  • Ever wondered how long a hedge takes to grow back after a hard prune?
    Well in this video we take a quick look at this Murraya Paniculata hedge after it received a hard prune back.
    This was done to reset the hedge back to a better position in the garden.
    Hard pruning also helps the plant to reset by allowing sunlight into the middle of the plant. And allowing a good chance to apply new garden soil around the plant if needed. Apply fertiliser, and apply some fresh mulch. A times this can be difficult to access the centre of the plant with hedges, so when cut back it presents a good opportunity to feed the plant.
    If you missed the short video on me pruning this hedge, make sure you go check it out and give the videos a thumbs up to support the channel.
    Let me know if you are tackling a hard prune back soon.
    Have a great day legends.
    Ben

    Hey Ben, would Apil / May in Sydney be an ok time to do a hard cutback like this?

    • @mowtime
      @mowtime  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi
      It depends on your weather temps you get and whether the plants are actively growing in Sydney at that time. Like doing a lawn renovation, if you cut back a plant outside the growing season, it is a much slower recovery. Murraya plants are quite hardy, so you can cut them back in cool months, but if you get really cool continues days, I would not recommend it.
      Just make sure the pant is as healthy as can be before cutting back.
      Hope that was of some help.
      Have a great day 😀

    Hey Ben. Super informative videos!
    Mate, a question for you. Will Lilly Pilly take a hard prune? I need to cut back at least 2 feet off the face, probably closer to 3, and a foot off the top. The top of the hedge at its widest point is close to 3.5 meters! making it extremely unmanageable.

      Hey Marcus
      Ye mate, they will. Just make sure the plant is in reasonable health before doing so, and just before the growing season is a good time. You can cut them any time, just recovery maybe slower. Also depends on exposure to sunlight as well. Hope that helps mate.
      Thanks for the support.
      Have a great day. 👍 😀

    I have 6 Lilly pillies along my fence and only 2 are growing out thick and the others are very thin and not many leaves. they are about 5 years old. Any advice. I’m also in Brisbane

      Hi Jason
      Apologies for the slow response. How are the Lilly Pillies doing? some plants not doing as well as others can be for a number of reasons. Have you checked for curl or white grubs? Check quality os soil around them. Do they need a good slow release and liquid feed? Are they fighting a disease? Are some plants not getting as much water as others? Are there larger trees etc near them sucking up moisture? The garden maybe due for a renovation being 5+ years old. They are just a few things to consider/check. Have a great day. 😃 👍

    How many times a year do you cut a hedge to maintain it? Does it have to be a specific season?

    • @mowtime
      @mowtime  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John
      Great question.
      Depends on the variety of hedge and the season it’s in. Some hedges like the orange jasmine in the video and Lillypilly hedges etc will grow quicker than other hedges.
      Regular trimming and feeding is a must though in maintaining any hedge, and getting on top of pest and diseases quickly before they spread.
      Growing season I trim most clients hedges every 2nd mow at the property as a approximate time frame.
      Hope that was of some help John.
      Have a great day.
      👍🏻🙂

    how long does it take to come back to full green after a hard prune?

    • @mowtime
      @mowtime  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lauren
      Depends on the time of year you trim, and the health of the plant. With a healthy orange jasmine, you should see it spring new growth and start to fill out in 6-8 weeks. Just make sure your keep it regularly fed to promote quick healthy grow back.
      Keep me posted how your going.
      Have a great week.
      Thanks
      Ben 😃 👍

      Not at all. Murraya you can cut back even further and it will recover.
