He has the near impossible task of juggling three strong, but disparate personalities who all love to talk. For context: The NBA is about to DOUBLE their TV earnings after the 2024-25 season (according to the Wall Street Journal). Disney (owners of ABC/ESPN) currently pay $1.5 bill/year and Warner (owners of TNT) pays $1.2 bill/year for rights to NBA games. After 2024-25, Disney is about to pay $2.6 BILL per year for their slate of games.
    Warner was supposed to agree to a new deal, but they didn't make a good offer in time for their "right of first refusal" period (which ended last week)...which allowed outsiders to put in their bid. NBCUniversal (owners of NBC and Peacock) just put in a $2.6 BILL/year bid to show games on their network. Warner still has time to match NBC's offer --- because if they don't, they will lose TNT AND "Inside the NBA".
    If that wasn't enough -- after the 2024-25 season although Disney and either Warner or NBCUniversal will be paying more for games per year, they will actually broadcast LESS NBA games. That's because the NBA left room for a streaming partner to stream some games --- like the NFL does. Right now, Amazon has reached a tentative agreement to stream several NBA games when the new TV deal kicks in. This will allow the NBA to be broadcast all over the world (at least the games Amazon picks up). TH-camTV is trying to get some games, but it's unlikely.
    Also, IF NBCUniversal does get the contract away from Warner, several things will likely happen: NBC wants to broadcast several games DURING the NBA finals alongside ABC, and NBC wants to showcase several Conference finals games on their STREAMING network Peacock.

    • @SirCharlesLikesChurros
      @SirCharlesLikesChurros 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      Question. Only if you have time. Sorry
      - What do you mean by lose TNT? I get they'd lose Inside the NBA, but why would Warner lose a whole channel if they don't match an NBA deal?
      - Would it not be obvious that they won't match? I'm guessing that they didn't agree on an offer below the $2.6B (or else it would have been signed already), so even less likely that they will suddenly agree now that the minimum offer has to be at least $2.6B to match NBCs right?
      - Amazon wants games to stream them in Amazon Video? So it would be free for everyone with Prime already? Or does Amazon have another pay to use streaming service?
      - Lastly, is there already a breakdown of how many games they'd force you to get peacock to watch vs how many there will be in regular channel 4? Or not? ... Are they even gonna have the games on channel 4? Or are they gonna use another of their TV channels?

      @JmO-ee1bi 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @susanstamboulian646 Lol it’s funny, I was born at the tail ended of the ‘80s so I don’t remember them obviously but I remember the NBA on NBC theme song and seeing the old CBS clips and thinking they sucked. It’s true that Ahmad and everyone else kissed MJ’s ass (he earned it), and that Marv Albert being a creep kinda tainted my memory of it, but it was pretty awesome at the time. When Jordan came back in ‘95, while my home team had Shaq, that shit was very exciting to me as a 1st or 2nd grader lol, and there is no doubt that the NBA on NBC theme song of that area is the GOATEST sports theme song of all sport all time, kinda like Whitney Houston’s Star Spangler Banner performance from a few years earlier was the greatest IMO (I heard she’d pre-recorded part of it, but I have to say the sound engineer who pulled it off is a genius because it sounded live and I’m a musician with a good ear for bullshit (it’s rampant today, yuck). Anyway, the ‘80s always seemed like a weird time that I was glad was over as a ‘90s kid lol.

  • @TheeJ0kerWild
    @TheeJ0kerWild 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +75

    These guys are missing the boat. Almost everyone watches the content on youtube after the game is over. Just do a podcast with the highlights, and all leave they would kill it. No bosses anymore
    Then make whatever network pay to show your content and give you the games. They could do the NBA finals. Because the network would pay them. The commercial revenue alone would have every major network renting them.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +21

      They can't show the highlights because they won't have the rights to broadcast the NBA games in any form. They will either be not monetized or taken down for copyright infringement by the enemy networks. They could do a TH-cam channel for sure but it wouldn't be the same without showing the games/highlights. Podcast would be sick but would have to be a different avenue, like a daily basketball show of some sort.
      If the other networks get the contract for the games, you can't make them give you the games. NBA fans like myself are going to watch the game no matter what channel it's on, just how it works and the networks realize this. If my team is on NBC at 7pm, you either watch NBC at 7pm or you're not watching the game. They would have no reason to give games to anyone else no matter how popular these guys are. NBA on TNT fans just might tune out at halftime and postgame and not watch whoever's on, just like I do now with ESPN.
      Gloomy outlook for sure
