I loved this so much!!! I used Dianne Craft’s reading package with my son when he was 11. It really helped him. A friend of mine recently gave my contact info to a younger homeschool mom in need of encouragement for her dyslexic son. I came looking for a video to explain this program. You are such a blessing!! My son is now 20. He decided not to go to college but instead worked his tail off at Dominos. He was promoted to manager & did that for a little over a year & 6 months ago was promoted to general manager over his own store. The previous GM made $102k last year. I fretted for years that my son wouldn’t be able to provide for a family due to his intense learning difficulties. Such an answer to prayer. God is good. He sees and hears the cries of our mama hearts for our children.
Please don’t apologize for your heart being grateful and for your emotions. It’s beautiful to see real moms having real mom moments. You tube is a gift but the editing makes it seem way too perfect with all the instagram carefully created shots and angles when RELATABLE homeschool life snd life in general is …perfectly imperfect most days. I’m so happy for your son! Thanks for sharing your experience with the program.
Thank you, Katie! I was feeling very overwhelmed and sad today after watching my 13-year-old high-functioning autistic, severely dyslexic son with APD take an on-grade level reading and writing screener. So, I did what I always do. I started Googling and Google eventually led me to your Dianne Craft video playlist. I was shocked to learn your son sounds exactly like mine! I can honestly say that I've never come across another child who appears to have the same very, very severe form of dyslexia that my son has. Like you, I've spent many, many nights (and days) crying and filled with worry -today included. BUT...watching your video series has given me renewed hope. Hope that maybe there is another way, maybe there is another program we haven't tried and hope that I may be able to find others who have children with these issues to bounce ideas off of. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me that hope! I hope you do another video update soon!
I’m so glad to hear that this has been an encouragement! My son is doing very well and is continuing to grow in reading every day. I’m so thankful I didn’t give up and that I continued trying new things when I felt like nothing would work.
Wow! I'm crying tears of joy with you! 😭☺️ I've been following you for a few years and I know that this has been such a long and hard journey. If every kid had a mom as supportive as you are for your kiddos, this world would be a much better place. Congratulations to both of you for all the hard work you've put in 🥰
I’m so glad you found something that works well for you! This is 100% why I say science is a tool. NO method works 100% ever. We can use scientific studies to give us feedback, but when we pigeon hole ourselves into one method of learning or teaching, some kids will get left behind. Go you for being brave enough to do what your son needed. He’s part of that percentage that other learning approaches didn’t work for. He has an amazingly unique brain and he’s learning to crack the challenge of the English language in a way that works well for him. That’s wonderful!🎉
Katie, Praise God for your son's success. I cried with you as you shared this testimony. As a special needs teacher, I saw many parents heart broke over their child's struggles, and I saw the tears of joy when they made progress. Prayer moves mountains!
You made me emotional too! I’m so SO thrilled for the progress you seen in your son! My son doesn’t have as extreme of learning difficulties but he has dyslexia and all the programs I’ve tried have not worked well. We just do the exercises from this program and started him on CLO due to their recommendation and I think the 2 combined have really helped him! But it still can be hard cause you feel like you’ve made progress and then there’s an off week where he seems to have regressed and it’s very discouraging. But overall I feel it’s the first thing that we’ve used that has actually progressed him.
You are a beautiful woman. Your love for the Lord and your family just shines through you. You have a new subscriber. I have a special needs 5 year old that I’m starting homeschool w/ this spring alongside my 9 year old whom I’ve homeschooled since day 1. You are amazing, inspiring and give hope to others in similar circumstances. Thank you for your video and sharing this amazing accomplishment!❤❤
I have found that so many people on spectrum end up memorizing words instead of rules. Some of them stumble upon it organically, some need guidance there, especially when there are other considerations like y’all have been dealing with. I’m so happy you have found some success! I’m crying with you, the second you said “second grade.” I’m so proud of him and you!
Praise God you found this program! You have worked so hard to help him and never gave up on him! ❤ 😊 I’m sure his growing confidence in reading is really helping him to keep going!
Oh my goodness! You’re bringing me to tears! My daughter struggles with many of the same things so I wanted to see your review. Thank you for being open and honest ❤️
Totally understand your tears. It's taken a lot of work (for my son and I) to get him reading. I tear up when I talk about it as well. We know how hard it is for our kiddos and to see them grow and for things to finally start clicking is so rewarding. I am going to keep this in mind. My son will be in 3rd and so far the rules have been manageable but I'm worried as we continue to progress too many more rules and he won't be able to keep them straight.
Praise the Lord! Thank you Jesus. I'm so happy for you and your son!!! Such wonderful news. Im crying too. 😂 So inspiring and encouraging for those of us who are also struggling to teach our dyslexic children. Great job Katie in sticking with it!
Thanks for the review Katie and for sharing about this reading program. I have two kids with dyslexia and one also has auditory memory struggles. I’ve tried many things and have felt hopeless sometimes not knowing how I can help him. Before I started this program I was making my own word cards with different colors and spending time printing pictures to go with them. Then I looked into this program after you shared it and realized that’s how my son’s brain works. The pictures and stories help it stick in his brain more than anything else. We started the program in April and I’ve noticed the b and d are getting better. Switching from the short to long values is a struggle but we are working through it. I hope much success as your son progresses in his reading. Thank you again. :)
We used Dianne Crafts Language Arts Dysgraphia program this past year. I definitely saw some positives this past year, but I’m struggling now with where to go with LA. I’m not sure if the program fully helped him with writing but I did see progress. Hugs Mama!
You are so sweet. I’m so happy for you and thankful to God for your success. 🙏 Thank you for sharing. I’m considering using it for my right brained kids. I watched the video on their website that explains the reasoning behind the curriculum, not sure if you watched it. Your video has been super helpful to me. Thank you!
Hi Katie! I just recently found your channel and I was looking for info about Dianne Craft's program - there are not a lot of updated videos or reviews out there! So thank you for sharing your info! I would love to hear another update! How is it going? Are you still seeing progress? My oldest has not been formally tested but has dyslexia we have tried so many different things and I have felt very lost! Continuing to reaearch this program and try to find some used materials to save cash! So happy for you and your son to have found this! Ypure an amazing mama for sticking with it and finding what worked for him!
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm looking at this for my daughter who has a chromosomal duplication (less than 100 documented cases worldwide). She has learning delays galore and I am thinking outside the box now. She is so smart but her brain functions differently... I'm trying my best to find what will work for her and this just might.
I completely understand but just know it’s going to be okay. Our children are great at adapting and compensating for differences. There are definitely things you can do to help them but taking one step at a time is the key. Praying for you as you transition into this new normal.
I have attitude issues with my older kids when we do phonics and I just understand that it’s hard for them!!! I just hug them and walk thru it with them!!! They want to read and hate struggling!!! We saw a big change when a freind group changed and my kid’s felt better about themselves!!! I can do no more than 10 minutes of phonics with my older kids especially with my teenagers!!! I’ve found my older kids need to remember how to break words up!!!
Thank you so much for this video. You are one amazing mama! where did you get the spelling words that had pictures with each letter? I think that could help my daughter.
Hi Katie, I know you somewhat answered that but we are stumped. Similarly to your son, our daughter has multiple difficulties affecting her learning to read. She's still young (6) but has been diagnosed with ADHD dual types (possibly ASD but they wanted to wait a few years to officially diagnose), ODD, Auditory Processing Disorder, a multitude of other processing disorders, and suspected dyslexia, which they weren't formally able to test as she couldn't recall letter sounds. We tried more basic programs with her first (get ready for the code, TGATB, rod and staff among others for the last 2 years) and she still can only recall some letter sounds, therefore we are making the leap into a more specialized program for her. Do you wish you would have started right off the bat with Dianne Craft, or are you content with having tried AAR first? We have a gifted reader above her and she is losing hope, even more so now that her younger sibling is learning his letter sounds. We really want her to grow not struggling with reading, as my husband has said that it has held him back, even in career choices as he knew he couldn't tackle a college course.
I am happy I started with AAR first personally. It layed a good foundation even though we ultimately switched. Looking back I wish I would have done AAR (the exact way it was written) until at least 8 or so because boys are often slower to reading anyways. I think the thing to remember that helped me most is that 4-14 repetitions are needed for a typical student. 14-40 repetitions for a struggling student but 40-200 repetitions are needed for a student with dyslexia or learning disability so the key is not just what we use but how often we review and finding fun ways to mix it up with review.
@@LifeintheMundane thank you so much for the information, sharing your experience, and the advice. I had no idea about the amount of repetition! Other question, do you think the Dianne Craft body exercise and visual flashcards could help even without doing the reading curriculum and utilizing something else such as AAR?
Would your son be interested in doing a lesson w/brain training to see how you do it one year in? We are starting this year and I don't know why, but I'm incredibly nervous I won't do it correctly. This is our 4th program for reading/phonics so I can so relate to the struggles. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Keep us updated ❤🙏🏼
Just curious, does your son struggle with noises/sounds when doing school work? My daughter does and I am not sure if she has an auditory processing thing too along with her mild dyslexia. Very glad this program helped! I might check it out for this coming year. B’s and d’s…. That is so frustrating for them when they can’t get it. Glad he’s figuring it out now! That’s such a relief for both of you!
I am at my wits with trying over 30 curriculums for language arts. My son finally got the dyslexia diagnosis which is in several areas. He also already has ADHD and anxiety diagnoses as well. Did you ever try Barton?
That is awesome! I purchased this program for my 10 year old daughter. I have been intimidated to officially start it. We are using to phonics book and the rbt book. Do you think you can substitute other readers or do you think it is essential to use the right brain ones they sell? I’m also confused with the phonics book. Do you always start at beginning of book and they read till time is up? Sorry one more question. The phonics letter sound flash cards. Do you tell them the sound the letter/letters make? Thank you so much and I am so happy for you and your son!
You can use other readers but do read the instructions in the RBT manual on how to use readers bc there is a system. With the phonics book we start at the beginning read till time goes off and continue that for the week. The next week we start two pages later and read till timer goes off for a week and the repeats.
Did you try Barton? I think you had a video on it. I am looking into similar things for my oldest son, who still struggles with reading and spelling. We are still failing spelling tests after lots of practice.
@LifeintheMundane Did you drop all other language arts while working through these books? I am not sure what I should. We currently use ACE Paces, and my son understands them but keeps failing the spelling tests, and reading is getting more challenging.
@@jessicajackson1088 Yes other then assigned reading (because he does audiobooks for that) we did an entire year of just this for language arts and this fall we will add in Grammar and IEW
I have a 6 yr old who is falling behind. He had an grade 4 brain bleed in utero which lead to right side brain damage and cerebral palsy. He is in public school, tho i homeschool my two older children. Someone recommended this program to me and i found you here. Do you suppose this could help?
Hello, So I've watched this video 2 times now. And I'm curious which package should I get if I want to get started with Diane Craft? I have a 13 year old boy. Im pretty sure he's dyslexic. It runs deep in the family with me, my dad, and my grandma all having dyslexia. Are biggest issues are spelling and writing. Reading is slow. Just not sure where to actually start. Do you have a list you could recommend? You showed a vocabulary book, but I didn't see the front cover.. Please help! Thanks!
So the book is called Vocabulary Cartoons As far as which pack to get I hesitate giving you a recommendation just because I’m not a 100% sure but they do have a great customer service and you can contact them to get help picking out the perfect package
They are completely different in every way and both have strengths and weaknesses. But one is not better then the other. Happy Cheetah is a workbook based one and this one is not. Happy Cheetah is geared towards a younger audience this one Is more neutral in age. This one takes a lot longer each day closer to 45min-1hour and is teacher intensive Happy Cheetah takes 15-20min a day and doesn’t require mom as much. But all that to say it teaches in a way that works unlike anything else for my severely right brain child.
@@LifeintheMundane thanks! Do you have any tips to figure out what brained a child is? I love how you said your son was able to read the Bible verses! I’m glad you found what works for your son! What a blessing!
I started following you because of your video on All About Reading. Do you still use that curriculum? What's your thoughts on it now? Thanks for the video.
Could I know what other curriculums you use for this child? I’m looking into options for my Asd/adhd child at the moment. Also I’m so pleased that this has helped. It sounds like it has been an intense journey
I have used a mixture of curriculums/apps/tutoring etc Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons All About Reading Happy Cheetah Reading Sound case Alphabetic phonics ABC mouse Nessy Bob books
Thank you so much for this video. My 11yo son has the exact same thing and I've tried everything. We actually have the Dianne Craft site word cards, but he lost interest really quickly and it became a struggle like you said. I was just thinking about getting rid of them, and I decided to do some video searching first to see if there was anything else I could add to them. Do you also have all of the primer flashcards, or did you only use the phonics reading book? I'm wondering if I should buy that and just start the entire program. I'm also thinking of getting her multiplication flash cards as well. Have you used those?
So I have pretty much everything from the website. That being said I have actually never gotten around to using the math flash cards. At this point I just decided math facts wasn’t a battle I wanted to pick and my son is in 8th grade so this year I just let him use a calculator for school. I do use the rest of the program though and love it. It’s a lot when it comes to teacher involvement but it continues to work and we’re building skills that he is retaining.
@@LifeintheMundane Yes I can totally relate to picking the battles. I'm started to realize there are things I will have to let go of and he can push for those as he gets older and decides they are important to him...aka memorizing certain things. It's just not something I can put him or myself through anymore. Thankfully they have more technology that can help them than we ever had in our childhood days!

I am at my wits with trying over 30 curriculums for language arts. My son finally got the dyslexia diagnosis which is in several areas. He also already has ADHD and anxiety diagnoses as well.
Did you ever try Barton?
No but I tried similar programs.
I did not but his tutor did and it didn't work for him
@LifeintheMundane Did you drop all other language arts while working through these books?
Yes I do think it could help. It is a great program for out-of-the-ordinary situtaions.
Thanks!
So the book is called Vocabulary Cartoons
As far as which pack to get I hesitate giving you a recommendation just because I’m not a 100% sure but they do have a great customer service and you can contact them to get help picking out the perfect package
Do you think this is better than happy cheetah? How do they compare?
Yes absolutely I use All about reading and highly recommend it. I only use Dianne Craft for my oldest because of the severity of his dyslexia
Could I know what other curriculums you use for this child? I’m looking into options for my Asd/adhd child at the moment.
Also I’m so pleased that this has helped. It sounds like it has been an intense journey
I have used a mixture of curriculums/apps/tutoring etc

Hi! My rising 8th grader reads well but struggles with spelling. Which Right Brain program would be good for him to use?
I recommend this video diannecraft.org/product/training-your-childs-photographic-memory-dvd/ it helps explain how we do spelling
Hello, Thank you for this review. Do you only use this curriculum for the reading, writing and spelling portion? or do you do the math too?
I have not personally used the math portion
Congrats! My 12 yo daughter with autism is great with reading but lacking in math. Where is your son in math?
He is doing pretty well with teaching textbooks and I let him use a multiplication chart
7 months later are you still seeing success?
Yes!
