Book 5 was perhaps the most insane year of FEH in terms of meta gameplay changes. Canto, Save skills, Fatal Smoke, legendary Sigurd, fallen Edelgard, bride Catria, Yuri, ascended heroes, and Lethality were all added in book 5. Also, so was Mythic heroes giving an extra unit slot in Aether Raids. What a time it was to be a FEH player.
I'd give it to legendary Azura. That level of powercreep in 2018 was just insane, she was so much above the rest of the pack she was almost a must have unit. The fact that she still retains some niche in summoner duels, almost 6 years after her original release and 2.5 years after her(fairly minimal) remix, speaks volumes. Hell, I'm almost certain that if it wasn't for her fairly low arena score compared to modern legendaries, she'd still be terrorizing arena to this day.
I think she was a great unit, but I wouldn’t say she has the same level of influence as the skill introductions. This video is speaking more on the introduction of skills that allows ALL FEH units to utilize, whereas Azura is just… Azura. You can’t really slap Azura’s four space grant onto another dancer.
Funny thing is nowadays Lazura is such a nothingburger, but back then oh boy oh boy... Unpredictable Refresh with +1 mov as bonus in a metagame with very low movement options, on a unit that just gets fully buffed was fuckin bullshit. I think she's the unit who cost me the most losses throughout the game's lifespan, especially since she appeared so soon.
I don’t think it was as influential, but the Three Houses Christmas banner is the first I can remember every single unit feeling busted, and to the maximum at that.
Fallen Edelgard is still the most absurd IS ever powercreeped the game to me. The edelgards before already got worrying amounts of dev favouritism effects while getting armor stats but none of the downsides but that thing just made 95% of the previous units suddenly nonviable to use in modes she could appear on because they couldn't damage her with all the effects stacked on her for no reason. No more having a +10 Boey and such for a niche use. That was the breaking of the damn and ever since the effect powercreep just kept going.
I’d say that Saves were the only beneficial skill introduction to FEH that wasn’t totally rage inducing. Armored units were given a new life and a chance to participate in the game way more than they did before. Flare/flame veins/pre-combat damage in general changed the game but felt more hostile and unnecessary; a nuke/glass cannon will still be a nuke/glass cannon even without the flare. Pre-combat healing feels like it’s a beneficial fix, but again, it doesn’t feel like a benevolent fix. Maybe the most I can think of that’s similar to the save skills is Laguz Friend helping even the most out-of-meta infantry units (cries in Priam being my favorite Awakening character) keep up thanks to its effects.
speak for yourself lol i thought saves were infuriatingly overpowered and would bottleneck every good armor into being a save unit and i still feel the same way
@@mcbanana1473 There’s still some exceptions that weren’t released with Saves that are still good: Ninja Zelgius, every Edelgard alt since her Legendary alt, Caineghis with his refine, etc. Do they make almost EVERY unit a Save? Yeah, but at the same time, there’s some that don’t need it to be dangerous.
The Winter Envoy, the very first Christmas banner would be my thought. Armors were by far the worst unit type, nearly unsalvagable, but you HAD to use them for Arena. Armor March existed, but aside from that there was very little you could do to not deal with the worst movement, slightly better stats, and being outmaneuvered. Bold Fighter (and also vengeful a little) fixed that, making armors much more threatening and not easy to ignore. Chrom having a nice min-maxed statline alongside the best inheritable aside from maybe Slaying Axe (only available on Amelia as refines didnt exist just yet) helped. Robin and Tharja also were well optimized units, even without PRFs. Lissa aas OK if memory serves, but she didnt xommit to speed as hard as she needed to to stand out
They could give a singular extra point of the stats they normally give and I would still get them because it's so annoying to not have a golden board C skill on my armors :(
it's actually amazing of how *NEW BROKEN SAVE UNIT* in the lates banner didn't bring with it save 4. but i guess we now can wait for the new and improved a slot skill that decharges pre hit special to forgo that new armor skill so that after they can add save 4
The only other honorable mention I'd put out is A!Fjorm since I feel like Hardy Fighter was by was the biggest defensive powercreep we've ever seen in the game. For me this, and not F!Edel, is what really caused the offense vs defense arms race to go out of control.
Bro, I still love using Duo Lif since I first pulled him on that banner's debut! Never actually upgraded him to Fatal 4, but seeing him find the niche to beat the latest and greatest Mythics/Legends/Emblems due to his DR piercing is still satisfying!
for me winter Three House is still dominate arena and aether raid even they were released a long time ago. Winter Edelgard went for offensive while double Byleth went for defend. Yeah they are now are powercreeped by Brave units but still usable for regular players who play for fun
V!Gustav was my favorite unit for a long time. Pulled 2 copies of him back to back while trying for Lif and had a ton of fun experimenting with the new save skill. Still think they should have given him Open the Future but whatever. Hope he gets an awesome refine one day.
A point you didn't talked about as much as you should have is how far saves and near saves got introduced together. Since most armors can be good omnitanks you could use 2 together for each range to protect the allies and stop almost anything. 1 good near save, 1 good far save, 1 support and a cav nuke with canto to deal with particular threats is still enough for me and my go-to to deal with almost anything. Design wise it's nuts, only 'balanced' because nukes can be even more bs.
I ain't going to lie. When the save skills were first introduced. My dumb self couldn't process or understand what they did since I was not keeping up with the game at the time. Same thing happened when spd Dr was introduced I've lost a decent bit of arena and AR-O because of it
I don't think it's on the level of save skills changing the game. But I do think New Heroes: Sibling bonds deserves a shout out for introducing Reinhardt. He really defined the early years of this game for a lot of F2P players. IS probably isn't giving him a refine out of nowhere, but it isn't impossible for him to become a serviceable nuke again out of nowhere.
Agreed, I'd have dropped the game a long time ago if it wasn't for save skills. It made enemy phase playing stable which would have by now impossible due to ramped up mobility. It's the only thing that still keeps me playing.

Pathfinder also came in. Probably not as crazy as the rest, but it's created some insane battles for me
Don’t forget the absurd amount of units with Atk/Spd Push 4 like Constance and Malice
Everyone can complain about powercreep but at least that year gave the game a lot of content and made the gameplay fresh
Yes it feels the same when they change the director of a movie in the later half
The most influential banner was the one with the first scrolling in the trailer because the skills were so long
I forgot about Spring Delthea lol
The most influential banner features a dad and a mom. And I find that kinda of wholesome.
I'd give it to legendary Azura. That level of powercreep in 2018 was just insane, she was so much above the rest of the pack she was almost a must have unit. I remember everyone was terrified of insane powercreep from that banner because everyone, even the demote, was really strong
I don't care about gimmicks. I only cared about Mommy Henriette.
Sharena's mom has got it going on.
I love her equally...
I remember thas times when the meta in any armor unit is Armor march 3 skill and Armored stride skill
There was once a time where Bold Fighter + Brave Bow + Armor March was the best armor in the game. His name was Jakob.
Fallen Edelgard is still the most absurd IS ever powercreeped the game to me. I agree
I think that unit was the start of all this craziness

Save 4 with built in Flat Dr + BoL 4 when?
They could give a singular extra point of the stats they normally give and I would still get them because it's so annoying to not have a golden board C skill on my armors :(
Emblem Hector giving Savior to any unit.
Also add Embla ignorance to those please.
the most influential for me was the birth of Damage reduction plus damage reduction stacking and shits......
did i mention damage reduction ?

Save 3 costs 300 SP, so it's not deemed necessary as of now
Canto is pretty close tho
The only other honorable mention I'd put out is A!Fjorm since I feel like Hardy Fighter was by was the biggest defensive powercreep we've ever seen in the game. For me this, and not F!Edel, is what really caused the offense vs defense arms race to go out of control.
Tbh I agree but I I'd also mention the scared stone baby banner which is kinda close it introduced inheritable canto which was pretty big tbh.

0:18 citrinne!
I still use henriette btw. One of my favorite unkts ever
Loved this video. That Valentine’s banner blew up the world for sure.

Valentine's Lif walked so Valentine's Leon could run
1:05 I just the use of a Family Guy clip for a FEH video

Everyone summoning Henriette to fodder her off for far save❌
Me summoning her for….other reasons🙂😗✅
Saves changed a lot about how armors worked.

This banner was not that influential. Save only became busted around the release of Fjorm. It was very unutilised at the beginning.
So like pioneer banners then?
Cool
What could they do for Save 4 I wonder...
Hear me out; all save, if ally is attacked within 2 spaces, unit takes ally's place, regardless if it is ranged or close up
@@QuintenGaming05 With true dr and scowl
Ignore Embla's non-sense.
Saves, the biggest FEH mistake added to the game XD
