@@duttyluke Thanks again Pete for the kinds word and encouragement. Welcome to the community. I look forward to learning more about your projects in Cakewalk. All the best! 😊
Is it possible for you to do a step-by-step vocal track when it comes to harmonizing vocals in the best way possible? I'm focused on vocals at the moment and wanna get rid of the white noise while stacking vocals and etc. Once again, thank you for this video!
It’s funny you mention that. I’m in the process of finishing a new song and it will be featured in a new series that will focus on recording and mixing vocals in Cakewalk. The first video should be hopefully uploaded next week.
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Every Cakewalk tutorial "for beginners" I've found has not been for absolute beginners. They all gloss over details that I guess seem obvious or intuitive to them, but that leave folks like me scratching our heads, getting overwhelmed and giving up which I've done multiple times, so thank you for this and all your tutorials!
Hey Bob. Thank you for taking time to watch it! I'm glad that it helped. Yes sometimes it's easy to forget to slow down and break it into baby steps. Let me know if you need any help or if there is anything specific that you don't understand. I created a shorter tutorials series called Caketorials which focus on beginner steps to getting started. I will continue to create longer tutorials also. Thank you again and all the best!
The only cakewalk tutorial I've been able to follow yet! Learning new DAWS is typically a big challenge for me. Thank you for the slow and gentle/realistic instruction!
Thank you Lydia for the kind comment. I am glad that the video is helpful. Yes learning DAWs can be challenging but with patience and practice you will be recording, mixing and releasing music soon. Please let me know if you have any questions. I have 100s of videos on Cakewalk and home studio recording. What I don't know I will research. All the best!
Wow! This is such an excellent resource! I just started working with Cakewalk, and the learning curve was/is outrageous! I'm new to music in general, kinda, and the most I've ever done was make a few songs on BandLab. I just wanted you, as a creator, to know that: I have a hard time learning new things a lot of the time because I don't do well with video content. I usually need an article or a couple of infographics. But I will avoid video a lot. The transcript and the chapters that came alongside your video were excellent and extremely helpful. It's hard to find content that isn't video on subjects like this. Sometimes my brain overloads when I'm watching a video. Idek why. It just does. Lol. So, thank you, sincerely. Your content is awesome; not only is it structured, I think you made an overwhelming task (for me, at least) seem more attainable👌.
Hello and welcome to the channel! I thank you for the comment and I am glad that the video was helpful. I can understand how videos can be overwhelming sometimes especially when they are fast paced. A while back I started (but never finished, maybe one day) a ebook to dive into Cakewalk and home studio tips. I wanted it to be written, instructional and entertaining while also linking to videos for those that learn well visually. Please feel free to share questions when they arise. I don't know it all but I love to learn what I don't know. Al lthe best!
Thank you so much for taking the time, care and gentle approach for absolute beginners. Im completely new to using a DAW and have been trying to learn but none of them had me relaxed and able to keep up until i found this one! I completed the "test youtube" file along with you successfully!
Hello Rae. Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you were able to follow along and complete your first test project in Cakewalk, please keep me updated with your project and any questions that may arise. All the best!

JustDaNorm, very very great above Cakewalk video for a beginner like me. I had no clue on how to set anything up in this DAW. Now I can put an audio track in and record to it, then add an instrument track, then go back and listen to the playback. This was a great video to get me started in the right direction. Your video was slow so I could follow along with it. Some other videos I have seen are good, but the information was givin so fast for me to follow along with, so I couldn't learn anything. This will be a learning process for me, but with your videos I am sure to make great progress. Thanks again and I am very happy I found your channel. Tim
I really appreciate your hard work you've put into this. I'm getting a better understanding this time than back when I read line by line in a sonar book.

Do I need output connected like speaker or amp on the audio interface for a sound? Im wanting to hear only the laptop built in speaker on the program while recording but no sound.. thanks
Hello. You don’t need to plug up speakers. You do need your headphones plugged into interface. Make sure the inteface is recognized and enabled in Cakewalk Check your interface for headphone volume control. You also may have a mix/balance knob. Make sure it’s set in the middle or closer to computer sound. Let me know what type of interface you have so I can provide more specific instructions. All the best!
Thanks for this. Absolute beginner here, having just bought an interface and installed Cakewalk. I'm a bit vague on what you did around adding a track (fingered bass). You commented that two tracks ended up the same sound, so you made some changes. I got lost at that point! A few times you quickly glossed over some steps without explaining slowly what you were doing. I managed to record a sound, but through my headphones there's playback sound only through one ear.

Thank you so so so much for this video. I wanna learn how to produce music, I know I have a long way to go but at least this is helping me to start. Other videos I saw about Cakewalk where too complicated and full of information. This is my first time using a DAW and at least now I know how to get started. Once again, thank you, I'll check out your other videos too as soon as possible.
Hey Dasha, Congratulations on taking the first steps to music production. Thank you for watching. I’m glad it helped. Let me know if you have any questions. All the best!
Much better than anything else I have found so far but still difficult at times. I went stop start and copied every step but then the vocal playback was coming back to me at very fast speed so I sound like tweety pie. Then I could not hear my virtual keyboard even though the sound was registering on the DAW. I know I am at beginner level (Cakewalk for dummies minus 10), but trying to understand the terminology etc in the tech environment after years of the old way. Probably something simple in the settings to adjust but still torture (sorry, long day) to be continually trying to problem solve. Thank you for your work, will try again tomorrow.
Hey Joan. Thank for taking time to watch the tutorial. Yes using any daw can be difficult at first. Take it one step at a time. Hmm if your vocal is coming back at a different speed. It could be the sample rate of your interface vs sample rate of Cakewalk. It could also be the latency is set to fast or it could even be joh cpu usage. I would suggest checking these areas. Try restarting computer then try to record again. If you still have trouble let me know.
For the keyboard controller. If you are not getting any sound but you see a signal on the track in Cakewalk. It could be that the input echo is disabled. It could also be a driver issue or possibly the input is not set to correct channel. Let me know if any of this helps. If not I can offer some more suggestions. Here is a video to help with troubleshooting Cakewalk th-cam.com/video/Zen0T252TRM/w-d-xo.html

Can you please help me I think my Audio Interface is a generic one I don't know if that means anything can you please help me 3 days I've been trying to get my studio equipment up and running
Sure. What kind of interface is it? Have you checked to see if there are drivers for it. It might work with asio but you may have to change to wasapi or wdm etc under edit preferences driver settings.

Something I'd like to do is play along with a recorded track (in this case Dexter Gordon Days of Wine and Roses) but I'd like to slow the tempo down because I can't keep up with Dex's tempo. Easy in Garage Band, But I can't figure out what to do with Cakewalk. Can you help please. Thanks in advance, Jake
hi dear , i promised you questions here i am .. its about bouncing to clips.. once this is done what happens / what do we do with the original clips? and what if and can we modify the original clips , what effect on the clip to which they were bounce ? thanks for answering , regards
Bouncing to clips is used to merge multiple audio clips into one clip. It doesn’t delete the original clips. It’s just a way to make the tracks easier to see especially when you do a lot of start stop or overlap clips while recording. Bouncing also helps free up computer memory usage. I have also found that when using samples or loops. Bouncing to clips helps the loop lock in to the project.

This is so awesome, thanks for the tutorial, was looking for something really oriented towards beginners. Definitely need to check out your playlists! If I understood well you can add drums without a midi controller just like you did with the piano by using the normal PC keyboard right?
Hey Nico MCH. Thank you for taking time to watch the tutorials. Cakewalk is a awesome versatile software. Yes you can use your computer keyboard and/or mouse to record drums or even use the step sequencer to program it. I just started a series focusing on 8 Ways to Record Drums. Hey Pete. Thank your for the comment. I’m glad that the video is helpful. Please let me know if you have specific questions or need more expansion on something.
Hey Badger. Hope all is well! There a few things to check. 1st make sure your midi controller is plugged up and drivers are loaded 2nd Make sure your midi or instrument track input is set to the controller with the output set to the soft synth you are using. 3rd try adding an instrument track which is an audio and mid track combined. See if you get signal that way. Also check your controller is set correctly. Some boards you have to switch from midi to usb. Hi. Help. Iv downloaded cakewalk. It's a nightmare to use. But that's just me. Then when I tried to shut off the program it would not go it kept saying. It's not activated?? But no info on doing so ". I had to turn computer off. And it took five goes to manage that. I went to bandlab to sign in and it said I'm not known. Not us my email. Although I had set it up to get cakewalk. Can you help. Please.
I am sorry you are having issues with installation and using Cakewalk. You mention bandlab didn't recognize your email. Did you download bandlab assistant? You can create a new account then sign into Bandlab to activate Cakewalk. If that doesn't work might want to submit ticket to Bandlab and explain the issue. Hope this helps.
@@JustDaNorm thank my friend. I messed about. Managed to activate it and iv now downloaded on another computer as well so so far it's working. Just got to figure out how to use it now lol. Again thanks.
I got this to open my bundle songs off cakewalk 7, it opens and all the wav files and singing play, but the instruments don't, I did use some sound fonts for instruments so if i havn't got them now how can i change them to other available instruments ? I can't do it, it's driving me nuts
Hey Neon Skyline welcome to the channel! I have two solutions for you. First if you want to maintain the original instruments that you used in Cakewalk 7 you can either freeze the midi tracks which will make them audio which will contain the sounds you used or you can bounce them down to audio tracks then save project as bundle. Second if you are ok with changing the original instruments used this is possible by inserting an instrument provided with Cakewalk by Bandlab right into the instrument track or add it to an audio track then route midi output to the instrument you chose. I know this might seem confusing. Let me know if this helps or if you need more help. Thanks for watching!

Does you computer recognize the interface when you plug it in via USB? If your computer recognizes it and you are able to get sound from TH-cam, Windows etc. then there may be an issue with the setup of Cakewalk. Sometimes interfaces do not work with asio setting. There is a free software called ASIO 4 all that will help with this problem. You might also consider reinstalling driver, plug up interface into a different USB port. What interface do you have?
If you have an audio interface or a keyboard with a audio interface built in that’s will do the job. If you are not using usb/midi then I would use 1/4 inch cables to connect to interface to record audio.
Thanks for the vid bro, I have seen 3 others before this one, but all of them having so much information, that after or even while watching the video I somehow felt like not being able and looking at my screen with a big questionmark above my head. This right here is really all I needed, all the rest will come when I need it, then Ill be able to consume the info wich is in the other videos...... Or you will make a take 2, wich continues in your tempo where this video stopped. Bless you ** I am a drummer, so naturally Im very curious on how YOU record drums and percussionative instruments.
Hey Drummy Mo Thank you for the comment! I’m glad I was able to slow it down enough. Sometimes I feel as if I am giving too much information. Are you looking for more tips on tracking live(real) drums/percussion in audio or just the process of being able to use samples in Cakewalk?
Hi. It's a nightmare. All I want to do is multi track recording. How do I do this. I can't get a single sound out of it. ? I have my studio , with keyboard synthesiser. I just want to record one stereo track while listening to another. Is it really made so no one can use it easily lol cheers
Hmm are you looking to record stereo audio track or midi track with your synthesizer? Do you have an audio interface or does your keyboard have a built in interface? If you want to record stereo track. You have to hook up L(mono) and R cables into interface. Create an audio track and make sure the input is set to the interface
@@JustDaNorm hi thanks. But I. Paid for wavpad now and it's great put a new computer in my studio and away I go I use a euro desk 8000A 48 channel, 24 out 24 back. And I can now. Thank you for your kind reply. And my keyboard is a tyros 5, work station. It does multi track as well even with a mic. It's great but , but wavpad is awesome right lots of reggae dubbing to do . Thanks again
Cool setup. That board should work great with Cakewalk. Glad you found something that works for you. Don’t give up on Cakewalk though. It Can provide extra tools you may need or want.
Hey Danyelle, Question. Are you experiencing static while recording or also with playback? If you play something else like TH-cam does the sound crackle then? Sometimes what happens is the latency may be too low causing fluctuations in the computer memory. What audio interface do you use? It might help to try an alternate sound source like the computer’s built in sound card to see if your still experience noise. It also could be a bad connection like bad mic cable or bad instrument cable. You can try unplugging interface and restart computer. Sorry you are having this problem. Keep me posted on your outcome.
Hello Winston, Usually if you are only receiving one side in your headphones after recording then it might be because of these few reasons 1. Make sure you set your audio track input to whatever channel your mic is plugged in on interface. The default for an audio track will set it to a stereo input but 🎤 are mono. You can easily tell if your track was recorded on both sides if you see the signal on left and right side. 2. On your interface you might have a switch that says mono/stereo for monitoring make sure it’s set to mono. If it’s set to stereo you will only hear both sides if you have both inputs in. Example… if I am using keyboard I normally run stereo so I would have one left plugged in one input and right on the other input. 3. Make sure your headphones are plugged in good. If you have speakers plugged up test the sound out of them to see if you only hear one side. Hope this helps. I will create more videos to talk about troubleshooting
Hey MythicalKnight you do not need a mixer to use Cakewalk. You make music just with the computer. Now if you plan on recording acoustic instruments or vocals I would advise to get some type of audio Interface. It will allow better latency.
Quick question, if I wanted to create my music tracks on my Triton studio, versus creating in cakewalk, could I then plug my triton into my focusrite interface and record that as a track? What setting would I select to do that in cakewalk? Thanks
Hello. Yes what you can do is record your tracks in Triton and then choose from a few options If you want to keep the sounds you have in your board then plug 1/4 inch cables from keys to interface. Create a stereo audio track (Ctrl + T) you will have to adjust input to receive signal from your interface basically stereo 1&2. With record enabled press Record and then press play on your keyboard. If you just want the midi data you can record midi from triton via usb or midi cable. Add a midi track (Ctrl +Shift + T) make sure input is set to your Interface or key or keyboard. You would have to add a Gm sound to it or use whatever virtual instruments you have.

Hey Daniel. I’m glad you mentioned system requirements. I need to make a video on that. I would also suggest a multi core processor such as Intel i5, i7 Or AMD Dual, Quad core. Etc. I have a six core processor, 16GB ram and 250 GB SSD, 500GB SSD and external 2TB SSD and few old HDD I still use for backup. Back after two months of some success on BandLab when this was too hard. Googled the problem with the fast playback and discovered I needed to change to MME on driver mode. Success there. No interface, just USB mic and computer. Fast instructions at instrument 3 with the TTS found myself getting lost again, had to work out what you clicked on to bring up the panel. Not intuitive. Yet. I will go over the usage of TTS instrument in a video. I also will go live on Friday and possibly Saturday to answer some questions. I will make sure to address your question on there. It’s good that you are making progress. Stay positive and have fun!
Hey Julio. Thanks for watching and also thanks for the headsup. Yep at the time of recording I had just worked out the settings of new mixer. I also was under the weather.
I’m sorry they give you mental illness. I will say it’s always better to use trial of a software first. In this case no trial is needed just download it and work at your own pace.
I apologize I misunderstood what you wrote. I thought you were referring to the DAW being given away for free, but so believe you were saying you are gonna give up on DAWs.

@@JustDaNorm Okay cool, thanks for the heads up!

What are your music goals? Writing styles are genres?
Do I need output connected like speaker or amp on the audio interface for a sound? Im wanting to hear only the laptop built in speaker on the program while recording but no sound.. thanks
Hello. You don’t need to plug up speakers. You do need your headphones plugged into interface. Make sure the inteface is recognized and enabled in Cakewalk
Check your interface for headphone volume control. You also may have a mix/balance knob. Make sure it’s set in the middle or closer to computer sound.
Let me know what type of interface you have so I can provide more specific instructions. All the best!
I’m in Saint Louis tooo! Glad I found you
Thanks for this.

Hey Dasha,
Congratulations on taking the first steps to music production.
Here is a video to help with troubleshooting Cakewalk

Hey Abram welcome to the channel!
Are you trying to create a template. Or are you tryin to use the templates tare on the startup page?
For your focusrite you will have to change the input of each track you create and set it on left or right depending on what channel you have your cable plugged in.
What versions of Cakewalk do you have now. It might be the latest version.

@@JustDaNorm it was a generic interface like those $59 bundle ones with generic mic, interface and generic bendable mic holders..I got rid of it and got a focusrite solo Gen 3 with a stellar X2 mic I think I managed to register my interface and downloaded Abelton live 11 lite but my issue now is when I go to open Abelton to try and learn how to use it there seems to be either someone song or a tutorial song I can't figure out how to erase so I can try and learn to make music on that daw ... you have any experience with that daw or know how to import beats to it and how I can delete that track I mean honestly I'm a total noob and trying to figure this stuff all out myself with no help and it's not easy..or even if you have some videos that would help a beginner drop the links I'll watch them all I'm a serious artist just not experienced in making music myself thanks and sorry for long reply

hi dear , i promised you questions here i am .. its about bouncing to clips.. once this is done what happens / what do we do with the original clips? and what if and can we modify the original clips , what effect on the clip to which they were bounce ? thanks for answering , regards
Thanks for this video! I watched a couple others and they were meant for beginners but they were way too complicated

Hi I can’t get my midi and instruments to work . Track 2 and 3 . Audio is working . Any advise thanks
Hey Badger. Hope all is well!
There a few things to check.
1st make sure your midi controller is plugged up and drivers are loaded
2nd Make sure your midi or instrument track input is set to the controller with the output set to the soft synth you are using.
3rd try adding an instrument track which is an audio and mid track combined. See if you get signal that way.
Also check your controller is set correctly. Some boards you have to switch from midi to usb.
I have a video that may help more as I explain common issues you may face. Hope it helps. Please keep me posted.

Hey brother I really need some help...cant get my interface to read at all..

How do i remove static when recording?
Hey Danyelle,
Question.
I use behringer…
@@danni6391 ok. It might be good to check the buffering and latency
can i ask ,after i record an audio when i play it ,only the left side of my head set will sound, pls help :-(
Hello Winston,
Usually if you are only receiving one side in your headphones after recording then it might be because of these few reasons
@@JustDaNorm thank you very much god bless you bro

Hey! I like that Ye Ye song! It calms me down! :)
Thanks. It was a such a funny tune. Hopefully the tutorial helps.
Do you need a mixer to use these?
Hey MythicalKnight you do not need a mixer to use Cakewalk. You make music just with the computer. Now if you plan on recording acoustic instruments or vocals I would advise to get some type of audio Interface. It will allow better latency.
Quick question, if I wanted to create my music tracks on my Triton studio, versus creating in cakewalk, could I then plug my triton into my focusrite interface and record that as a track? What setting would I select to do that in cakewalk? Thanks
Hello. Yes what you can do is record your tracks in Triton and then choose from a few options
If you want to keep the sounds you have in your board then plug 1/4 inch cables from keys to interface.
@@JustDaNormThanks. That was very helpful. Will consider both options
@@informationstationjw no problem. Keep me posted on your progress. If you need any more help don’t hesitate to ask

i got a problemwhen editing preferences there are no entries in the drivers and device boxe , pls help
Are you using an audio Interface? If you have an interface you will have to install drivers or maybe reinstall.
Here is a video I made recently that cover this problem. Check it out. I will make more videos that deal with troubleshooting.

It’s the MXL 909 Condenser Large Diaphragm

Thank you so much. I appreciate you watching. I hope it helps!
@@JustDaNorm yeah it helped , thanks, do you mix tracks as well? I am looking for an mixer for my tracks but I am not sure how to export the tracks to an engineer so they get the tracks as one project?
@@thrillerkiller6309 yes I mix tracks as well when the time allows. I would suggest checking out LÜM. It’s a network full of mixers, producers etc.
Oh to export tracks. There is an option called omf. This will allow you to transfer files to different daws.
thanks

Sorry... becuase I'm on the 4th channel' what's that, where?
Good question. Thanks for the comment
i watch a lot of tutorials but the guys and or girls don't explain how much ram is needed to down load these daws hopefully my computer which has 16gbs of ram and 512 gbs drive can handle this daw need feed back
Hey Daniel. I’m glad you mentioned system requirements. I need to make a video on that.
System wise 16GB of ram is great, 500GB HDD (SSD is better) should be more than enough space to get you started.
I would also suggest a multi core processor such as Intel i5, i7
Or AMD Dual, Quad core. Etc. I have a six core processor, 16GB ram and 250 GB SSD, 500GB SSD and external 2TB SSD and few old HDD I still use for backup.
You can get started with that you have and as you see fit upgrade later on.
Hello lovely people! I hope you all have been well and enjoying life. I know many may have trouble in Cakewalk by Bandlab. I made a video to cover some of the problems you may face. Check it out th-cam.com/video/Zen0T252TRM/w-d-xo.html
Yet. Someday
Hey Joan, how are you? Good to see your comment again.
Yep MME is the best setting if you plan to use the internal sound card
I will go over the usage of TTS instrument in a video. I also will go live on Friday and possibly Saturday to answer some questions. I will make sure to address your question on there.
It’s good that you are making progress. Stay positive and have fun!
Ma Brother, u good u awesome bro, but maybe you wish not going too off the topic often 😅
Thanks. Yep those older videos I do go off topic quite a bit. Hope it is helpful!
The volume of your voice is too low, please.
I love the video however.
Hey Julio. Thanks for watching and also thanks for the headsup. Yep at the time of recording I had just worked out the settings of new mixer. I also was under the weather.
@@JustDaNorm I think you should check before releasing. Good luck!
Yep thanks!
DAWs give me mental illness, giving em away, just not brainy enough.
