Thank you for the video. I've been trying to one up my dad. He's been building transmissions for 31 years. I built my first 6l80 today. Everything went great. Your video was a big help. Now I can finally build a transmission my dad hasn't done yet.
You are the man, I am a very experienced mechanic that doesn't know anything about transmissions. I had a 4l60e I was working on and one of your other videos guided me through fixing it, it worked perfectly afterwards! Now I had a 6l80e that is acting up on the 456 shift and this video is helping a ton!!!!
Super helpful video!!! You did an excellent job explaining everything in both layman's terms and technical terms. This is coming from a mechanic with 5+ years of experience, but not much hands on experience with gear boxes. I look forward to checking out your other videos. Keep up the great work and stop stressing so much about the camera angles. You did a great job. Thank you!
Thanks for bringing us along. As unlikely as it is that I will ever tear apart this or any other transmission, I still enjoy seeing the internals and learning about how they work and how they break. Thanks for making the videos you make.
I always loved building transmissions it got my mind off everything but the actual transmission, I would get so involved and interested in what went wrong and how it could be improved. Great video very informational hope you continue making them!!
Great info! You are the first I watch if I need tips! Be great to see rebuild video on 6l80/90e if you get the time. Thanks for all the time you take to explain everything like always!
I really do enjoy your videos Hiram. As a professional tech myself I find your videos thorough and informative. You've saved me time on the job with diag already. :) keep 'em coming.
Great video, thanks for posting it, it really helped me out, I am not a transmission tech but with this i was able to rebuild my 6L90 by myself and it shifts perfect now, not everyone can afford paying a shop to do this so i had do it myself, thank you..
Wow Mr. So-called Beer-belly this was A " Helluva Presentation " with SoMany step-by-step details most videos will Not Show..THanx Dude keep-em rollin' ! 💥
Nice Video and Very Informative.. Will this be the same for 2018 Silverado 5.3L? Getting the TCM P0700 DTC and shifting hard.. Is it hard to change that out?
@@MrJunior6939 well I have about 30k on it, I noticed when I put it in that 3rd gear was 0.020 away from the upper limit and now on hard pulls and light throttle it slips ever so slightly. It needed new steels on that gear.....so.... I have go back in it to replace that better other than that it wasnt bad at all.
First one of your videos I have watched. I must say, "awesome job"! I own a full service shop but we do a lot of transmission rebuilds in house. I do all the trans rebuilds myself, which is a pain with running the shop also. Anyhow, you gave some excellent information. I had not ran into the issue with the boost valve passage machining mismatch between the pump halves. That is something that could really bite you in the butt and take a lot of time trying to find the issue. I have had two GM pumps that had a very rough "face" on the stator side. Almost like the milling bit broke or was damaged and made a grooved finish instead of being smooth as glass. I truly appreciate you taking the time to make the video. I have done this for a lot of years and am constantly looking for odd problems or better put "solutions". I subscribed and will take a look at your other videos. Again, thank you.
Thanks great video my friend i would dearly love to see video of the unit being re assembled including piston replacements, thank you for sharing your time and expertise with us and cheers from down under Col
I've probably driven by you on 10. Lol I drive back and forth from Houston to the LA MS state line every 4 days for work. Awesome video. My 2014 Silverado has been in the shop twice for transmission issues. Lost a torque converter once. The damn thing has hunted gears since I can remember. I believe thats mainly due to it being an "off-road" version from Rocky Ridge. 35's, 6" lift and the same 3.42 dif gears. The first and the last one I'll ever buy. Anyways, planning a trans rebuild soon and this video was well worth watching. I appreciate the insight. Awesome vid.
Zack Thomas My 2014 silverado is gonna hit 100k miles tomorrow and zero issues Probably just shouldn’t mod your truck that much tbh especially when it’s a 1st year redesign and the tunes and stuff haven’t been tested enough..
There are two distinct output shaft assemblies: one is a single unit, while the other is not. I would like to inquire if there is a difference in the speed sensors utilized for each assembly. Additionally, I am interested in understanding the potential consequences of using the incorrect sensors for the respective output shafts.
Thanks for the video my transmission just went out on my 2007 cadillac escalade, when i turn on the vehicle for first minute I have forwards and reverse but after that minute or so I lose them again any idea , how much is a rebuilt thanks again
FWIW i didn't use pliers, or use a screwdriver, i used some mechanics wire, threaded it through both holes, and twisted it over the end of a pair of line pliers to compress the ring. wish i could post a pic but it worked great
Thanks for the video awesome! Truck is in shop with what started out as 5-6 slip, changed fluid and filter, found non ferrous metal in pan, after fluid and filter change, truck would not move in first when warm and delayed 321 downshift. Anything I should keep an eye on while in shop? Thanks again for the awesome video.
Great video Hiram. I just ordered a reman 6L80 for my Silverado 1500. Watched this video and now I want to tear into the bad one but, dang it, that core charge though! I also saw a video on removing the thermostat that GM installed on the 6L80's that go in the 1500's, specifically the 2014. Is that something that would be beneficial? Apparently, the 2500's don't have the thermostat. Mine runs anywhere from 194° to 205°.
Superior makes a bypass for it. It allows for full time cooler flow. Ask your local transmission parts place for it. It installs in the original cooler bypass. I have a way to bypass it, I'll make a video later when possible.
It was interesting watching you realize you were incorrect in your previous video. The "incorrect" new bellhousing you had before is just like the one you have in your hand. The 6L90 has a different grove in the bellhousing but they both work.
Hey sir, I was wondering if you had any assembly videos with you measuring all the clearances on the clutches and seal replacement for the 6L80's. Awesome video led me to find more things while I have my trans out. Thanks
Another great video Hiram. I always look forward to your tear downs and common problem videos. Keep up the good work! When you get another pump assembly does it come complete or do you have to use your old valves? If so, Do you use the Sonnax Zip kit on this unit that comes with the new pressure regulator valve? Thanks.
***** I think that's really cool. To be able to keep all those different transmissions in you head. I'd have to bag and label every bit and piece that came off one of them and take a million photos so I could have half a chance of putting is back together. Great videos, keep 'em coming.
@34:22 OFFICIALLY, the story on the 6L80/6R80 is that it was developed in a joint venture between GM and Ford. Unofficially though, you're probably right given the fact that almost every car manufacturer on the planet has used an Aisin unit in something of theirs at some point in time.
Hello Hiram, Your videos are the best - Thanks for making them and sharing. My question is - Can you tell me the difference between the 6L80E and the 6R80E. My 2016 3.7L Mustang has a 6R80E in it. Again my thanks for these educational videos. Vince.
Excellent videos! I have to rebuild mine and I'm probably going to watch some more of your videos before I do and watch yours a few times while I'm doing it. I also live in Houston. Do you know where I could find a rebuild kit for the 6L80 out of my 2011 Suburban here in the Houston area or on the Northside anywhere? Thanks
He is calling a snap ring when is a circlip relay if its got little holes on each end then its a circlip? which you can buy circlip pliers to help you remove or put them in?
Great Job Hiram. These Torque converters Always come in smoked and the clutch Plates have no Lining left, usually Goes Metal too Metal. Thats Probably what you found in the Pan. you think the PR Valve Can cause this problem for the torque converter? or can it be the boost valve giving lack of lube due to Low Line pressure? your feed back would be great. Had customer have this unit come back 2 3 months after over haul tranny smoked and when i cut the torque open the lining is completely gone.
GM has upgrade the piston damper on these units with beefer springs and better casting I'm pretty sure it's not the piston cracking. It's definitely in the tranny.. how is the lock up valve when you go threw the valve body? Yah look in to it when you got time could be very helpful for the me and my guys.
What i would like to know is what aftermarket real good parts can you put in the stock GM 6L80 e to make it last longer and make it easier to service as they do not have a noramly re filling opening?
Hiram,Nice work and enjoy your videos, one question on the 6L80E. What other than keeping the fluid changed can be done as preventive maintenance? For a light towing vehicleonce again thanks for sharing the Knowledge1
When you pulled that valve body I had to jump back and make sure I didn't miss anything. Is that normal now to have the whole valve body as a unit and not be half in the case with separator plates and gaskets?? By far the first one I've ever seen come apart that way. I've never rebuilt a 6spd before only 3-4spds. Then you spun it around and the from pump comes out with the bell housing!!! What kind of evil is going on here! Crazy! Now I gotta watch the whole damn video to see what else.
I HAVE A 2014 6L90 THAT I JUST REBUILD AND NOW IT DRIVES AND CHANGES GEARS GOOD BUT AFTER A WHILE OF DRIVING WHEN I STOP IT WILL STOP PULLING IN FORWARD AND REVERSE WHEN I TURN THE VAN OFF AND BACK ON IT DRIVES CORRECTLY UNTIL I STOP PLEASE HELP

hello you advise? on D, my car won't move. the M starts off but the 1st, 2st, 3st at full throttle clutch slips. I changed the seal to 1,2,3,4. sealed to thcm, oil, filter. there are no wear parts in thcm. the pump seal is replaced. everything looks intact. the car has driven 60000mil. the stator rings are replaced. please help. 6l50 camaro 2014 v6
Great video very useful***** I want your help on my 2009 caprice has 6L80-E and it is sometimes harsh shifting on 1-2-3 first shifts and sometimes it shifts normally when the car is cold there is no codes . one time happened that when it shift from 3rd to 4th gear it stuck for 2 second and then it shifts harsh ,in the morning the problem gone!! also another problem when slow down then accelerate at 40-70KPH it slip(go to N then engage after 2 second) what you think is the problem? thanks
How do I know if I need 24248569 (17.948mm), 24248570 (17.961mm), or 24248571 (17.974mm) when ordering fluid pump rotor kits for a 6l80? I haven't gotten the ATSG manual yet, I was trying to order some of the parts I know I'll need/want along with the manual before I start the teardown. Is there a measuring technique for this outlined in the service manual?
Hello Hiram I have a 06silveradoCrewcab4x4 no 2nd or 3rd. Do I need a full rebuild. What could go wrong and how much should I expect to spend, thanks really enjoy your channel
Do you know why my 4T45e transmission leaks a lot after rebuild. They've replaced side pan, bottom pan and, axle seals almost 20 times now. Could it excess pressure ? Thank you
I build 6l90e and 6l80e oem and used i work for a gm and ford company i built the backdrum, center support, valve body, and been in the line i like what i do but the wage isnt worth it.
I have 2015 suburban rwd lt. In summer hot days it used to hard shift and on constant speed even on little uphill it was jerky as in wrong gear. All winter it was good. In summer changed fluids and filters twice didnt help tried adding additives make it shaky at idle in gear. So what causes over heating and hard shifing in summer. Do i need a new torque converter or rebuild? Winters ending so concerned to get it fixed. Thanks for any help i can get
I have a 2011 z71 4x4 with the 6l80e it has a bad tcm bad torque converter I want to replace it with a 6l80e from a 14/15 silverado. My question is if it's compatible for my application
What all has to be done to remove just the bell housing? I noticed you dropped the valve body and seals prior? Is all that needed to be removed to just do the bell housing?
I have a question. low / reverse part (non-detachable) revolves only in one direction? and goes to light? can you give someone a video and spin it? PLEASE

Hi Hiram, great videos, no messing, straight to it.
What size are the snap ring pliers you have used in this strip? I'm about to rebuild my 5l40e, really wish you had a video on here of rebuilding one, especially with the piston install.
Keep up the great work.
Cheers,
great job, I could do one myself now, just would have to use a camera to film the steps etc???
Now I know how much labor cost it takes, thank you
that pile of dirt is giving me so much anxiety
You will get over it.
So exactly what caused the destruction? Was it from the worn valve? Then everything else went?
is there a specific kit you recommened to rebuild these 6l80s?? from the piston to the all the frictions??
anybody know? Pulled my transmission today now need to rebuild it. First time ever rebuilding a tranny
Circle D has kits
Aisin has a factory in Indiana, half the company is owned by Toyota, and they also make furniture, ac’s, toilet paper and stuff like that

How do I know if I need 24248569 (17.948mm), 24248570 (17.961mm), or 24248571 (17.974mm) when ordering fluid pump rotor kits for a 6l80? Great Video Mr. Gutierrez, I was wondering how can I get you to do a rebuild for me on a 6l80e. I'm located in Houston Texas as well.

What all has to be done to remove just the bell housing? I noticed you dropped the valve body and seals prior? Is all that needed to be removed to just do the bell housing?
you dont have to remove the pan to pull the Bell Housing just remove the 9 15mm bolts

Question I have a built 6L80. I lost 456 gears in it. 123 and reverse work still. Any idea what could cause this?
Hi, it seems that you don't repair any Toyota transmissions because I don't see any videos on Them.
I was taking some AT. units in School we worked in a 4L60,BMX-A,4F27E Are there any videos on Ford AT's.
With that much contamination combined with the complexity of the valve body, wouldn’t be best to just replace the whole valve body? Great video BTW 🤘🏻
I have a question. low / reverse part (non-detachable) revolves only in one direction? and goes to light? can you give someone a video and spin it? PLEASE
