@3:40 I saw the DRA switch. Very useful in preventing SPADs. "The remedy is simple - use the DRA. Use of the DRA in this situation is mandatory. Check your rulebook!"
Interestingly like the old Western region of BR, these trains are diesel-hydraulic whereas everyone else used diesel-electric propulsion for high speed (over 100 Mph) DMU's (like the Voyagers/Meridians), so it's history repeating itself. Like the comment from the boss about reliability, how wrong he was! And when Paul is showing of the passenger alarm you half expect him to reply to the driver saying there is fire coming from underneath the train, given their habit of catching fire!
It's not one of my favorites, I prefer the dynamic lines that FGW had and more importantly the Grand Central Livery looks simply stunning. The Barbie Livery works but I like other livers more
Think the Adelantes are better for medium distance jobs, like along the Cotswold line from Paddington. I've done Sunderland to King's Cross on them once or twice and the ride, seating and engine vibrations aren't the most pleasant experience for the 266 mile journey IMO.
@@manomaylr never had the chance to try the service since Grand Central provides much more frequency and is generally the cheapest and most convenient option other than changing in Leeds, have tried the Azuma though and I’ve got to say the Adelante’s are more pleasant to travel on down to the better padded, less upright seating and the lack of the harsh lighting on newer sets.

Yes there were problems that led to the hydrodynamic brake being taken OOU. I cannot recall now why it it never came back into use, but it made the engines sound like a road coach going down Porlock Hill in 2nd gear. The 175s had that feature as well.
Refresca, Electra, Consignia, Essentra..... I swear the same British brand-management bullshitter company makes these names up for all these products and services and just draws them out of a hat. Brand names like these make me cringe. If it ends with 'a', you know its someone in an office making up the names think they've just added 'class.' I've rebranded my dick, using their school of thought, "Penia"
And TfW are still using Class 175’s from Arriva Trains Wales on the North Wales line in 2024 - horrible, cramped trains, very uncomfortable seats on longer journeys that never have enough coaches and never enough space for heavier luggage
All that promise, and they turned out to be some of the worst intercity trains the UK has ever had. Meanwhile, 40 year old HSTs are still going strong.

They withdrew them because they were going nowhere 🤣
