I like that Charles takes no prisoners. He's willing to call the people he works for "clowns" and he's right, so nobody can really get mad at Chuckster for saying that. Inside the NBA being forced off the air is a lot like NBC ousting Conan O'Brien from the Tonight show. But what Conan did is take his talent (and his entire crew) to a new network. Conan paid his staff when they were all jobless. I hope that Chuck, Shaq, Kenny, and Ernie do make their own show, even just a podcast, on their own should TNT lose the NBA. Why do all the good things have to be discontinued? 😭😭

Was he worth the money? I guess the answer was yes until it was no. But that's why everything eventually falls apart, they all start wanting too much money. Something that started off bringing in a bunch of money (when they were paying them like, single digit millions) has now become this top heavy behemoth that is no longer feasible.
If you're trying to diversify your sports coverage, paying half a billion for like an hour of basketball coverage now sounds stupid. Now it makes more sense to make "Inside the NCAA" and pay those guys a million a year. Rinse and repeat.
For 100 million, Chuck certainly isnt the business of charity himself.
The little interest I have in the NBA is largely due to watching Inside the NBA. Might be the best show on tv right now. Wish those guys would do a football show or college basketball show.

Zaslav is one of the worst CEOs. He has been WB CEO since May 2021. Since that time, he has done nothing good. He canceled many beloclved shows and killed many good completed projects. Now, he fumbled the NBA. Worst yet, during his tenure, the WB stock went from $37 to $8. A chimp can do a similar if not a better job.

All things must pass, so if it's over, then it was a helluva ride for a great many years and I appreciate each & every person involved in putting on the show. I like the idea of them doing it via another production co., but those options rarely seem to work out for all parties.

Im completely missing games a lot of the time, but the one thing I’ll always watch NBA content wise, is Inside the NBA, it’s what always draws me back in and keeps me engaged with the NBA, such a shame if we lose it

Problem is even if the other studios get Ernie Chuck Shaq and Kenny, yes it will be great… but it won’t be the same, the staff, underdog and them, they’re an important part of the show. The culture behind that production will be gone.

Inside the nba alongside TNT’s production of the games as well as their play by play announcers is second to none. Not just basketball, but any production in sports. This is a real shame if it’s going to most likely be replaced by garbage elsewhere. ESPN basketball broadcasts are unwatchable

I'm going to add here that ESPN couldn't rent a car to have their halftime analysts do a game in Boston, but TNT will go the extra step and fly their personalities to go do the analysis near the baseline of the court...

The cast, led by Ernie, has it all: chemistry, three former NBA players, two former champions, humor, debate, healthy arguments, sprinkled with more humor. With all their wisdom, experience, and insight, these big guys can laugh at themselves. It's a beautiful thing to see in this uptight world, and it's absolutely heartbreaking for us fans that it's about to come to an end.

I got rid of cable TV back in 2000... But anytime I could watch these guys live or on youtube, wouldn't miss it for the world. They are such a good funny crew...
I stopped watching NBA back in the 90s after Jordan and Inside the NBA is what got me back into it the last 2 years

Chuck went from “I don’t want to die on television. I want to retire” to signing a 10 year contract renewal to now this.
Luckily the NBA is still a good competitive league, otherwise this may hurt many fans but it won’t hurt the league as bad. I grew up with these guys back in the early 2000’s!

If I was an executive at a network bidding for NBA broadcasting rights, I would reaching out to to the agents of the inside the NBA crew to see if I could get them for my pregame show.
I really truly don't think NBA fans don't get why Ernie is not leaving. The way we talk about Walt Frazier or Kevin Harlan is what Ernie Johnson is to baseball. Ernie is LITERALLY one of the best baseball commentators in the entire sport and if TNT loses the rights to the NBA, they are just going to have him do more baseball.
Blame AT&T they purchased Turner years ago with this in mind. Now they want to cut budget to satisfy their shareholders. It’s a shame even the best of the best get looked at as a number to these corporations. What a joke

@@grimendancehall Actually yes. It's well documented that Warner was losing money. That's why they wrote off a lot of their projects. They can't compete with NBC and Amazon right now. They're losing the NBA but they're keeping college sports which is also a big draw. I think they even added college football.

I’ve never had an opinion about Mr. Barkley. You could say I’ve been indifferent about him as a commentator. The few times I have gone out of my way it’s been to see him clown those big ol’ women in San Antonio to have SHAQ bust out laughing like it was scripted.
After seeing this today, I have a new found respect for him. The way he is advocating for the people that works with him, and how they came in as high school students to post college grads with their children. He even called them his family. That’s something that I do have an opinion on. Well said Mr. Barkley, well said indeed sir ✌🏾

Whatever corp picks up the NBA, they'd be stupid not to take on the Inside guys and their production team or at least the top people and up-and-comers behind the scenes. But Chuck saying TNT shoulda spent the money on keeping the NBA over college football just tells me he isn't aware or is in denial of which way the ratings winds are blowing for the NBA.
Every network has their own production crews which is why Ernie said he’ll retire rather than move to another network. Maybe working under Barkley’s company is the workaround.
a few college football playoff games every year, even with the NBA's ratings, isn't gonna surpass what they're getting already. We're talking about a short playoff compared to an entire season of games AND this show which is Emmy nominated more than once over.

Sports is the biggest thing going on TV. Networks are paying big bucks for the broadcasting rights. After the rights are paid for, not much money is left to pay for the cast and crew of their talk shows. When inside the NBA contracts were originally inked, it was much cheaper for TNT to pay them than it now.

What a monumental, colossal, boneheaded thing to do. To me, it's like if NBC cancelled Seinfeld. Unreal.
I think they (Inside as a whole) will land on their feet. Inside has been such a big part of the NBA watching experience. Again, those four guys make up that show. If you think about it, once they (or one, two) are gone (health issues or whatever else), the show is gone. I think it'll get picked up, hopefully on Amazon. I'm not subscribing to Peacock, and most of us have Prime. It just makes sense. Reality though, the show has maybe a decade left because father time is father time.

Yep, he is already rich and can easily be only concerned about himself, but it is noble that he concerned about his coworkers.
Apologies for the thesis but here me out. I would hate to see the INSIDE shut-down...I think the other reason why Turner decided to let NBC have the rights is because you have some of these basketball games where teams are being beat 20+, 30+ points. I'm not going to watch a slaughter game and so as a viewer you're more inclined to watch a football game, provided you're a football fan, or eventually something else. I think also the aspect of load management is also something that has hurt the league, which if I know a player is not going to play, I'm probably not going to watch that game. I love the show. God knows I do. Lastly, a lot of these networks are now competing against streaming networks like Netflix, etc. I love the chemistry that Ernie, Kenny, Shaq, Chuck, and heck, even Underdog bring to the production but I think Turner is looking at the fragility of the league and saying is this league what we know and love. When you look at All-Star Weekend, the past few years after, I want to say 2020, it hasn't been as captivating to watch in compared to years past. At first I definitely hate that the show was coming to an end but then I had to think, they may not be missing much. I think the audible, pun intended, is for Chuck or Shaq or whoever to secure this production but maybe add a twist because I can tell you this, if you take all four of these people off, and lets not forget Tuesday Night Basketball, the NBA is more than likely going to lose its television fanbase for sure.
