      Oh heck, just have a giant red bull and a package of ramen noodles, you're already at about 5 bucks and that's just breakfast, then run over to Duncan for lunch for a flavored iced coffee with cream and sugar and don't forget the donuts, those are cheap, 2 for a buck on a good day, now you're up to about 10 bucks, don't forget about those 2 sodas in between, now you can save a little bit at dinner and just get a few things off the value menu at Mickey D's, that should be only about 5 more dollars for a burger fries and another soda, yeah, why eat healthy, just eating regular junk food can save you a lot of time and money, here's a perfect example. Oh and after a year of eating like this, you just may never have to worry about spending another dime on food ever again.

      $600/month is an entire minimum wage month earning. So unless you work twice as many hours, have 2 jobs, or already have an amazing job straight out of high school/college then i guess you cant be vegan. My income when i worked at Subway (that was inside a gas station) was $600/month. So if I literally used every single dime to buy food that would be it then. Except i had to pay my car note, car insurance, gas, and car repairs. So by the time all that is paid for, I got @150/month. Plus i got to eat the wonderful wonderful gas station fruit (most of it is pineapple and apple in lemon juice so it tastes like cardboard and costed $5 for a small cup.) and got to eat all the veggies subway had to offer! like the bagged lettuce and bagged everything besides onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. So yea, if only i had prioritized being vegan, i totally could've done it right? And thank you for assuming what people eat/ spend their money on.

      If you had a garden you could have some of it for free and even make bunch of money selling food to people who think $20 or more is an acceptable budget. There is a permaculture farm in Austria the guy is called Sepp Holzer he charges something in the range of 20 to 30 times normal prices for his produce as far as I can remeber.

    This the FIRST vegan I've come across that I've actually liked. She makes sense and seems approachable. Although I am not vegan, I can respect her position and admire her stance as she does it with tact where anyone can understand her message. She wasn't lying, vegans (in my mind) typically come across as judgmental elitists that are militant, aggressive, and ANNOYING. I like this lady..definitely rare on youtube.

      The Living Fruits Me liking or disliking a vegan is directly connected to how they carry themselves and nothing to do with them being vegan. As I've stated in my original comment, if you took the time to read it, from MY experience vegans come across as "judgmental elitists that are militant, aggressive, and ANNOYING" I wouldn't like this type of person even if they ate meat.
      However this is a comment left for a vegan on a vegan themed video. It was an observation of what I've witnessed. By the way, I listened to the video and liked her approach as stated I myself am NOT vegan but respect and admire her advocacy for her cause, because of her APPROACH vs say Freelee who I find to be annoying NOT because she's vegan but because of the previously stated, and unfortunately for the vegan movement that is what most people see coming from advocates that come to "inform" them on the vegan lifestyle.

      Americans usually spend 11 dollars a day on food according to her 330 a month per person statistic. How could you come to the conclusion that a diet could possibly be only $20 a week, given the title of the video?

    • @overgrownkudzu
      @overgrownkudzu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@zain4019 Well it can though. Rice, beans, pasta, porridge, frozen veg, it's possible.

    • @radiatorbacon5239
      @radiatorbacon5239 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zain4019 it's possible, on average oatmeal which can be really nutritious and can be about 30¢ a pack, canned vegetables and broth can be turned into a soup (if done right) and it can last 3-4 days, and can be frozen for future use too. Beans and rice bags can be about $10-$15 and will last you a few months depending on how many people you are feeding. So $20 a week is doable, especially if you buy enough of certain things that will last you a while, bringing down the cost in the long run.

      DeluxeGods not that they are bad people, but they are a bit out of touch with reality. They strongly push a specific diet that may work for some but does not work for others, and when confronted they attack them offering no real explanation as to why their way is superior. The diet they preach is not sustainable for many and is expensive yet they claim this is the only way to lose weight and be healthy. They make psuedo scientific claims that have no backbone and speak hatefully of others , condescend and attack others for not being slim and reject those who do not fall in their niche. This does not make them inherently bad people, they reach a lot of people with a vegan message but they push an equal number of people away.

      +Nordic Mermaid honestly, vegan is possible on less than $1 a day if you try. Like if you eat mainly rice or oats as your main calories and avoid exotic, expensive produce, and use canned or frozen vegetables. $20 is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

    • @1998tkhri
      @1998tkhri 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Swathi Ramaprasad Well, yeah. I looked up oats on Amazon Fresh (which I only use to calculate hypothetical pricings, and never order from them), and got $3.49 for about 30 150-calorie servings. To get this at about $1/day, you would need to buy two canisters, making that about $7, and using 1/7 of it a week. The two containers contain (150 * 30 * 2 = ) 9000 calories, so 9000/7 = ~1286 calories.That said, just eating oats and water all day forever is not that healthy.

    • @SwathiRamaprasad
      @SwathiRamaprasad 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Eliran Sobel ik im not advocating to do that, but showing $20 is a benchmark for veganism is rediculous. Kind of like when ppl do those $1.50 challenges to show how ppl in poverty are forced to live on a diet of easy mac and cup of noodles packages, but it would be quite possible, and more healthy to do that vegan. My point is, veganism can be as cheap as u want it to be.

    I think it is important to acknowledge that it's more accessible than people think... It's partly about priorities. I prioritise healthy eating. I work part time in disability support, and am on a low income here in Australia (our minimum wage is higher than yours, admittedly). I live a very frugal life. I don't waste money on clothing, for example. I buy second hand, and keep it simple. I own only a few outfits. I am part of a community garden and grow my own vegetables. I live a lifestyle that might be considered Spartan by some. I do this so I can live a healthy life, eating fresh food and not working myself into an early grave. When people say they can't afford to eat healthily, I get cranky, honestly. We don't have to buy all the crap at the mall.

    • @austinknows456
      @austinknows456 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Baris G I believe in fruitarianism and that the homo sapien is a frugivorous species like our primate relatives. Is that self prohibitive or just logical? Everything about the human being points toward it being a fruit eater. If some people want to follow that logic, let them...If others want to continue eating cooked foods because they taste good, let them...There's no need to say that someone following logic is "self-prohibitive". In turn I could say that you are being self-prohibiting of your health by eating cooked. But the reason that you believe that more foods( including cooked foods) in one's diet is better is because you simply have not been exposed to certain knowledge. But hey! You're pretty close to the truth! ...almost there.

      moncj66 I work in healthcare as well so my job is just fine thank you very much. There is no need to spend $600 a month on food, that is way too much especially when you are supporting more than one person like I am and both are going to school. Why would I spend $20 a day when I can spend $5-6 and be just as satisfied and get all my nutrients? Dont tell someone they need a better job when you dont even know what their job is, you need to learn some manners.

      AR Chery I'm a person who was fortunate to come from a family that had their own successful business. Even though my family was successful, I had to start working at the age of 15, because my mom did not allow me to not know what hard work meant and what it meant to have to be independent and support yourself. I actually met Kristiana at the second raw fruit festival and the meeting was not a pleasant one. There are many people who share their stories about meeting her and how rude and snobby she is in person. I will not go into detail, but I will just say, she didn't come off as a person that I would want to be friends with. That may be why my comment seems a bit rude, but when you encounter someone and that encounter is negative, sometimes your words about them come off blunt. Even saying all this, I'm glad she is successful. Any woman who works hard to brand themselves deserves all the success they get.

Raisins, molasses, beans, lentils, some spices, fruit on sale, fresh vegetables on sale frozen vegetables are cheap. I can keep going but I agree $600 for a raw diet when there is little benefit over a regular vegan diet is just foolish.

    I have multiple friends that are farmers, some of them organic and others conventional. If you think there's nothing wrong with conventional produce I'd encourage you to maybe spend some time on farms and look how it's actually done. Not to mention that almost all of the conventional fruit you will find at the supermarket tastes like bland garbage compared to organically grown fruit in good soil. The difference is so HUGE, it's not even the same thing.

      +The Vegan Swan I appreciate much of what the uploader has to say, but you are correct, she is completely wrong on her organic stance...in fact way off, according to respected research proving the pesticide burden/load on the body goes down with organic over conventional; there have been tests done proving this conclusively from independent organizations unrelated to either industry. I was going to post with one actual study from about two years ago, I know I have it, I just don't have time to look for it. There have been several studies from reliable sources absolutely proving organic is better as far as pesticide exposure goes, even tho of course organic is not pesticide free, nor what most of us would hope (and there are several standards/labels of organic, many people aren't even aware of that).

    • @OrangeHealia
      @OrangeHealia 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Join The Progress Actually in EU standards for organic are much higher then in US for starters and organic not only tastes better but they use far much less chemicals then conventional food growing - that is always good... not to talk about deadly GMOs that UV is promoting all the time and vaccines ... she is NOT a good source for the truth or science, she is doing PR for corporations.

      Yeah, GMO's are a whole other topic. I try to let people know that organic also does not always guarantee the food is gmo-free.

    • @MartianBlues11
      @MartianBlues11 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've grown up on around and on farms (both organic and conventional) and if you think that organic is somehow healthy or better then I would suggest you spend more time on organic farms to see that they are no different than conventional ones.
      Also, there is no difference to the taste of organic vs conventional. Feel free to watch that episode of Penn and Teller bullshit where they do the blind taste tests or do one yourself. I did in college and literally no one could tell the difference or pick out the organic food in the blind test at a higher rate than a fifty-fifty coin toss. I had a sample size of just under two hundred people. Many of them were farmers who grew the produce and many were people who swore up and down that organic tastes better.

    You are so logical and refreshing. I've been cutting animal products out of my diet, but it's been a struggle to find someone who can back their statements with science and not anecdotal evidence.
    When I first went looking for info (over a year ago) on changing my lifestyle, I found both Kristina and Freelee, balked, shuttered, and shut the door on that idea. After meeting a vegan who wasn't a conspiracy theorist, I have since shifted to a pescatarian based diet and am slowly transitioning to vegetarian with hopes of vegan sometime in my future.
    It's sad that people like you don't pop up in the search bar, because Freelee is doing more harm than good in terms of changing people's lifestyles. The shouting and insults might work for teenage girls, but most logical people will need evidence to make the change.

      @alexissolidrock 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kirbythecat she might have been too outraged by the fact that Kristina gave off the vibe that $20 a day is super affordable to really pay attention to what she said. If you watch the original video, she starts the video in front of whole foods stating she doesn't usually shop there and just picked it because most people don't shop at co-ops, AND also says I quote "I know that $20 a day is a little for some and a lot for many, but regardless, this video was requested to me..." She later goes on to talk about how much cheaper it is to shop at a co op like she does, as well as offers tips on more money saving alternatives, such as going to a cheaper grocery store, buying in bulk/ non-organic, and of course, shopping at a co-op. So basically, this response video is a bit misled.

      Ikr!!! One must be much wealthier than I am, to be able to afford $600 per month! 🙁 Being vegan is not only for the wealthy; but that's how the original video makes it sound.

    Another similarly ridiculous promotion of Vegan diets are recipes that demand impossible to find ingredients and usually created and promoted by ignorant people who have no idea how hard it is to find these ingredients, when common substitutes should be used.
    We need to make being Vegan both affordable and easy to find ingredients in our recipes we promote
    make it easy as fuck for people to go vegan, not the opposite.

      +Daniel Manahan You don't even know how right you are :)
      I live in Prague where veganism is almost non-existent and cooking by recipes usually found on vegan websites is quite difficult. Even avocados, that are thrown around often in vegan videos, are not readily available at every store. And I believe I've never seen coconut oil in my life. Don't even start on dozen kinds of crazy spices in every recipe.
      I admit that I've never been a great cook and I'm new to veganism, but it really is kinda off-putting for a beginner :)

    $600 a month? Is that for 5 people? My parents spent about that much on all of us and our dogs.

    "Conventional" farming uses synthetic chemicals that produce toxic runoff and pollute our water and air, causing wildlife to suffer. Organic is also a human rights issue, because people have to mix these chemicals to create the pesticides and fertilizers, and farmers themselves develop health issues from working with these chemicals long-term. I'm definitely not one of those people who's like, go organic or go home! and i'm glad you shared a perspective that it's not wholely superior to conventional, but it's within people's rights to choose organic, and it's not worth shaming them for. There's no real grounds to describe things as "less vegan." all industrial food production - whether of animal products, organic produce, or conventional produce - is destructive to the environment, animals, and human communities. The best we can do is to eat locally and seasonally as much as possible, and to try and grow our own food!

    i love how shes not necessarily dissing on Kristina , shes just correcting some areas , i am subscribed to her because she does give off pretty good ideas ( expensive ) but pretty good , and i'm not vegan i'm not even vegetarian , but i've been slowly trying to take meats and cirtian dairy products out of my diet , but its very hard because i live in a really HOT area , and even in the fridge the produce welts and i really appreciate this ,young lady the unnatural vegan posting this vid what she said is very helpful , and also not negative when i first saw it on the side bar i was like " oh gosh a negative vid i don't wanna see it " but then i was like "what if she had a really important thing to say and you need the info " so i clicked on it and am glad i did , i am defiantly subscribing ( sorry for my bad grammar , i am still working on it its just not my strong suit )

    I've seriously fallen in love with your videos. To be totally honest, I used to really dislike you. I followed Freelee and DR and no disrespect to them, but they're just not for me anymore. Their videos made me feel shitty because I just gained a ton of weight by trying their diet. But I've been vegan for about 2 years and the more time that has gone by the more I feel that rational, scientific activism is more effective and I've surprisingly gotten tons of people I know to eat less meat and more people to go vegan by being less 'preachy'. Btw, you're gorgeous!

      I can so relate to all of that! I've kind of outgrown Freelee and Harley and just can't watch their vids anymore (even though I respect the fact that they're still spreading veganism).

    Thank you soo much. I was left confused by khristnas raw food diet. I really tried to eat organic. I felt so low of myself if I couldn't get hold of organic food , especially because I live nowhere near a farmers market and it's very hard to find organic food. Plus organic food is more expensive.

    Love your approach. I am a long time vegan , and I never tell anyone. No posts on Facebook, no announcements at parties or dinner tables. Of course my husband and kids know , and a few people I am close too that just kind of figured it out eventually. I have gone to many family dinners and managed to fly under the wire at the dinner table without anyone noticing what I did or didn't eat. I find most
    people are too busy thinking about what they are going to eat to be bothered with what others are eating. On the odd occasion when there is nothing I can eat I take a bit of whatever, talk a lot and move the food around on my plate and I swear nobody notices! No big deal, I just eat when I get home. Another reason I do this , is I don't want the host/hostess to go to any extra trouble and worry about my "special" needs. I go for the company not the food.

    What blows my mind is that you are a representation of the majority of vegans I know, or are aware of, and yet the assumption persists that we are either misanthropic or being fashionable, etc.
    I have been seeing more and more of these types of response videos but I am always completely unaware of the videos or personalities that are being responded to, am I just living in my own little bubble or something?

    I eat mostly raw because I can't digest grains... its always giving me problems and I just didn't know that that was the cause. I love your videos but there's something your missing, a raw diet is possible and can be good for you. I don't think it should be either or, people like annette larkins have been eating and striving on a raw diet for 40 years. If you think she's lacking nutrients then I would rather have her nutrition deficiency and her vibrancy at 73.

  • @kaylastorie443

    Many people choose to eat organic produce not because of perceived nutrient superiority, but because of the health risks posed to farm workers who are regularly exposed to synthetic chemical pesticides without proper protection. Being vegan is not just about fleeing from anything that has seen an animal, but being ethically conscious as it pertains to animals, the planet AND humans.

      eating meet and dairy it makes people sick so vegans can be concerned about the health of others. there is dark energy with all the bad treatment of the animals and that goes into the food and effects the people who eat it. this is how they then don't care about wars and all sorts or atleast it is a factor.
