpy and all these people in the line know it, but it doesn't keep them from going again and again, as you can see by the size of the line. By the way, "Goudurix" is a character from an Astérix comic, and it translates by "taste for risk" ("goût du risque"). I think this name fits this coaster perfectly.
I’v ridden Goudurix twice in a day, and although I knew its bad reputation, I was quite surprised that I kind of enjoyed it. The scenery is great, the inversions are frightening and once you know you’ll be beaten, it’s easier to prepare for the headache 😂
Great layout, horrific everything else. It hurts, but im oddly inclined to reride because its one of the only coasters that has made me properly grey out
I have come to enjoy Blue Hawk at SFOG. The new trains do make a huge difference. I rode it when it was the Ninja and it was terrible. I wonder how similar this ride and Blue Hawk are.
When I went on this ride I expected it to be very rough, but boy was I not prepared. Foolishly I went for the back row (a walk-on!). Holy hell. What you didn't mention is the intense rattling, shaking, vibrating of the trains that works your brain like LeBron dribbles a basketball. As I was sitting in the final brake, having a moment to re-orient myself I was genuinely wondering if I'd be able to get up from the car under my own strength or if I'd actually need help. Yes, it was THIS bad... The layout is great though, and with a re-tracking or at least new trains it could be a decent ride and live on many more years. It's too iconic to just be scrapped
It was my cred number 69... not a pleasure xD This ride was the Vekoma take on Arrow's loopers, but failed to convince. Layout is great, but those old school Vekomas were just junk. Here is the list of actions taken on the coaster: - 1988: Goudurix is built with design problems recognized by Vekoma - 2000: Trains are modified and various tests of different types of wheels - 2007: The electric Process is totaly replaced - 2007: The station is themed giant Drakkar - 2009: The rails are scraped, cleaned and repainted - 2010: The chassis of both trains are replaced by new (that are heavier) - 2011: Attempting to change the wheel axles - 2013: Retrack and reparirs of several damaged rail parts Yes, it was "retracked" 10 years ago. However, what it needs now is a full retrack, same as happened to Python @ Efteling, wich replaced the track from drop to brakes with the new track design, made with their new building technique.
I really like Goudurix! I think it's smoother in the back of the train, strangely but it's definitely nowhere near as intense there. Definitely still prefer it in the front.
This thing is pure hell! I got into it last week without knowing what it was. Half-way I started to worry if I was going to break my neck. First coaster ever that I don't want to ride again, not because it's boring but because it felt this unsafe and bad. Toutatis on the other hand was absolutely amazing! Very close to Ride to Happiness, which is my "gold standard" so far.
This coaster is a complete mess, my grandpa worked as a construction worker during parc Astérix contraction and they gathered everyone to see goudurix first test (or one of the first). It got stucked in the butterfly loop, like no rollback or anything, it got stuck making a big noise in the first transition due to how bad it was designed. 😅
I’m a Parisian and always go to the Parc Astérix. Goudurix is a character in one of the comics (play on words with “goût du risque”, like with every name in the comics) and wasn’t created for the ride. I always do it because it’s fun to get messed up, but yeah, it’s intense. It gives you 4 times gravity force and I grey out on the loops. It’s uncomfortable just like you said and it gives you a half hour headache and makes you sleepy. The park will keep it because PEOPLE LOVE IT exactly because of how bad it is. Personally, I never miss it when I visit. The people waiting in line aren’t naive, they’re masochist French maniacs like me.
It would be cool if Sarah joins in on future reviews. It would add more to have you two debating back and forth, but it would also add another opinion and humor.
I can imagine that the roughness varies greatly depending on the temperature or the person who is running the train technically. During my rides I found the ride quite comfortable for an MK-1200. But I rode it in October when the temperatures were rather cool. In the summer heat, it might drive completely differently. I also had the same phenomenon at Dragon Khan in Portaaventura. Many rant about the roller coaster and call for it to be demolished, but I found it super smooth on my rides in November.
Pro tip if you are above 1.85m: Make sure to actively keep your head off the head rest, the cushioning might not cover the top few centimeters. Hit the back of my head in the butterfly, and from that point the rest of the ride was just making sure it doesn't happen again, nor anything similar. Anyway, went into there knowing what to expect, got the credit, and after that I at least could still take 3 more rides on Zeus before my head told me it's enough of any type of rattling coaster (and Zeus is perfectly fine imo for a Woodie)
Once I used to just keep my head detached from the seat to avoid the head bumping, but I don't know what they changed with the trains or seats but now I don't think it's that bad. I've done only one SLC and it was way worst.
The fact is that if this got the blue hawk transitioning smoothing treatment and vest trains, this would be a great coaster. Pacing and elements are spot on.
You can also add Viper at SFGA, The Great American Scream Machine at SFGA and Drachen Fire at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and the Manhattan Express at New York New York Resort in Las Vegas. Btw, both the Viper and ME were both manufactured by TOGO. Would love to add this to my coaster cred but probably won't make it out of the states.
4 Coaster Battle for the worst: Goudurix vs. Original Ninja (SFOG) vs. Ninja (SFST.L) vs. Vekoma SLCs I'm kind of worried for the sheep since there doesn't seem to be a net under the track so I can imagine something might fly off the ride and injure or kill a sheep.
The most tragic thing about Goudurix is that it really does look like there's a decent ride underneath all that jank. Like they could easily replace it with a coaster that has the exact same layout, only differences being better heartlining on the track profile and modern vest restraints on the train, and it could easily go from being one of the worst coasters ever to an at least above average one.
I have not ridden that since 2004 - for reasons discussed 😂 Having said that - I would be sad to see it go because it is super iconic! Also to mention, it has some seats which are not aaaas bad. I still gave up on riding it 🤷🏼♂️
Lol after riding a few torturous SLCs and Boomerangs around Europe I decided to never ride an old Vekoma ever again... the only exception for me are giant invert boomerangs (only ridden Stunt Fall) which for some odd reason, I actually found surprisingly smooth.
I rode goudurix this spring at parc asterix, it was fantastic. I loved it and it wasn't rough at all, I dont know what you're getting at. Goudurix does not deserve the terrible reputation it has, it's rather smooth. if you're at parc asterix, please ride this!
I find it amazing, no headache and find it very comfortable. I find this review a bit exagerated. I didn't grey out in any element despite highly expecting it.
A) I didn’t think it was that bad! Still a 4.5/10 but not a 2 B) they’re getting a spinning coaster in 2025 and a multi dimension coaster in 2028 (maybe) so Goudurix is here to stay!
I rode it in 2016 in the back. It was fairly brutal and I only rode it once. Blue Hawk was a lot more enjoyable with the new trains. For me it was the first coaster in the park since we were staying at the on site hotel and the entrance/exit is right behind it. I highly recommend the hotel and the buffet was really good (not the typical park food you would expect and they had a really nice wine selection).
I rode it two days ago with all the fear in my eyes , I was assigned the back row and …. It wasn’t rough lol. It was way better than any SLC or standard vekomas
For some reason I always love Taylors bad reviews, possibly because he always finds the best in everything, and approaches everything with a positive attitude. So when he gives it a bad score, you know its, really, really, bad.
I rode this ride in late May of last year. I really didn’t think it was all too bad. Yes, the transitions are truly awful, but I kept my head back the entire time and experienced no head banging whatsoever (well maybe except after the brake run, I did hurt my neck on the turn, but still). I really hope they can keep this ride for a bit longer, maybe give it new trains and everything. That butterfly inversion, while it does look awkward and pretty painful, looks very unique, and I wish more coasters (especially B&M’s) used this element more often.
I am going to Parc Asterix in a few weeks and am not looking forward to riding this. But everything for the plus one. And I want to know if it's worse than Bandit.
I rode it only once 15 years ago. But, never again! He looks impressive. It is a 35 year old icon for the park. But it is a treacherous torture. If Parc Asterix would like to keep it (for nostalgic reasons) I suggest that they order a completely new clone with upgrades. (just like Efteling did with Phyton, their double loop corckscrew coaster from 1981) !
I would love to see it be removed, and then brought back, but in the newer generation style of VEKOMA. Something on the lines of Fønix, Lech, or Abyssus.
I thought Goudurix would forever be my least fave steel coaster, ever since I rode it in the 90s. I even rode it twice, front/back because I was convinced that no ride could be THAT bad, it must've just been a bad seat the first time. It wasn't, of course. The whole ride was bad. But then it happened. This spring, I was in Athens and went to Allou Fun Park. There they have a small coaster called Loop-it and even though it's a small, short ride, it manages to cram all of Goudurix's pain into just a few seconds of absolute torture. And I have a really high tolerance for rough coasters - hence the second ride on Goudurix (as well as a few others). But Loop-it nearly killed me. Because there was no queue (literally nobody else was waiting to ride), the operator told me that I could ride again. I said, "WHY?" The shoulder bars slammed me back and forth five times in quick succession in the inversion, hard enough to nearly knock my glasses off. Both my ears were beet red and sore from the pummelling they took in the rest of the ride and I had a massive headache for the next two days. I legit thought I might've gotten a concussion. Not only was Loop-it the only coaster I've refused to re-ride when offered, it's also the only model of coaster that if I saw another one at a park, I'd skip that one, too. Credit be damned, it's just not worth it.
I did it some days ago in the last row… Never ever again I will ride this… once is enough. My 13 year old soon would have done it again, but nope, not with me. And I rode a lot of coasters, also Vekoma SLC like Blue Tornado in Gardaland. But Parc Asterix has also one of my favorit coasters: Toutatis 🤩
I know most old gen vekomas are bad but I have an slc in a park about 30 minutes away and while I haven’t ridden it I’ve heard it’s actually smooth or at least not rough
They keep Goudrix because it was the first major coaster for the park and an Icon in France. I would suggest a re-track by CSM like Efteling has done with Python, and then add new software and trains on it. The new track of Python has been Heartlined, so they could do the same with Goudrix. Goudrix was the first full cirquit coaster Vekoma designed themselves, without Arrow Dynamics involved.
I just rode this for the first time. Got put in the front row. I'm 6'5". My neck cracked painfully during the ride and still hurts the following day. I've never been in as much pain from a ride as from this one.
Looks like a 10/10 to me. If I ever go to this park, I'll try to ride as many times as I can. I love all types of rollercoasters, rough or smooth, including this one.
Imo the smoothest MK1200 in the world is 'Millenium' at Fantasy Island, it's a 150ft (110 drop) with 3 inversions and it's superrrrr smooth, seriously. Also that park has the worlds biggest SLC The Osyssey, which is the joint second biggest invert in the world, joint with Banshee just behind Alpengeist. It's not super smooth but it's better than standard SLCs and it's forceful af
I hope one day either they made a total retracking, like new rails and profiling, or destroy it but replace it by a good B&M or Intamin looper with a layout paying homage to Goudurix, with perhaps an updated butterfly, Intamin would be able to do this kind of thing. Especially since CDA (owner of the park) has already ordered them 4 roller coasters for their parks (Objectif Mars, Kondaa, Toutatis and Mahuka), why not a fifth? :) But given the investments already made for Toutatis, it won't be any time soon! And then there's the case of Tonerre 2 Zeus, which is getting worse and worse and deserves an RMC retrack.
They should give goudurix the same treatment as Python at Efteling and give it either Vekoma vest restraints or SunKid trains (trains for vekoma/arrow loopers that have T bars). To fix the awkward transitions in and out of the batwing they could add some nice bunny hopps before and after the batwing so the transition isn't so long that it's basically just a slightly tilted straight track that slowly banks 180 degrees lol
I thought it’s days were numbered when I rode it over 20 years ago. It’s hard to believe that it is still standing and still operating. I cannot even imagine how much worse it might have gotten over the years. It was my worst coaster until Outer Limits came along and bashed my head so bad that it ended my day early and ruined my trip.
With the improvements made to Zeus, I'd bet good money on this coaster getting the new trains from Vekoma pretty soon. Although tbh I'm really surprised it hasn't already happened!
@@Danrarbc they did in 2012/2013. Not a full retrack or proper retrack like we'd like but they rework the main inversion....even just after this retrack it was not so good, 1p years ago
I rode it a dozen times, last time being 3 weeks ago. And yeah, it's painful... You can experience sore neck if you compensate and headache if you don't.
I agree with everything you just said, it has seen numerous modifications, new trains and a complete re-tracking, only thing left is recycle it, give all that steel another shot.
the the further back is actually A LOT smoother because if your at the front your pushed into the awful transitions, i’ve ridden goudurix well over 100 times in all the rows in both the trains and the further back you go the smoother
So... based on other comments this thing has apparently been retracked in some places???? IDK. I really hope it gets the Nor'easter treatment at least with a complete retracking, in house, by Vekoma with updated profiling and new trains. The ride whether you like it or not is likely iconic in France, the same way something like Millenium force, Top Thrill Dragster, Fury 325, Coney Island Cyclone, or Kingda Ka is to the US viewers.
you know something is bad if zamperla volares and the worst vekoma SLCs are in a better light. such a shame this layout looks awesome. also this video removed me of how bad taylor used to hate la ronde back in the day, the amount of passive aggression and straight up funny chaos that taylors goes off on.
Best bet is if they want to still keep this coaster, they need to: New Vekoma Trains Massive Re-Profiling of track (smoothing out the transitions) New Paint Job
The ride seems to have turns that turn in increments rather than a nice, fluid parabolic turn. Like, "OK, we want to turn 90 degrees to the left, so we'll have it turn 25 degrees with this small radius, then we'll turn it another 40 degrees with a somewhat larger radius, then do the remaining 25 degrees with the small radius again."
Ninja at SFOG, very similar with its layout and elements like the butterfly was also bad till they gave it the new trains and restraints. Do you think this could also be much better with those vests or is the problem more with the profiling than the headbanging?
Have you ever thought of reviewing Blue Hawk Taylor? I personally thought it was fun. I rode it in the front, thought it was smooth. Rode it in the back, just a tad bumpy. Unfortunately, I don't think my experience on Gouderix would be as my one on Blue Hawk. This ride genuinely looks rough. If I'm ever in Paris, I hope the only time I have to ride this is for the credit
I used to ride every single coaster in every park, even if I knew it was going to be rough, but anymore, I avoid Vekoma and old Arrow loopers like the plague.
I've never ridden it, but somehow Goudurix is so iconic to me. I remember seeing onride videos of it from way back and it always seemed like such a cool ride. From an engineering prospective? The concrete footers may be toast in places as well. Especially the ones under water.

Exactly that.
Oofff...
@@AVdE10000 same mistake for me, even on 2nd row i still got hurt everywhere lmao
Petition to get this ride retracked cause I believe this is one of the most unique and forceful layouts out there
They've already tried to retrack it, but it was a fail 😅. And the ride is still very popular (there is often a 40 min wait or more for it)
@@tibotracks I feel like if vekoma does to it what it did at moreys pier and completely re does/overhauls the track as well new trains it could work. I’d just cause a lot. Personally though I’d think I’d be cool to see a modern vekoma replace it with a similar layout to pay tribute.
@@ArchJ17 Yes ! That's what I think too ! But I think Parc Astérix won’t because the public won’t see it as a new coaster...
goudurix was the first coaster in this park, its emblematic, you dont need to change it
Blue Hawk at Six Flags Over Georgia is literally this retracked, and it's one of the most fun coasters I've ever been on.
I think that if this gets the same treatment as Python in efteling did this could be a great ride
You’d have to be careful with that. Shaman at Gardaland got the same treatment and people have said that it’s worse than it was before
@@joelfitzsimmons3872 I rode Python in 2016 and both Shaman and Goudurix in 2021. Goudurix was by far he worst of the bunch and probably the worst steel coaster I have ever experienced. I kinda knew what to expect but I wanted the credit so bad. No sure if i was worth it.
@@joelfitzsimmons3872 Shaman's retracking was done by a different company than Python's, so keep that in mind.
@@BAKU2K2 oh yeah you’re right. My bad!
That’s probably because Shaman’s track wasn’t replaced by CSM, the company that replaced Python’s track.
Apparently, scraping it is complicated as Goudurix is one of the park's icon... It would be great to see it get more attention and care from the park tho
I think this should get a full B&M retracking or something because the layout looks really good. It’s just the track profiling couldn’t be any worse…
Goudurix is named after a character from Asterix comic book. You can even see him on the entrance sign.
Taylor has shown thoughout the entirety of his review of Parc Astérix that he's never heard of the comic
@@FastFoxFR It's just an American thing, during his travel through Europe there were so many other things they were completely unaware of.
goudurix is a French pun (goût du risque)
@@FastFoxFR here in America most people have never even heard of Asterix, the only reason I know about him is through a movie I watched in French class 😅
@@Sylv1gaminggoudurix is the name of a comic character
Actually, I don't think Parc Asterix (it's my home park) will tear it down anytime soon. This coaster is iconic, one of the symbole of the park. And it has become, in a weird way, even more iconic since it's world known as one of the worst coaster. Parc Asterix has actually been doing work on it these past few years, with ... retracking. But also with some paint work and other technical small changes. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make it smoother. But I do believe that if you know how to ride it (I've done it dozen of times), you can have a decent experience !
Maybe they should rename it goududouleur instead then.
Can you “teach” me how to ride it? I’ll be at the park for the first time in a few days 😂
If this ride was retracked and given new trains I actually think it'd be a great ride
Blue Hawk at Six Flags Over Georgia had the same situation, and now it's one of the most popular rides at that park
(I rode it when it was Ninja and to say it was rough was a huge understatement)
I feel like Goudurix should get a remaster like imagine if they completely tear it down but bring back Vekoma to make it something like Lech Coaster where it tries to follow some of the original layout
Soooo basically RMC it but for steel coasters?
@@kirbysuperstaruhh3769 more like how GCI is doing Zambezi Zinger where they follow some of the original layout but also add their own spin to it
I legitimately laughed out loud when you called that drop a "ramp”. 😂 Very accurate. Never heard that before! This might be the best review yet!!!
Jesus… now I’m scared to death! I don’t think the credit is worth it 😂
If I thought Ride to Happiness was rough, I’ll hate this thing 🤣
@@bloglondonso Ride to Happiness???? What! That thing is one of the smoothest ones I've ever ridden. I did that one 6 times in a row. Gouderix is the most rough one I've ever seen - I thought I was going to break my neck. Never again!
Despite being rough i love this ride ! This is the big one who let me become an enthousiast 😁
To my mind it's smoother in the middle of the train and no Taylor you're wrong, this lift is LOUD AF when you are on the car with the chain catch dog 😂
Hope you enjoyed Toutatis this year !
Sampled several rows
until we were beaten into oblivion.
Mcfly & Carlito, some of the biggest french youtuber made a video last year on Goudurix, the goal was to stay on the ride for the longest time, some of the guys in the video stayed on this for 30 laps.
31 laps*
The GP might see it good if they ride defensively and because it is a big old school Vekoma.
It was my cred number 69... not a pleasure xD
This ride was the Vekoma take on Arrow's loopers, but failed to convince. Layout is great, but those old school Vekomas were just junk.
Here is the list of actions taken on the coaster:
- 1988: Goudurix is built with design problems recognized by Vekoma
- 2000: Trains are modified and various tests of different types of wheels
- 2007: The electric Process is totaly replaced
- 2007: The station is themed giant Drakkar
- 2009: The rails are scraped, cleaned and repainted
- 2010: The chassis of both trains are replaced by new (that are heavier)
- 2011: Attempting to change the wheel axles
- 2013: Retrack and reparirs of several damaged rail parts
Yes, it was "retracked" 10 years ago.
Goudurix is named after the French phrase Goût du risque (taste of risk), but it should be named after the phrase taste of pain (Goût de la douleur)!
Taylor. I like when you add a little comedy to your narrative like in this video. Keep it coming. I love watching your stuff
I'm 6'5 and rode this yesterday. It jolted my neck around so much that I heard it crack and I'm still hurting a day later
This video is absolutely hilarious. The tone of your voice from the getgo told me all I needed to know.
Why were you manufacturer By Togo?
4 Coaster Battle for the worst: Goudurix vs. Original Ninja (SFOG) vs. Ninja (SFST.L) vs. Vekoma SLCs
I'm kind of worried for the sheep since there doesn't seem to be a net under the track so I can imagine something might fly off the ride and injure or kill a sheep.
I’ve been waiting for this review, his reviews on bad roller coasters (bandit being one example) are the best ones in my opinion
Have Vekoma Nor'easter it.
I have not ridden that since 2004 - for reasons discussed 😂
Having said that - I would be sad to see it go because it is super iconic!
Still a 4.5/10 but not a 2
B) they’re getting a spinning coaster in 2025 and a multi dimension coaster in 2028 (maybe) so Goudurix is here to stay!
That’s why I like his videos as well.
I thought it was very good when I rode it. Yes quite rough but very intense and looks spectacular
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
I rode this in 2021, and was near the back of the train. Amazingly I barely found it rough at all. Maybe I just got a lucky ride!
It wasn’t rough in 2015 either
A modern Vekoma like Lech Coaster or Fønix could do wonders with that space. It'd be nice if they kept the colour scheme of Goudurix though.
I learned a lot about coaster elements this video! Nice.
I said, "WHY?"
The shoulder bars slammed me back and forth five times in quick succession in the inversion, hard enough to nearly knock my glasses off.
0:29 da frick is that?! 😵
even thought ur not rly doing parodies anymore, we need one for this
They keep Goudrix because it was the first major coaster for the park and an Icon in France.
A new gen vekoma with a similarly inversion-centric ride experience would be a great fit for this place of land.
I’d love to see a modern Vekoma take on this kind of rid but a bit taller with a handful of airtime pops
They already did a retrack few years ago...they just need to ditch it.
@@nicolaso3183 No they didn't.
@@Danrarbc they did in 2012/2013. Not a full retrack or proper retrack like we'd like but they rework the main inversion....even just after this retrack it was not so good, 1p years ago
Going down the drop be like: "This is the captain, BRACE FOR IMPACT!!"
I rode it a dozen times, last time being 3 weeks ago. And yeah, it's painful... You can experience sore neck if you compensate and headache if you don't.
This has to be my favourite review of a roller coaster, cause I was laughing a lot from some of the commentary xD Such a funny review
I agree that it’s a crappy ride, but what fascinated me is the fact that the Asterix general public clearly love it! Even after they get off it! 🤷♂️
Imagine how awesome a Eurofighter would look there. It'd be a good ride, AND it would look just as good.
Or how about an Infinity Coaster.
The sheep where to keep the grass down btw. Pretty standard thing to do in Europe.
Its a piece of garbage and yet you manage to make your pot so smooth. I will never understand how y'all do it. Love you guys.
*pov
The entrance to the batwing looks insane
Goudurix is like your typical Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 roller coaster if you look at the smoothness.
So... based on other comments this thing has apparently been retracked in some places????
Best bet is if they want to still keep this coaster, they need to:
New Vekoma Trains
Massive Re-Profiling of track (smoothing out the transitions)
New Paint Job
The ride seems to have turns that turn in increments rather than a nice, fluid parabolic turn. Like, "OK, we want to turn 90 degrees to the left, so we'll have it turn 25 degrees with this small radius, then we'll turn it another 40 degrees with a somewhat larger radius, then do the remaining 25 degrees with the small radius again."
Ninja at SFOG, very similar with its layout and elements like the butterfly was also bad till they gave it the new trains and restraints. Do you think this could also be much better with those vests or is the problem more with the profiling than the headbanging?
Imagine a Lech Coaster clone at the place.. it would fit perfectly at this setting
Most painful I’ve ever ridden. I agree 100% with your review.
