I'm not sure what is your intention here... How should be The Hybrid Shooter and other reviewers more honest? Nikon hunting and slow focusing is clearly visible in his video. Do you want him to lie and say that there is no hunting just to make Nikon fanboys happy?
He didn't choose that test to make Nikon fail, he does the same test with every camera that he tests on his channel... You, on the other hand, have clearly manipulated settings to make the Sony perform worse. The scene that you chose is weird to say the least. Why didn you use Auto ISO on Nikon in the first test but not on Sony? Why are you deliberately overexposing or underexposing every Sony shot in this video.... Nikon focusing at 3:35 appears to be sped up, judging by the speed at which the exp. compensation changes. Not to mention that you have underexposed Sony again. This is really sad.

I am happy that like your A7iii! That’s awesome! You have 3 points here: 1) Why do I disagree with other reviewers. 2) Why such a weird test? 3) And why no auto iso?
Here you go: 1) I did my own test and the results are here for you to see. I find other reviewers a bit motivated. I just shared my experience. I could have no chosen to share as well. 2) My weird little test is a common compositional technique. To shoot a person between a door and a wall... haha no my friend that’s not weird. Ask any wedding photographer or photojournalist. But yes it’s very confusing for any camera. 3) Auto iso? Does that bother you? That’s just SNR! Sony had the advantage of more light (signal) with a 1.4 lens and it was a native lens. The Nikon used a 1.8 lens that too adapted! And you’re worried about ISO? Ok look at the Z6 beat the Sony a7iii at -1.5 ev. The face was completely dark. For get the Z6II. How did the Z6 do it? Come back with a better argument. What’s sad is the 7 fake like ma you got to your comment. My channel is really not big enough for your comment to get 7 likes within half an hour of posting that comment. Live and let live man!

      @@FramesTM I don't own A7 III.
      1) so did he, with his standardized procedure and with same settings (unlike you). I find you a bit motivated. My question was what should they say when they see that Sony is simply performing better. Should they lie?
      2) Ok, if that is what you choose, although I don't think that it is very representative situation.
3)Sony had much larger disadvantage of shallower depth of field. That by itself makes your test irrelevant. Yes, I am bothered by Auto ISO because the AF has much easier job when it can choose exposure. Forget Z6 II. The question (that I just answered) is why A7 III didn't do it. It is also funny how you cut Sony sample at 0:55 when it was starting to acquire the focus :)
I shred this in a FB group, so the likes are probably from there.

    • @FramesTM
      @FramesTM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I found the review you’re talking about quite skewed. And I know that the actual performance is far from the truth.
To answer your main question: What should I say if I see that the Sony didn’t perform as well and the Z6?
Now, let’s get one thing clear: if a system has a 1.4, then it’s bodies must be designed to work with that DOF. More light is NOT a disadvantage. It’s an advantage. If more light is a disadvantage then why have you been complaining about ISO? That’s not even actually light! 🙂 Did you ask your favourite reviewer how he concluded that Z6II’s 4K 60 is not so good quality? Where was the test? Did you also ask him, why his colour tests didn’t include skin colour tests? Not so objective as you claim maybe isn’t it!
Anyhow, good talking to you. Take care! Explained enough.

    • @liveandletlift370
      @liveandletlift370 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@FramesTM No, you didn't explain anything. I find this video extremely skewed and results to be very far from truth, that is not an answer.
I asked you first, so you are the one who should answer, you are the one calling others dishonest.
Again, shallow depth of field makes the focusing more difficult, incorrect exposure also makes the focusing more difficult. Sorry, but I prefer to trust reviews with equal conditions, others have also pointed that out.
I rewatched his review, he showed both skin color sample and 4K 60p sample.

I'd like to ask your truly honest opinion. I am a hobbyist landscape photographer. I have a Z6. I don't want more than a 24Mp camera. Although the Zf looks very appealing to me, I was thinking of upgrading to a Z6 II. The reason is that the AF on the Z6 sometimes struggles, especially when I shoot videos for TH-cam. Also, when I shoot people, like live music gigs with high ISO in low-light, it is hard for me to trust the AF of the original Z6. The Z6 II now comes at a very competitive price. It is at 1100 Euros or 97,906.15 Rupees. The Zf comes at 1800 Euros or 160,210.08 Rupees. So, what would you do, personally? Would you buy a Z6 II and spend the rest of your available money elsewhere? Or buy the Zf which definitely is a less ergonomic camera with fewer buttons etc.

I think after Z9 Nikon should announce Z6III because A7iv is already released and I don't think after releasing a 45mp sensor Z9 it make sense release another high megapixel camera like Z7III or Z8 with 50/60mp sensor. because that will slow and you know 4k video out of high MP sensor used to be softer. a 25/30mp Z6III make more sense with Z9 autofocus, without mechanical shutter and evf with real time view without any delay or blackout. 6k/4k 10bit N-Raw video internal recording for future proofing the camera. it will get very popular in content creators who do photography and make video/films. maybe Nikon will endup dropping 2 cameras together but there is big need to have a Z6III to compete with these mid range FF Mirrorless cameras.

    • @FramesTM
      @FramesTM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You make sense. I think Z7III could be that photo centric high res camera. And Z6III will become the entry level prosumer body. There is a gap and that gap is in a 1. video powerhouse do it all body than can do 4k 120/240 with internal 10bit and raw. And 2nd gap is a pro crop body.
One thing is clear. Nikon’s lineup isn’t clear right now.

@@FramesTM yes , and Nikon should not waste too much time. at least they should announce something because there are many people i see on reddit communities and in YT comment section who are Nikon users but can't afford Z9 or don't need it and they are in a situation where they may endup switching to other brand. everyone talking about 50/60mp Z7III or Z8 but Z6III is what Nikon need for Photo/Video shooters. but 6k 60fps 10 bit internal to future proof it. and its not something impossible as some articles says N-Raw will take less storage then other Raw video codec and expeed 7 on Z6III will be powerful enough to handle it. many D750/780 users and Z6 users will switch to it.

Nikon Z cameras are fucking beautiful. Yes, the first gen AF was not up to par in SOME applications. For example, I shoot wildlife and I simply cannot compare my D500 or D850 AF to that of my Z6. But for virtually any other application, the Z cameras are a thing of immeasurable beauty. Nikon just does it right. The colors. The ergonomics. The picture quality. Everything is just gorgeous. I have had the Canon 5D mk IV as well as Sony A7R3 but I just cannot get used to Sony or Canon. I am a long time Nikon user and currently use a D750 and D850. I've been reluctant to migrate to the Z series bodies for several reasons. Perhaps the first should be because Nikon is pretty far behind SONY and CANON. Second is I have a lot a F mount glass and do NOT want to have to replace those lenses. At best, I would keep all that glass and use the FTZ mount to adapt the F mount lenses to the larger Z mount and then start buying native Z lenses.
Despite being a long time Nikon user, I am not so blind that I apologize for their several well known failings that include arrogance, hubris, being late to the mirrorless game and severe problems with their supply chain. Likewise, Nikon is a much smaller company than either SONY or Canon and its many mistakes have helped magnify (no pun intended) their financial problems. I sincerely hope Nikon can fix its problems as I would hate to see them go the way of Minolta and Olympus.

    • @FramesTM
      @FramesTM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Naah I don’t buy that. Nikon doesn’t produce attitudes like arrogance and hubris. Those are myths created by that Angry guy. Mistake that comes to mind is not marketing well and not capturing the content creator market with cheap hybrid cameras early on. Because those are the people who produce nonsense like “Nikon will go out of business” as if they have any idea about what they’re talking about. I did two videos with deep analysis of their financials and heir culture. Every point that I speak is backed by data. Not my insecurity about Nikon nor the fanboy chemistry for Sony or Canon or Fuji. I actually like Sony. But they’re not durable. I like Fuji. But they’re overhyped. I don’t like Canon because they seem to push people to buy more unnecessary.
The questions that you should ask yourself: 1. Is Z system better than the D cameras. 2. Can I use most of those lenses? 3. Do I need 10bit 422 and RAW video? And for bragging rights: Can I wait 6 months for Z9?

    • @paulconnors2078

@@FramesTM I don't do video so that aspect of the Z bodies is of no importance to me. Nikon is an ARROGANT company. I also happen to know quite a few people who work for them or worked for them as in past tense. I am not insecure about Nikon and I take the Angry Photographer's comments with a grain of salt. One thing you need to realize is he does not have ANY AFFILIATE links, so he makes no money whatsoever from manufacturers. So with that in mind, neither you nor anyone else can accurately state he's a FANBOY. I am quite a bit older than you so I've seen Nikon in action over the past 50 years and their hubris has been in play for years. They believed that they were the best and in accordance with that mindset and in the pre-mirrorless days, they only worried about one company and that was CANON. SONY has changed that dynamic forever. Think and spew what you want, but Nikon was too late to mirrorless to catch up, let alone actively compete. Additionally, their first gen Z cameras with their single card slots, no battery grip attachment capability and at the time, very limited native lens offerings meant that staying in the game long term would be problematic. The one smart thing they did provide with the release of the Z system was the FTZ adapter.
I am a fan of Nikon but not a fanboy. I am involved in IT and Technology procurement and Nikon's supply chain issues are almost legendary and they went all the way back to pre-digital days. And as a reminder of their ongoing financial problems, Nikon continues to downsize their workforce in the USA and decrease the staffing of Nikon Professional Services. Nikon is pretty far behind Sony and Canon? Hmm.. Don't think so, but that's not the Point. The original Z6 is so much better in Autofocus as your D750, there is absolute no Reason for you not to change. Coming from a D750, you will love the Z6. It's so much better. There is no Problem using old Nikon Lenses with FTZ on the Z-System. It's true, it's not the best Performance you can get with a Z Camera, but you lose nothing compared to a D750.
The Autofocussystem of your D850 is sligthly a little bit better as Z7, but direct compared with a Z7II, i think again the Z-System wins.

@@PatrickFeldhusen Actually, yes Nikon is still lagging behind SONY and Canon Nikon fanboy. I don't do video, so what is the compelling reason for me to go mirrorless at this time? None that I can see. Yes, I know I can get the FTZ adapter which allows me to use F mount glass, but one of the main reasons for the Z mount is that it is so much bigger and the lens flanges closer to the sensor allowing for light gathering. That said, Nikon STILL does NOT have a large stable of native Z mount glass and SONY beat both Canon and Nikon to the starting line by having more glass available. So, yes, Nikon is STILL behind SONY in that regard.
The Nikon Z6 and Z7 first generation cameras had a lot of limitations that turned people off, myself included. SONY and CANON Eye AF is still more developed and refined than Nikon's is. Maybe with the 3rd generation Zs from Nikon will deserve me taking a look but the type of photography I do does NOT make a compelling reason for me to abandon my DSLRs for Nikon's 1st and 2nd Gen mirrorless bodies.
Here's another thing to keep in mind: Nikon's pro-level Z9 has not yet been released and Nikon continues to cut their R & D budgets. So then, how do you expect to compete and stay even with SONY and Canon? The answer is this: they can't.
As for reasons to change, you also omitted cost factors and how will new gear improve my photography? The cost to switch (at this time) is a compelling reason NOT to. The fact that I don't do video at all also means that the video capabilities of the Z6ii are a non-starter. Quite frankly, your argument is a very weak one and just your opinion. You are entitled to your own opinion but you are not entitled to your own facts.

I don‘t think anybody with their minds set straight would deny that the R5 has better AF than any current Nikon. The problem which this video is addressing is that many outlets on youtube make you believe that all Sony cameras down to the A7III deliver the same AF performance. From my experience the only thing the A7III‘s AF can clearly do better than the Z6II is its lock on tracking. Especially on telelenses Nikon’s tracking box is mostly useless, while Sony‘s works pretty well

If the camera offers Eye AF, why wouldn't anyone use it in that situation? The advantage of tracking is it holds the focus point, freeing up the photographer up to concentrate on composition and not moving focus points around. And, we're in the context of testing tracking features here.
Single point is fine - but Eye AF is much more useful for dynamic subjects (toddlers, moving subjects etc.). I think there's a use case for all AF modes.

you said Jarred did not use right settings - I have a73 a7r3 z6ii. and have no problem with focusing between a door gap with Sonys . I mostly use Flex spot vs wide area and yes if you focus on a white wall all systems will struggle. on your test with camera on bed you had Sony a73 -1.0 and Nikon at plus one and white balance totally different - so not a fair equal test - not saying that invalidated results totally but why not use same settings and you are using wide area on Sony vs a box on Nikkon
just don't get why on your side by side comparison like girl walking from distance. your ISO on Sony was 250 and one stop exposure while Nikon iso 800 and exposure plus 2
and actually you had the wrong Labels - you had Sony all over exposed which means it is harder to focus yes Nikon has improved by firmware updates but as using both I say that the Sony focusing is better - as I find it more logical what mode to use and when vs Z6 requires more thinking and changes
yes Nikon is very close in most ways - and of course the A73 is an older camera - it is possible that in some few cases that the Z6 might do marginally better but my experience is that I can rely a bit more on the Sony a73 AFC as I do seldom have to change settings
It is hard to do comparisons unless both cameras on same tripod and with exact settings and even then not totally fair as background might be a food a part and can impact
Glad to see Nikon improving AFC and yes A74 will sure have improved tracking and focus - but the main thing now is both cameras the A73 and Z6 are both fantastic cameras
and sub $2000 - but Sony FE system has just so many native FE lenses both from Sony and Viltrox and Tamron and Sigma and others that consumer has wider selection and price ranges to choose from - yes Nikon is adding some more but still very few native to choose from

The narrative flips when you see that Sony's E mount is 11 years old. Z mount is 3.5 years old. Sony's A7iii is their 3rd Gen. But Z6II is 2nd Gen. There's at least 4K 60. None in A7iii. There's no camera offering 4K full frame readout @USD2000. At this price point, the sensor is a limitation. It's Sony's own sensor that Nikon tweaked. Very importantly, one would happy to compare the 2nd gen Nikon with 4th Gen Sony A7IV, IF its here. It ain't. Therefore, this complaint is irrelevant. End of the day, for the same money, The Nikon is way more value. And post processing takes 1/3rd of the time dealing with Nikon's files compared to Sony's files. That's been my experience, any anyone who puts in post efforts.
On the lens front, let's not compare Nikon's 1.8s with Canon's and Sony's. Those 1.8s are just basic in comparison. Sony 55 1.8 is good. But again not as good as the Z 50mm. Nikon didn't have 26 35 f2.8 for the F mount too! I would like that lens too! Every system is different and has its own problems. But we tend to cherry pick problems for one brand and good things about others. That's not cool. Cheers!

If you are trying sell nikon, you are doing a good job. Please learn how to shoot the Sony first before you compare them. The sad thing There's over hundreds of people buying your BS nonsense.
Let go back to the comparison.
    No.1
At 2.21 you had the sony AF area to the door and it's at fexible spot which is a tiny area and Nikon at full area.
    No.2
At 3:32 you had nikon over expose by almost +1 EV and sony -1EV. Every current photographer know if you need right EV to Af well. I don't know what you did with the light but there's definately a 2 stop EV different.
    No.3
At 4:05 you over expose the sony more than 2 stop. you can clearly see the Ev blinking. and by the look of the sony you are at s-log2 or 3 profile.
WHAT I LEARN IS THAT THEY ARE PEOPLE GOES TO DISTANT TO PROVE TO OTHERS THAN THEIR PREFERED CAMERA BRAND IS MORE SUPEROIR THAN OTHER BRAND.
AND ALL THE TH-camRS ARE TAKING MONEY FROM COMPANIES TO PROMOTE THE CAMERA EXPECT YOU.

Hey Chen, point 1. I said in the video that the eye af and the tracker are set to two buttons. I have no reason to push the tracker while trying to activate eye af. Nikon’s eye af works only in wide area and in wide L. Wide L is not a fair comparison, therefore wide area is used.
      2. At 2:17 can you see the older, first Gen Z6 get the face af with -1.5 ev? If Z6 can do it why can’t the A7III?
      3. I didn’t shoot in log. Picture profile was set to off. An Atomos ninja V was recording the shoot. And, in my experience, unless you’re blown out, pattern detection has no problem in +2 EV.
I am not the one to ever say that there’s nothing more to learn. But for this case, these are the facts. About 2 weeks backs, someone told me ISO has no impact on auto focus. Today what YOU say implies, that ISO has so much impact that it’s making the Sony missfocus.
You’re right. ISO helps Mirrorless cameras. But +2 ev doesn’t cause af problems. Try it.
Now since you said “it’s my BS”; I invite your to take your time to explain points 1,2, and 3. I give you your lifetime. But don’t come back with BS. Here’s your task:
      1. Explain to me why pushing the eye af button apparently activates the tracker, when tracking is set to another button.
      2. How come Z6 is fine with -1.5 ev but dear A7iii needs to be delicately handled there?
      3. Submit any proof for focus problems in over exposure. I can do a video showing Nikon’s is fine on that.
      4. How many times did you call BS on bad tests done on ‘Sony channels’? You can DM the screenshots at @StoryFrames on Insta.
      Cool?

The A73 could not beat the Z6 after the Z6 got firmware 2.0, so why would anyone even try to compare it against the Z6II? I had the A73, and currently have the Z6 and Z6II. To say the A73 is "legendary" can only be true if only Sony existed. Lenses, actually, are the biggest shortcoming of E mount cameras.

I what way are lenses the biggest shortcoming of emount when it has by far the largest selection of native options on mirrorless?

@@joe2snj There is no argument that Sony does not have the most E mount lenses for E mount cameras. That is wonderful. Problem is that the vast majority of them are absolute garbage. It is literally just a handful of good to great lenses. RF and Z while having a lot less lenses overall for their respective mount cameras, the number of good to great lenses respectively and individually exceeds what Sony has respectively and individually for its system. And when you include adaptation of EF and F (many of which have no loss of functionality on the new mounts), this is no contest. Canon and Nikon each have a far larger quantity of good to great lenses available right now (with no significant loss of functionality) for their RF and Z bodies. So, yes, Sony has more E lenses for E bodies. Canon and Nikon each have more good to great RF and Z lenses for RF and Z bodies respectively. Add the EF and F fully functioning adaptable lenses to RF and Z respectively, and Sony is actually way behind. Another good point in this discussion is that RF and Z are built for the future, while E is built for the past. 25 years ago E mount would have been on par with the competition. Today its a dinosaur. The YT shills don't want you figuring that out, because they want you to buy into it and then a year from now they will want you to sell it and buy something else. Make sure to click their affiliate link! I have nothing against Sony. My first digital cameras way back when were Sony, and I really wish Sony had a modern mount for FF. But no mistake, E mount already became obsolete. Its already happened.

@@KungPowEnterFist If you are saying that the majority of emount lenses are garbage you clearly don’t shoot Sony, that is simply not true at all.
As for emount being already obsolete then why is it also used in pro grade cinema cameras? How come Sony are able to design and engineer lenses and that match and some cases exceed what’s available on RF or Z mount?
Canon to their credit have made a few lenses that are unusual but what have Nikon made on Z mount that’s different? Sony have gone the route of giving us shooters what we want and need yet innovating with things like dual linear motors and smaller and more compact designs.
By all means praise RF and Z mount but don’t spread falsehoods about Sony because that makes you a shill, the very thing you have accused others of being.

Very interesting to hear your thoughts about the Z6ii. I have one and cant fault its eye detect and AF in general use, but just did a comparison video against an R6 as I felt it struggled with fast moving subjects so put it against the Canon. I really want Nikon to step up the AF as their sensors and lenses are incredible th-cam.com/video/ZbNoMXrHwVk/w-d-xo.html
