At the end of November 2024, I purchased a new 2023 Ioniq 6 SEL RWD for 12,000K under MSRP in Tallahassee, Florida. It had sat on the dealer's lot for nearly 600 days. We love driving the 6. Its a great car.
I had the previous Kona. Nice in most respects but I was concerned about the lg chem batteries. Presumably they are still using them, but Viking says nothing about them. Fire risk, degradation, charging speeds - I think they are significantly worse in all respects than the Chinese alternatives. So no, I cancelled my new Kona two years ago and went byd instead.
It's incredible that even at these massively discounted prices, the Ionic 6 is STILL overpriced, relative to its direct competitors. No wonder they have had so much trouble selling them.
Absolutely agree that the price reduction of the Ioniq 6 is in anticipation of a face lift version. Given the Kia Hyundai Group has already done updates for Kia EV6 and Ioniq 5. And I agree the Kona Electic is too expensive and less competitive now it’s over 6 years old having been released in the UK August of 2018 and not benefiting from the EGMP platform and not being rear wheel drive. @@878Docto it’s not about EVs being so good it’s about ICE cars polluting the air and causing premature deaths. Let’s not get started on the climate emergency I know some people don’t believe it. But surely we all agree ICE exhaust is polluting. The Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate is scheduling the decarbonisation of personal transport otherwise manufacturers would continue making ICE vehicles left to their own devices. A ZEV doesn’t have to be a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), could be Hydrogen Fuel Cell or Nuclear but most car manufacturers believe BEV is the most mature alternate tech- currently. Yes BEVs can be expensive at the moment, yes their range doesn’t yet match that of an equivalent ICE and yes there are challenges around infrastructure particularly home charging for the in-excess of 40% of UK households which won’t have off-street parking and would have to reply on what is currently more costly public charging. But people are increasingly finding EVs which fit their use case. In 2022 my use case was met when 10-80% charging could be done in 18 minutes with a DC public charger ( 239kW peak charging), when WLTP range was 321 miles and the car had reasonable cabin and boot space without being too long, OTA update capability and a luxurious interior- GV60. Others will be elsewhere on their EV journey- undecided, curious even dubious. But the adoption by fleet because of the advantages of running cost, the tax incentives given to businesses’ adoption of EV means economies of scale for the rest of us- cheaper EVs are already here. Tech is improving all the time -the new EV6 has a larger capacity battery which weighs the same or less than the version 4 years ago giving it even more range. 3-4 year old used EV are available at half their original retail price for those looking to buy rather than lease and finding new EV prices a barrier. Only 14.4% of cars on UK roads are 3 years old or less. It’s normal to buy used. www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/motorparc-vehicles-in-use-uk/ Great thing about a used EV no worries about clutch, timing belt, transmission being dodgy - EVs don’t have them. Many EV manufacturers will still have 2 or more years warranty on a 3 years old EV. We’ve seen EVs 8 years old with 400,000 miles on their original battery. Most EV manufacturers are giving 8 year battery warranties. In 10 years time if you think a repair to an EV battery might be needed how much cheaper than now do you think that’ll be? In 1999 a plasma TV was £5000. In 2024 they are £500! Tech gets cheaper with developments and economies of scale. Early adopters have pretty much already committed to EV, fleet has already committed to EV, the trick now is mass adoption where price, range, speed of charging and public charging infrastructure improving year on year will win over drivers as their use case is met. But that improvement needs to be driven (forgive the pun) hence the mandate.
Kia. Sister brand of Hyundai have been advertising their expensive. Kia EV9 everywhere and I’m sick of their ads They’ve spent a fortune on advertising and have sold a very low 534 cars in Australia (Jan-Nov 2024 Grok) That’s crazy for a large brand Hyundai Kia group really struggling to shift $100k plus cars that represent no value Chinese brands and Tesla are not even a competitor They dominate them in terms of sales Even the worse performing Chinese EV will outsell the Kia 9 and ionic 6 put together I think even the dumpster fire of a seller the Mach E would outsell both of them 😂
The Kia EV9 9s are about $30,000 too expensive. Zeekr 7X and XPeng G9 will be priced better and I believe will sell in decent numbers. They sell better in other markets like the US as they are better priced
Byd Seal is a 100kg-200 kg haevier behemoth. real world efficiency and range is no way near Ioniq 6 let alone Model 3. plus slow charging speed. and your byd might be a nightmare for the slave labours who assembled it. but still byd seal base price starts at 47k€ in germany while ioniq 6 is 44K €. buying chinese EVs doesn't make any sense and no one buys them in europe
Other way around down here in NZ. Base models retail price . BYD Seal $62,990, 34,172 € ioniq 6 $79,990, 43,394€ Plenty of discounting you can get both cheaper if you shop around .
Have always wondered why EVs cost so much more than ICE. They have less parts and it seems every man and his dog is able to put one together. China has put a reality check on legacy manufacturers trying to cash in on the hype.
You cannot sell an underpowered car for higher prices than the competition... they have no choice but to reduce pricing.. competition is great so for the people that like hyundai they now have the car they want at a better price..
I’m in Canada. They could be reducing prices even more but I will stay with petrol. The environmental savings are much over blown. Recharge is horrible slow on all of them. Costs high compared to petrol and they suck in cold climate and try to find someone to repair them. Maybe in five or so years but at the moment, how does the saying go? YOU COULDN’T GIVE ME ONE, even the ones that don’t regularly catch on fire.
Another great exemple of a sheep that can t make the difference between fact and conspiration theory. Do your due diligence, EV are 10 times less likely to catch fire than an ICE car. But the fire burn more
Look at the view of the car when it is driving down the road. It looks like the rear is bouncing up and down. It looks like an AI video, especially the front driving view.
The only way to get an EV is to lease it then you don’t have to worry about depreciation and unreliability. Let’s say you buy the car for $40,000 and in three years it’s worth 15,000 and your car gets totaled. That means you’ll be paying off a $40,000 note and the insurance company will give you 15,000.
The other way is to buy an EV and hold onto it forever. My 2018 Tesla Model 3 has 110k miles and still going strong. Original brakes still 90% good. No oil changes, no running costs. My solar provides over 50% of the juice my grid power is only 5% coal (dropping every year). I plan to hand it off in 2 years to my daughter who will turn 16. She will have it possibly 8 years. We’ll see.
@@nerdbikes3841 I agree buying a new EV now for the average working man (certainly in the UK) is only a viable option if looking to keep it long term. I’ll be retiring soon and anticipate my GV60 providing many years of low “fuelling” cost, low service cost and low maintenance cost motoring with no monthly payment. Leasing is great while you’re working or if unsure about EV motoring or indeed which EV is the right one for you or if you can benefit from a work lease scheme. But for the average working man a used EV purchase (say 3 - 4 years old) can make a lot of sense. The aforementioned low running costs at a purchase price typically half of a new one. My 2 half year old 23K miles GV60 is now available to buy at half what I paid for it new ( a used EV which did what this did back in 2022 wasn’t available which is why I bought new). Only 14.4% of cars on UK roads are less than 3 years old. Buying used is already a popular thing why not a used EV? www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/motorparc-vehicles-in-use-uk/
@@878Docto New EVs are being bought by fleet operators, business people for tax benefit and early adopters for the most part. Which is great as it gives the volumes for sales for economies of scale. In the same way a large panel TV 48” used to cost £5000 at Dixons back in 1999. Businesses especially IT intense ones adopted these early on for the low running costs despite the huge upfront costs and now a 55” panel TV can be picked up from Argos for a 1/10th of that price. Similarly for EVs prices will come down and non-early adopters will just need to wait till it becomes a viable option for them which is happening now for a lot of potential EV buyers- given the used market and new budget EVs coming out. The future is bright.
@@nerdbikes3841 Me too, bought our MYLR in 2022 to keep so depreciation isn't a thing for us, 45k, no issues, no maintenance although I have had to wash it, twice now!

They would drift around the yards and for months they said we can’t get the stock of them to sell but the reality was no one bought one
They look nice but drive like any cheap BYD they’re a bit cramped too because they’re a narrow smallish sedan
The ionic 5 retro look fat hatchback was more popular but they wanted over $100k for the quick models of these cars which was crazy then and still is now so the price reduction is probably for all the stock that has been sitting in holding yards decaying for the past couple of years

Good point. Same goes for oil and gas: why subsidize it instead of letting the market decide prices?
If oil is so good why does the US Government subsidize the oil industry and also provide free US Military escorts for oil tankers? Shouldn’t the oil industry not get these subsidies and actually pay for their own security?
It’s normal to buy used. www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/motorparc-vehicles-in-use-uk/
Great thing about a used EV no worries about clutch, timing belt, transmission being dodgy - EVs don’t have them.
Kia EV9 everywhere and I’m sick of their ads
They’ve spent a fortune on advertising and have sold a very low 534 cars in Australia (Jan-Nov 2024 Grok)
That’s crazy for a large brand
Hyundai Kia group really struggling to shift $100k plus cars that represent no value
Chinese brands and Tesla are not even a competitor
They dominate them in terms of sales
Even the worse performing Chinese EV will outsell the Kia 9 and ionic 6 put together
I think even the dumpster fire of a seller the Mach E would outsell both of them 😂
The Kia EV9 9s are about $30,000 too expensive. Zeekr 7X and XPeng G9 will be priced better and I believe will sell in decent numbers. They sell better in other markets like the US as they are better priced
Even with a $20k discount, the Ioniq 6 is still too expensive. No thanks.
It’d be around $199 per month on a lease, what new car is cheaper than that?
Byd Seal is a 100kg-200 kg haevier behemoth. real world efficiency and range is no way near Ioniq 6 let alone Model 3. plus slow charging speed.
and your byd might be a nightmare for the slave labours who assembled it.
but still byd seal base price starts at 47k€ in germany while ioniq 6 is 44K €.
buying chinese EVs doesn't make any sense and no one buys them in europe
Other way around down here in NZ.
Base models retail price .
BYD Seal $62,990, 34,172 €
ioniq 6 $79,990, 43,394€
Plenty of discounting you can get both cheaper if you shop around .
Hyundai 6 looks like crap no thanks
But the fire burn more
Cant dispute that. Some men prefer to live in caves
Whoever is feeding you this information thinks you are an idiot
Look at the view of the car when it is driving down the road. It looks like the rear is bouncing up and down. It looks like an AI video, especially the front driving view.
My Ioniq 6 drives great. Doesn't bounce around. Handles fantastically on snow and ice.
I agree, did the same.
@@nerdbikes3841 Me too, bought our MYLR in 2022 to keep so depreciation isn't a thing for us, 45k, no issues, no maintenance although I have had to wash it, twice now!
Aussies likes too much SUV like cars don't think Ioniq6 or sealion6 would sell well
Come on Hyundai Ioniq 3 🫴
It's HIGH TIME Hyundai offers a proper Ioniq 3, instead of the stupid looking superficial Kona EV !!!
A similar if not bigger & more comfortable EV3 size car, with looks like Ioniq 5/7/9, Autonomy of 600-700 Km, NACS Charging, would most likely be a Success in Sales...
Ps. I just hate the look & placement of the frontal charging cable base..
