    I remember living in Phoenix in 1993 and on the day the Suns lost to the Bulls in June....it was like somebody dropped a bomb on the city that day. None the less, a very fun team to follow that year.

      That was the first Barkley play which cost his team dearly. The other was '97 WCF and trotting towards Stockton when he was shooting the 3 to win the series.

    Ugh... The Suns were my all time favorite team from the mid-80s until the Nash years and they damn well should have been better... Especially that '93 year.. But Thunder said it loud and clear: "... we didn't even practice.. we'd show up to shoot around in flip-flops and shorts"
    ... Meanwhile Jordan was punching Wil Purdue for not setting hard enough screens and being threatened by Cartwright for late game post possessions... Barkley and the Sun's were talented.. Jordan and the Bulls were driven..
    Paxson said it aloud: after the Cavs and the Knicks the Bulls were actually *happy* to see the Sun's... They were that soft... 😖

    • @zerimar26
      @zerimar26 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The odd thing about that series is that the Suns didn't win a home game in the 1993 NBA Finals. They played well all season long to get the home court advantage and they didn't take advantage of it in the Finals.

    • @mams1701
      @mams1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@zerimar26 they really only played desperation ball. In the 1st round they had 3 elimination games against a underwhelming #8 seed Laker squad and were pathetic - losing home court and only managing to survive.
      In the WCF they couldn't close out Seattle at home and Barkley had to go berserk just to win a elimination game 7.
      The Spurs were always soft and it STILL took a buzzer beater in game 6 for the Suns to win..
      This is why the Bulls basically wiped them out.
      The Suns never played Defense until they had no choice and Westphal was too much of a nice guy to make Barkley work hard where he didn't want to..
      West and Chambers were far to docile by that point and Miller was a overweight rookie with great timing for an undersized center.
      Thunder and Ainge loved the three too much. Thunder actually played better under Riley on those late 90s Heat teams paied with Hardaway and Lenard in the back court..
      KJ and Frankie were good but KJ was losing it by then.
      And Cedric did what he could but was alone because Dumas was - AND STILL IS (arrested recently for stealing school equipment) a complete loser..
      That's why when '94 and' -95 hit they got wiped out by the Rockets twice after taking big leads.. They didn't play unless they were up against the wall and never had a killer instinct.

      @zerimar26 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zerimar26 - I loved the Suns up until I stopped watching the NBA altogether in '06 when it became unwatchable due to going so soft... So I know quite a bit about it.. Just annoys me they never learned through all those losses... Sad for Barkley, KJ, Thunder and Tom. Ced got more chances but everyone else was done or never was... 👍

      @whats_holden_up 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mams1701 I agree with the point you brought up of Phoenix being undisciplined. Which is a shame because the Suns were the only west team on paper that were good enough to beat the Bulls in the finals from the 90s. The Suns had talent but they didn't have championship characteristics. Which is why they could never win it all from 93-95. Only if the Rockets had beaten the Sonics cause they probably could've beaten Phoenix and Chicago in 93.

    "We used to show up at shoot-arounds in flip-flops and jean-shorts, we were that good."
    Uh... i think that's probably why you guys lost in those finals, because if you have the attitude that you don't need to suit-up, go hard, and really work in practice -- that translates to how you'll perform in the biggest moments in the actual game.
    People in tough situations RARELY ever "rise to the occasion" in those moments. You don't "rise to the occasion" ... you SINK to the level of your training. Your training, that muscle-memory that allows you to be automatic in tough, pressure filled scenarios is what separates the triumphant, from the tragic.
    So, if you have an attitude of "well, we're so good we don't really need to go 100% and train the way we actually play", then you're setting yourself up for failure. Because when it's crunch-time and everything you worked for is on the line, you better have put the work in, because (barring some freak/lucky occurrence) it's THAT level of commitment to improve - even when you're among the best - that makes all the difference.

    The 1992-1995 Phoenix Suns teams were LOADED and deep with talent. However, I could understand why they didn't win it in 1993 (Michael Jordan). But there's no reason in the world why the Suns shouldn't have been able to win a title in 1994 or 1995 when there was no MJ.

    I wonder if Michael Jordan ever showed up in flip flops to practice...apparently Dan Majerle is good enough to do that and not practice, too.
    It’s no wonder why the Suns flopped the next two years, because talent without discipline only takes a team so far.

      MJ dropped over 40 per game against the Suns in the final. No one in the Suns can contain MJ. Majerle just ignorant and lazy.

    • @lamelama22
      @lamelama22 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davenue3428 It bothered Jordan a lot when KJ was guarding him instead of Majerle / Ainge / Johnson, he had real trouble against him in G3, though Jordan still got 40 b/c it went 3 OT. They had to stop that though b/c the Bulls adapted to that after G3 as it generated a mismatch elsewhere they could exploit, and initially they kept Jordan guarding Majerle but when they switched and put Jordan on KJ too Jordan shut him down. To be fair to the Suns though, there weren't many players that could contain MJ for a game, and probably none that could contain him for a full series. If I remember correctly, John Starks for the NY Knicks in the '93 Eastern Conference finals shut Jordan down completely for the first 3 games, and that is apparently the best anyone has ever done against him.
