The one board I'd recommend in the $180 - $200 price range is the B650 Steel Legend Wifi from ASRock. It's basically an upgraded version of the B650E version that came out before it. It even has a PCIe gen 5 x16 slot and a Gen 5 M.2 slot. Not that I care for those at the moment but I'll gladly take it when the Tomahawk or the Aorus Elite AX don't have anything else that stands out in this price range. Plus the board is white, which is always nice for aesthetics.

Haha. I think I should have shown the pricing when talking about this. The cheapest B650E is $189, and the next one up is $239. Meanwhile I'll be shocked if B840 is better priced than the cheapest B650 boards, so there's essentially no price savings for sticking with PCIE Gen 3, which will be eclipsed in future years.

So, I ended up going with an MSI MEG ACE X670E. There were a couple reasons why I chose that, but the biggest was that it had a 10Gbe network adapter onboard. There were other features that I liked, but the ability to have 10Gbe onboard instead of needing a card was a big one. The M.2 layout was also solid and I liked the cooling solution a great deal. I didn't see enough value to go to a "Godlike" at $500 more to just get an LCD readout screen, basically.

That way I can take out *three* birds (turkeys, all of 'em 🦃😝) with ONE stone: Intel, NVIDIA, and Microsoft.
    *Must Haves:*
    - BIOS flashback feature
    - Onboard WiFi
    - Built-in I/O shield
    - Three x4 M.2 connectors
    - Decent audio chipset
    - Thunderbolt 4 connectivity
    - USB 3.2 gen 2x2 (20Gbps) Type-C connectivity
    *Nice to Haves:*
    - Seven segment debug display
    - Onboard On/Off / Reset / Clear CMOS
    - 2.5 Gig LAN
    - 'Stealthy' aesthetic (not _too_ much RGB bling)
    I'm really liking ASRock's B650E Taichi Lite 🤗

Since it was bought right at the introduction of AM5, I selected the most affordable and highly expandable board with PCIe5 GPU and M2 pcie5 slots, plus many extra M2 pcie4 and one M2 pcie3 slots, hoping to get 5 years and several CPU choices and/or upgrades out of one motherboard :-) To populate the board, started with a 7700x (fastest gaming cpu at the time), superflower 1000w power supply (platinum), and 7900xtx (founder's edition), and ddr5-6000 corsair ram

Went with an i3 12100f, H610 DDR5 motherboard, and an MSI Ventus X2 RTX 3050 8GB. But what I've found in France.
    ASROCK B650 PG Lightning WiFi.
    - ±190€
    - ±71°C for VRM after Cinebench stress tesr with a 7950X
    - Wifi 6E ; Bluetooth 5.3
    - 3 Nvme slot (1 in Gen 5, you might not buy a gen 5 Nvme, but the option is there)
    - A lot of USB port.
    - A lot of USB port in 3.1 (and 3.2 gen, because having only some goofy 2.0 USB port is sad in 2024)
    - 17 phases for VRM (14+2+1)
    - support 7200MT/s for dual channel
    - The PCB is on 8 layer (better signal) with a additional non-scratch layer (low risk to accidentally damaged it)
    - 2,5 Gb/s Ethernet (that's 312,5 MB/s)
    - BIOS flash button, and Flashback.
Lemme know how much it cost in US

If you can get the MSI X670E Gaming Plus -WiFi on sale (I got mine for not much more than the B650 version) it's a great motherboard. Only caution is when you're using larger GPUs that take up 4 of the little removable panels on the back, you'll be losing access to all but one of the PCIe slots. It does have gen 5 M.2 and three gen 4.0x4 M.2 slots, so that goes make up for it for my uses. I train AI checkpoints and LoRA/LyCORIS files for Stable Diffusion, so I need as much storage as I can get (that's in addition to a drive for my games. At the price I paid (about $220 I think) it's worth every penny.

Great video I think for my first PC I’ll be doing for the ryzen 7800X3D and most of the parts except the Ram are from MSI and cooler master big among them the MPG X870 carbon wifi since I’ll be editing and gaming I will most likely use all the slots but also that board is one of the best looking I’ve ever seen

Another one that looks REALLY nice but premium priced (~$450) is the Asus ProArt X670E one, it has an insane feature set and even supports ECC memory, and doesn't look to be missing anything the gaming boards have for tweaking. If I was going to go all out, this might be my choice. For mini-ITX on a budget, the Asrock A620 ITX board is $140 on Amazon and has eight 60A power stages (more than enough for the 9900x and below 9000s and all 7000X3Ds) and has memory OC'ing.
Nice to see my Asus B650E-F in the picks. When I bought mine, it was the cheapest way to get PCIE5 M.2 and GPU slots at around $250, no one else had anything really close and the Asrock boards weren't looking too good at the outset (remember the sticker residue fiasco?) Now you can get the MSI X670E Tomahawk for about the same price as the B650E-F, making the Asus look less attractive if I was buying today.

    Just to put in perspective.
    For Gen 4 Nvme (That's around 7 000 MB/s)
    1 TB is around 90-100€
    2 TB is around 145€
    4 TB is around 230-250€.
So by definition. If you can find from a *known brand* a 4 TB Nvme 7 400MB/s (that's slightly faster than the Samsung 990 Pro) for 230€. You're good.
Knowing US. You might found again lower price than me in Europe.
Cheaper without being sus I've found was Lexar 4TB Nvme for 230€. 7400MB/s read, 7000 write.

So the USB-slots speed does not matter for mouse & keyboard and that stuff? I feel like i want as fast response as possible from those for competitive games atleast. Are you sure that bigger USB-speed is absolutely no difference? So there is a cap in how fast a mouse can respond and it does not change from bigger USB-speed?

I am surprised you made no mention of either B650 PG Riptide and B650 Steel Legend. both of which run over the competition of any MOBO from 150-220 price range only beaten by B650 Taichi lite, the vrm and PCI5 lanes alone for that price makes other boards feel like rip offs

PCIE gen may not matter for me but USB4 does, being user a of Mac, I value high speed interfaces like thunderbolt and USB4 is a good alternative. I'm not that much of a gamer (play video games once in a blue moon) but I need a good system that has good connectivity, silent operation, and provide me sufficient power for development and content creation using Blender. Davinci Resolve, Android Studio etc. Some of the files are in 10's of gigabytes. So unfortunately I have to spend money on getting an X870E based build.

Any particular version you recommend to power either a new 9000 series, or a 7950x with a 4090 for triple 1440p
Couple of M2 drives, but mainly, it's USB ports to take all the peripherals for SIM racing. This would be higher up than most other specs.
