- This is a tutorial video on how to use the pattern sequencer to make beats. I explain step-by-step the basic process behind recording and looping samples to create patterns that you can use to arrange the song as you go. I also show some tips and tricks to make life easier. It’s a really fun way of making beats with a different workflow than you might be used to.
We’re going to learn how to switch over to pattern mode, set the bpm and tempo, set the metronome level, adjust the bar length of the pattern, record patterns, erase patterns, overdub and fix parts of the loop, set the quantize amount, record with quantization, set the swing size and amount, create pattern variations to prepare for DAW arrangement, apply effects (MFX) to pads and everything in between.
Please note that this video does not go over how to load samples onto the SD card, chop up samples, or record into your DAW!

I’ve always had an sp, mostly used it as an effects processor and drum machine for live post-punk stuff, You have now turned me onto the sequencer and I’m making full on alien shit now. 🙏🏻
Nice!! That’s great to hear
This was so incredibly helpful, my sp404a should come in the mail in a few hours and i've never been more excited to use a piece of gear in my life ✌️
You're in for a treat!! Glad to hear it was helpful
Brother I knew that it was there but I didn’t know that you could erase and change tempo and all that other stuff wow! Getting the sp out right now!!! Great video brother
You have a great flow in presenting information if that makes sense! Helped me with the mk2 pattern sequencer even if it's changed in some ways.
Definitely makes sense! Thanks so much
i just ordered an SP404A and i'm studying lol! thank you for this awesome video
Great video and explanation! Don´t have the SP404 myself, but have been eyeballing it a few years. Inspiring to watch the process regardless, and you gave me some good insight in how the device works. Nice vibe in the samples and the chops!
Really good tutorial.I have super bad adhd and I was able to not go back inside my head to much and pay attention.
Thank you! That's great to hear
Sweet. I gotta get in pattern mode now. Great easy to understand video. Cheers.
Definitely! I always enjoy working in it

Super helpful, thanks bro!
No prob! Glad it made some sense!
Thanks for this, great tutorial very helpful ahead of getting my 404
No problem! Hope you're able to have some fun with it
Great rundown of how to use the sequencer. Despite all of the hate it gets, it’s actually not a bad sequencer, and gives you more flexibility over your productions than the resample method does. Could you make a video showing how you track your beat out to a daw, and finish it?
Yeah, it does get a lot of hate. I think people find it clunky but I do agree with you. Great idea!
@@Senshobeats After you add the Vinyl Sim effect to the pads in the sequence, do you resample them so the effect is permanently on them? How do you make the effect stick?
Yep, if you want it to be permanent, the best way is to resample with the effect on
Great tutorial cheers 👍🏼
Glad you found it useful!
Great video 👌🏾
Thanks for watching!
great video, my sp404sx is alive now🤣
This was great 👍 info earned a sub
Thank you!
Useful ! 🙏
69 , dope tutorial. It was Very helpful , thank you
Holy shit this just inspired me to clean my pad.
Having a clean workspace is so nice man
Please do more SP - clear throughout
Definitely will!
thanks
Thanks plair
You got it!
Nice vibes! I got a question, is there a way to "mute"/"unmute" pads while playing them in a pattern? Basically, I'd like to apply changings on the fly in a pattern while it's going... E.g. adding/removing the snare pad, or the hi hat. Or making different patterns is the only way? thanks!
Appreciate you! I don't know of a way you can do that, I always just copy the patterns, make variations and then trigger them in different orders
This is cool
What was that move with the SUB PAD button around @9:45?
I'm just using it to get the swing on the kicks. So the first kick gets copied onto Sub Pad and then I can get a tighter swing using both of them with two hands
I really felt that low battery, its really like that..
It's a heartbreaker
Will this work with recording? I’m trying to find away to record songs with instruments using the sp404sx and it would be nice to be able to hear what I’m playing to while recording. Any ideas?
