They are widely kept as exotic pets. The 20 animals were surrendered by their owners between 2015 and 2018. After passing a series of medical exams and a rehabilitation process, they were then transferred to Masigit-Kareumbi Conservation Forest Area and kept in enclosures to adapt to their natural habitat. The forest is a protected area with an appropriate ecosystem for their recovery. Conservationists will observe the animals for up to four weeks to see if they are ready to be released into the wild.

Javan slow lorises are widely kept as exotic pets even though they are protected primates. What are your thoughts on these lorises being released back into the wild?

I think they have to be very carefully with other animals which could damage their integrity...but they could survive. .

Did they have their teeth and poison glands? I'm worried... 😟

Really good news on the release. Great job done by the rescuers and providing them rehabilitation to live back in the wild. Hope these cute little guys survive out there. Thanks for sharing National Geographic.

Sovereign Sentience , more pressure needs to be put on China , they illegally trade in everything from bear bile to Pangolins. The problem with having lots of money is that it allows dumb people to be even dumber. The Nouveau Riche don’t care about endangered species.

I just hope their 'owners' didn't remove their poison glands ... many do. Though I expect without them, they wouldn't have made good candidates for release.
      Either way, Go, loris Go!

:) This is wonderful! I hope so much that they all were ready to be released into the natural world, and are living the way they were intended. Just a concern of mine; did these lorises still have their teeth? :( In the pet trade their teeth are clipped so they can't bite, because they're venomous.
