    As a betta owner this is my favorite LFS! Small store but super high quality. Best prices around for plants too. I go here when I’m in the mood to spruce up my aquascape. Hope you had a great time in the neighborhood!

    My goldfish have lots of plants in their setup. It’s an indoor pond. Yeah sometimes they munch a little but I’ve found if they’re well fed they basically leave the plants alone.

    Always nice to see LFS from other countries(especially from US). But the fish prices in US are really high compared to my country(Myanmar). The price for such show grade goldfish never exceeds 30usd here. I even saw a shop selling a very rare paddlefish for around 35usd few days ago. We also have no restriction on what we can keep. If you can ship it, you can keep it.
    Thanks for the video, Alex.

    Would love to have a gold fish like that , just water is horrible here in Fl Keys …how often is required changes of the water for 120 gallon tank ? Or what filter is best ? I try had few from Petco that was sick and I treat them they was doing great till I change 1/3 of the water … and even my swordfish didn’t make it.
    Is it possible to treat old pipes rust water?
    What bottle water I can use? Someone recommended distilled water.

There has not had fantail goldfish in 1 1/2 years. I could drive to other pet shops, but it is hit and miss - for a 2 1/2 hour round trip. Nice to see the beautiful ones on your tour, thank you!

    Personally I’m not into buying animals with selectively bred health defects- flat faced dogs and cats- fish who have to have part of their heads surgically removed so they can see- bettas with such long fins that they rip and cause them to have difficulty breathing air in their later years…

    I dislike the water pugs (fancy goldfish) for the same reason I dislike canine pugs: if people are going to modify an animal, it should be benign changes at worst. These guys don't look "healthy"--they look extremely unhealthy. They look like they'll die in a moment's notice if they swallow a pellet at the wrong angle. It's nice that the shop wants to breed some hardiness back into them... but there's only so much they can do if they're going to insist on the fish being that shape. The shape is the problem.

    There are a TON of people in Japan who are getting into fish keeping, and often on a big scale. They have always been fish people in Japan, but it's getting much bigger according to a friend of mine who is a Japanese national. He tells me that it's to the place where most households have a tank and at least a couple of fish. He also says that he thinks it is kind of a fad thing, and that eventually it will fade out. At that point, exports of fish from Japan will probably become easy to get for awhile. I asked him if he had any guesses regarding when that might happen, but he didn't feel certain enough about it to put a date on it. Japan is experiencing a bit of a population crash at the moment, so it's possible that fish exports could increase with time simply because there won't be as many people to sell to domestically. I guess the bottom line is that they won't be in short supply forever.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Japan was once the foremost exporter of fish in the whole world...but then the tech industry took over.

    • @Chompchompyerded
      @Chompchompyerded ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Fishtory The tech industry is probably the reason that many Japanese can now afford aquariums. That, plus much smaller families. They now have a smaller average family size than most Western countries, with one kid being the usual case. It's not even a mandated thing like it was in China.

    Interesting video! 🙂 But fancy goldfish are not my thing at all. Sadly most of them look almost grotesque and unnatural to me. I also get stressed when it looks like fish have a hard time swimming.... Don't really like bettas with long fins for that reason either, and could never own one. I don't like the kind of breeding when you alter fish to this extent. My favourites are natural looking healthy nano fish 🥰

    I’ve tried so hard to try to subscribe to your channel as long is it like $2 a month or whatever but the problem is I have not subscribed to any channel ever in my life. Every time I try to ask for help no one can help me it’s like no one has ever subscribed to any channel but I don’t have many friends. I just have my 3 Perfect Babies & a few adults hang around. I swear I can tell you all about astrophysics & other topics involving intelligence but I just cannot make a simple paid subscription because I don’t mean the free subscribe “button” because I’ve tried all the “buttons” but the paid membership I just can’t figure it out. Father First told me how to go to discord which I figured out & I have made online purchases before. There’s just something I’m not getting. Well eventually I’m sure I’ll figure it out hopefully in a few months. I’ll be pretty distracted with family law matters for next few months but I sure do love seeing you & hearing your voice & singing on your channel.

    I’m honestly not slating anyone at all but it really makes me so sad to see those betta’s in cups. I know , I know … but you can see the evaporation marks and some were cloudy. I just think as a whole we can do better for these fish.
    I really hate the deformed goldfish too. Again no hate or anything , it’s just not my thing. I think most animals are gorgeous in the natural form, before we breed traits that hinder them. Like dogs that struggle to breathe for a short snout for example, it just makes me sad.
    I don’t doubt the shops care though , because the goldfish all looked really active and healthy.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well i agree with you, but someone brought up a very good point the other day:
      That all other than wild caught and a USA bred and raised bettas , are stored and grown kut this way.
      So short of buying from someone you know raised them in a big open pond or tank, they still spent 4 to 9 months in cups, overseas. The most crucial thing for their healtg is daily water changes and tannins realistically....if you want to keep them in breeding cups or display cups...otherwise youll end up killing them eventually.

    • @FishNshrimpfam
      @FishNshrimpfam ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fishtory I understand. My fish keeping comes from a place of enrichment and trying to replicate environment’s as closely as possible , not always doable , but at least it’ll be well planted with the correct substrate etc.
      From an enrichment point of view , a cup just doesn’t do it. Again I understand the why, it just makes me sad for the fish. Not everyone is diligent on the water changes and see the fish as disposable . I think this is why a lot of people struggle to keep betta’s healthy long term at home. They become accustomed to high nitrates , long term it weakens the fish and ultimately people feel like they are failing at fish keeping after the fish dies and they give up the the hobby.
      Anyway, rant over 😊 it’s not an aimed at anyone rant , just a general feeling of frustration.

    Re the goldfish I think we have modified them so much that it happens the same as with certain cat and dog breeds. They can’t swim properly, see properly, they have issues eating, choke on everything… they are super delicate and frankly dumb. Are they cute? Kinda. In a cartoonish kind of way… was it necessary to create this “monstrous” beings that can’t even have gravel or decoration in their tanks? Hell no. Just my humble opinion though…. It’s cruel
