FYI I love your approach to showing us how easy some of project can be if you take your time and follow the proper steps. Now you have me on a hunt for a cheap Pac-Man to try this one out.
I dont know if its been said but heres a tip for doing guide holes where you dont go too far wrap a piece or tape around the drill bit where you want to stop for depth if that makes sense.
Great Video! Thanks for taking time to show all the work! I did a very similar mod to my centipede cabinet. Almost exactly the same process. I just added a new trackball. One other thing that really helps game play, is that I installed 2 joysticks, one for 4 way playing games and one for 8 way playing games.
Another tip if you put blue painters masking tape on the under side while drilling the holes for the buttons and joystick it won't break chunks off like yours did a bit there. Great video.
What I like to do is go half way through until the pilot part of the but pokes through and flip the board and use the pilot hole to line up the bit on the bottom side and finish drilling the hole
Nice idea with the double sided tape. I didn’t have any and had no money so had to lay the board upside down on something high and then putting the joystick in while I could see underneath..
Nice video! Fun to see how the Jamma setup works, and I haven't tried that route yet. I was thinking this morning about a possible Pac-Man mod if I end up being able to buy that cabinet, so finding this video was great :) Thanks! +subbed
I use 24" Spade Bits for Button holes have been since 1999 first Mame Cab, A Hole Saw for Trackball's Jigsaw for cutting the Cabinet shape, TableSaw for kickpanel, and Piece's, and not much more is needed, Artwork Vinyl Wrap or Decals can be done at Home or Print Shop, if you Want it You build it,
LOL yea it is always the little things like double sided sticky tape that are a pain and aggravate the crap outta me ! Paradise arcade shop sells adaptor plates to make new controllers fit the old screw holes. There not really important for arcade 1up control panels since they aren't drilled through the top.
Ralph...I need major help..I can't seem to find the correct vertical LCD monitor board that you used for this mod...if you have the model number for the one you used in this arcade 1 up pac man mod...I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Hi Ralph! Great video, thank you! Couple of questions: 1. Can I add one of Glen's Tron joysticks instead of the joystick you use? 2. Can I add one of his spinners also, kind of like an extra button I guess? 3. I don't have the template to drill the holes at the beginning, what could I use instead? Thank you for your time!!!
For the HDMI LCD Controller.Board, what AC adapter should I use? I already have the board but cant get it to work. Can you provide a link with the proper AC adapter to buy? I'd appreciate it a lot!
Would it be better to mod one of these lil games, I saw the centipede one for 199 the other day, or do a complete build from scratch. I wouldn’t mind a full size if it has hundreds of games rather than 3 little ones with 4 games each. Thanks
We just purchased the 40th Anniversary Pacman 1up Arcade. I love it but the sound even at 1 is still way too loud. I've heard there maybe some sort of owners or pcb menu like in Mortal Kombat that allows you to adjust the master volume level. But I have not been able to find out how to access this menu if it exists. Do you know how to access this menu on Pacman please and thanks?
Hi Ralph! What system do you recommend for ease and quality of the games. Mainly the top 60 classics. Should I go with Jamma or Pandora? I am going to make a cabinet and I have an extra arcade 1up monitor. I really want a cab that I can play my classics on as well as possibly a few others later on such as battletoads, road runner, Qbert. What I dont want is like hundreds of games to have to sort through. This will just be a custom multicade of my favorite games. Iam trying to keep it simple as this will be my first build. Thanks for the tips man.
Well I think the 60 in 1 does a great job with the classics. It's a better collection of classics than the Pandora's box. I feel the PB has side-scrolling beat em' up's and fighting games covered but for classics, you're better off with the 60 in 1.
On ETA Prime's video, he said to NOT mount the Video Encoder on the metal back of the monitor but you clearly do - who's right? And did you just tape it on with insulating tape ?. I've got some double sided sticky pads ..
Hi Ralph thanks for the videos again. Sorry if you already mentioned it, but did you use the same drill bit to make the new button holes on the plexiglass cover?
Medic7000 Great question and thanks for your support of the channel. I haven’t done the plexi cover yet. I don’t think I would use that drill bit for the plexi though. I think it would crack the plexi due it its design. I can’t say this for certain because I haven’t done it yet but I would think a hole saw would do the trick. Might be good to put something underneath the plexi when you drill into it to avoid cracking.
Sorry if you mentioned in the video already but wasn’t the game Elf a POS as you mentioned in your first video? Is this a different version or does it run slow like the other one? Also, I saw a video of a guy running arcade1up with an android g-box and was wondering if you ever used it? Thanks for all the videos!
Medic7000 Good memory 😉 I do mention the game elf (horizontal) in the video. This is the vertical version of the game elf. It’s actually a lot better than the other board I tested. It’s not perfect and it has some Issues but it’s much more enjoyable than its horizontal brother. 👍🏻. I own a g-box as well, It’s not something I’ve done a lot of testing on so I can’t say much... yet. I will probably do a review on it at some point. Thanks for watching and for supporting the channel.
Great videos, I have the Pac-Man cab as well. Never modified anything game related. Looked into the pyb site and they have the whole 60 in 1 kit. Would you recommend that versus buying all the separate listed Amazon parts to do an inexpensive mod? And for first timers game elf? Pandora's box? Or the blee 60-1? Thanks.
Sean W Good catch man... I changed it but I forgot to mention it in the video. I will make sure to mention the joystick 🕹 configurations in future videos.
Are you using the monitor that came with the 1up cabinet? How is that hooked up can you show please? I plan on modding my pacman to a MAME machine but if i can avoid having to buy another monitor that has VGA that would save some cash. Basically going to have an old computer sit inside the cabinet. I have the boards, wires, buttons and joysticks for the mod. Just not sure on what to do with the monitor as it uses a ribbon cable to connect.
Give it a hot man, you can do it! It's a little scary at first but if you take your time, you shouldn't have any problems. What type of mod did you have in mind?
Game Elf Horizontal is SUPER laggy... the Vertical board is better but still has some issues. I would just stay away from the horizontal Game Elf Board. I tried the adapter and corrected the grounding issues... still acts the same. You would be better off with a 3A games version of a Pandora's Box 6 if you want Plug N' Play. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
Arcade1up must think people are going to play these games in a hurricane. Mine had a ton of glue as well. I used a hairdryer to heat up the glue after removing the screws, that did the trick. That's a good tip for next time :-) Sorry I failed to mention that in the video. Thanks for watching man!
@@christophersoper that sucks sorry man, could try a soldering iron to melt the glue. Sure it would not do wonders for the iron, but it would get the job done.
Sorry this video is almost a year old so it’s possible that the links are no longer active. I will see if so can refresh them sometime this afternoon, sorry about that.
Constructive criticism, if you are trying to run a channel, at least invest in a decent microphone. I am on a 9.1 surround sound with volume set at a level that I can hear, however your voice is quiet, it might be better on my office PC as just a mono speaker, but on high end equipment, you are coming out far too low.

MensRoom Arcades I was a little nervous to use a hole saw on the brittle wood of the 1up. It likes to chip. I will give it a shot next time if you recommend it though. 👍🏻
Sara Thomas Thanks for the tip. So far it hasn’t been an issue since it was on the side that no one’s sees. I appreciate the tip though... I will probably switch to a hole saw.
Maybe in your eyes, but still fun to mod and play with! Love my modded Street Fighter Arcade 1up cab!! Obviously I love my own personal mame cab I built out of 3/4 mdf and happ buttons n joysticks, but I definitely enjoyed modded the arcade 1up cab!
Pro tip: clamp a board on bottom where you are gonna drill out the hole. No blowout will happen if you do this. Makes for clean cuts on both sides.
I love modding these. I've done 2 already, and it's mesmerizing to watch other people do it.
