You come across so relatable. Just starting all about reading with my 4 year old. Going to go slow and steady as we attempt homes cooling preschool/kindergarten next couple years. Focusing mostly on reading and incorporating other things just through play i think. I am intimidated but gonna give it my best shot and re-evaluate when she's officially 1st grade status to see if we will continue. I have enjoyed your content on all about reading and will maybe explore your page to see what other insight you can provide. 🙂 God bless!
This is a great video and very thorough. This is exactly what we've done with our kids as well and it's been great. The only thing was my kids finished AAR 4 by 2nd grade and then I was scratching my head... now what? They were too young for IEW and more formal writing programs, so we stuck to a lot of reading/read alouds, narration, and copywork. Now in 3rd I've introduced MCT and MP literature guides and in 4th plan to start IEW. I hope this helps other mamas with early readers.
We don’t do reading lessons often unless we find my older kids need extra help!!! We found that our kids are crying when reading sometimes so we re do lessons!!! I love the idea of doing extra spelling activities and language arts learning!!! We writing form when my kids want to write and then as they do extra writing assignments we teach writing!!! We get them to choose books to read!!! My daughter loves maga so I encouraged her to read those books!!! When we do read alouds we take turns in reading!!!
Great tips Katie! 👍🏻 I completely recommend the Sonlight readers as well! I completely trust their book choices and the Reader guide is SO nice to have. We’re starting HBL C this coming year with the 4th grade readers. So many good books!❤️
Everything I’ve been wondering summed up in one video! Priceless! Thank you! Question for you~ is there a site that allows you to look up a book and get an overview of time period it takes place in, overall plot, and approximate grade level? I have procured so many books already and I need to choose which ones to assign based on what we’re studying each year and I really don’t have time to read them all first.
So glad it helped.I don’t know of an online option but I do know IEW has a time line of classics book that offers a similar thing in book format. iew.com/LifeintheMundane

This is a great point and a great way to go with younger readers. Thanks for sharing.

This was really good for me! I feel like I've pushed my oldest by doing all the things at once...and she really doesn't like reading very much...
Glad it could help
