I started DJ'ing in 1986 and in a record pool here in Los Angeles. Look, the rumbling was there. The video (Poison) had dropped on BET and that was all she wrote. Nobody had heard anything like that before, rough rap beats, 808, , melodies and rap lyrics (think Cool it Now). Ron Devoe and Michael Bivins were already HUGE rap fans and like hanging out with Philly and New York rappers. That sh*t still bangs today, especially the remixes by Wolf and Epic and Marley Marl.

I’m hearing that they are supposed to be writing a book of their adventures as BBD. You never heard of any trouble with them but they were wild as hell. In a recent interview Rickey Smiley asked them who in the group “got them hands.” They said usually Ron is the peacemaker but he “got hands” 😂 I was like whaaa?! 😂

"Poison" is such a groundbreaking track its crazy. First it basicly created the 90s New Jack Swing style and made it more street and edgy. In the 80s New Jack Swing was more rnb and slightly pop until BBD. They took the genre from Suits to Hip Hop street clothes. Another thing is Spyderman and Freeze actually went unknown to producing another huge song "I wanna Sex you up" Color Me badd the following year. The song also has so many quotes and memorable lines and melodies.

It didn't create the new jack swing. That was already in effect by the late 80s. New Edition had New Jack Swing songs on N.E. Heartbreak. Teddy Riley created it and it showed on Guy's first album.

They Were UNPARALLELED. Overalls With The Airbrushed Designs And Colors, They Wore One Sneaker On One Foot And Another Sneaker On The Other, Baseball Caps, The Whole Thing. Besides "Poison", "She's Dope! (EPOD Mix)" Is My FAVORITE. Marley Marl Went IN On That One. Much Respect to BBD. Much Respect to NE. Been a Young Fan Since 2008.

I guess he’s talking about pop stations because radio I grew up on in the 80’s played r&b with raps in them all the time.

KMEL and WILD 107 were both around, might have been KSOL still but the BAY was already rockin rap and rnb on the stations.

I was 16 and this was one of like 4 cassettes I owned and loved back in 1990-91....PE's Fear of a Black Planet, Pac's Strictly for my n*ggaz, I think Ice-T's Iceberg lol, and BBD's Poison. Wasn't supposed to be playing the first 3 in the house because of moms and with the lyrics, but she loved her some BBD lol.

Poison is the greatest R&B song of all time. Ricky's wife being there is distracting because she's eye candy haha He held her hand/forearm at one point, but then let go completely seconds later....like what are y'all thinking?

I remember when they all split and then Ralph Tresvant was supposed to be the one to break out. He performed his new song on a tv show and I remember me and friends going, is that it? Then the other members came out with theirs and just blew him away.
