Steps to get Retropie working on your Arcade 1up Machine
1)Buy a Arcade 1up machine, remove stock computer on back of monitor, and stock buttons and joystick or Make a box yourself. Buy Parts (Raspberry Pi 3 or 3 B+ kits) 2x zero delay Usp encoders for joysticks or a Arcade stick set with encoders, Mirco SD card for Pi of atleast 128 Gig, Amp / power supply with 3.5mm or mp3 input, HDMI / VGA Board. Put it all together ETAPrime makes a good video on this here. • Arcade1UP Raspberry P...
2)Download image via torrent or download a retropie stock image and then later upload your own roms. You can find complete .78 Mame and Final Burn Aphla fairly easy. The one in this video is here www.arcadepunk...
Then hit Clt F on keyboard to search
"[128gb] RetroRama Rampage v2 (RetroPie 4.4 Stretch) 9-2-18-James"
3)Use Etcher Portable program (free) to Burn Image to SD card. Install card to Pi
4)Boot up system and let it run for atleast 5 mins. It should start up. If it dosen't restart, and it should work.
5)Setup controller, and connect to wifi (see video)
6)Go into Retropie setup See video and turn off overlays and shaders (This image above will have them on by default) Set Ratio for the different emulators to 4:3)
7)Connect to your Pi via wifi (b+) and add roms to the correct folders.
8)Connect a keyboard and press Alt F4
9)Type sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh go to manage packages, and opt packages. Scroll down to scraper and install.
10)While connected to the internet (wifi) run scraper for added rom emulator (Change scraper settings to Arcade source = ArcadeItalia, Console Source = ScreenScraper, Use Rom Folder = Enabled, and Download video = Enabled)
11) Test Roms, and emulators
12) Enjoy, and remember to safe shutdown (See Video) Oh and Like and subscribe :P

Nope it will have all the games. Just will have to config controls and take off the overlay (crt filter unless you like it) and bezels.

Hey Boss, great informative video. I'm using a smaller 32gb image with just arcade games (wolfanoz 32gb for retropie). Just curious how you set up your buttons. I know many games don't use as many buttons as streetfighter, but I would like to setup my buttons so that the streetfighter games would work exactly as original cabinet buttons. You have the 3 top punch buttons and the 3 bottom kick buttons...which letter, etc did you assign each of the buttons when you set it up? Thanks

Yes, you can assign the 6 buttons as a, b, x, y, right shoulder and left shoulder

I've got question. If I buy a keyboard for my raspberry pi 3 retropie will I be able to add additional cheat codes for games without the need for a computer ? Meaning simply typing in the codes with the keyboard. Thank you
with the buttom mapping, you use added button for 'select'? Do you skip using a hot key at all? Ty!
no use the coin button for both the select and hotkey. It should let you. The button will actually be start and select at sametime. If i remember correctly I will double check if this doesn't work for you.

Your video is great but I think it is too advanced for me at this time. :) I'm brand new to Retro Pi. I set up the joysticks directions and buttons when I first turned on. I'm able to move around with the joystick but the Arcade Classics games I can't use the joystick (buttons are fine) but Mame games I can use joystick/buttons. Could you point me to where do I go to set up joysticks to work for all? Thank you for your help!
I recently bought a marvel arcade 1up cabinet.I bought all the stuff to mod it.When I got it all together my raspberry pi 4 won't let me configure my sticks or buttons.I wired both player1 and player2 the same.My arcade 1up does boot up and it shows the options to configure my sticks and buttons,but for some reason it won't let me.Do you know what I did wrong?This is my first time modding in arcade.

For some reason, I cant get my buttons to act correctly. Maybe two of them work but I cant get to configuration because I cant select it. Any help?
You mentioned decompiling in this video. Does this happen when you first insert the SD card? By chance is the red light flashing? I guess I've always assumed that it didn't work? Should I just be leaving the card in and assume everything is fine?
So some images are compressed and expand when you start the system for the first time. Aka all the operating files and roms. It should only do this the first time. If you plug in a new image on a sd card and boot it up and it just kind of hangs though start up just let it sit there for about 5 mins. Then reboot the system and see if it works. I didn't have to do this with this image I downloaded and put in description. But I know MANY of them do need this done.

Cool. Thanks so much for the info. Basically I've been in image flash hell for last two weeks. I know it's an easy fix but can't seem to get things to work on my B+. Question. When format a card Fat32 do you simply do quick format? Question. When you get the BitTorrent image do you unpack it or flash the exact image to an sd card?

@@Spokane3D Quick flash, bittorrent then unzip it and use the image file via Etcher Portable program to the sd card.
Have you ever unpacked a BitTorrent disk image and found up to 10 parts? I heard somewhere that the image you need is part one?
@@Spokane3D Yep when I downloaded it was at least 10 parts cant remember how many it was total. You select the first one (with all the other parts in the same folder) and extract them to desktop or whatever. It will take awhile depending on your computer it could be hours. but you should end up with one image.
I can't get past some linux retropie screen that's asking for commands. It says something about a password... I'm lost. I have the newest image on my sd card that you posted a video on... the one missing mortal kombat. Any ideas on how to get past this screen so i can game?
How do I configure the pi to work with my lcd display controller? I did eta primes build but when i boot it up the screen is white and no sound.. is there a code I have to do on the pi to get it to recognize?
Make sure you have the correct controller board. If its a different screen you will will need a different controller board. Which cab is this they may not be using the same lcd in the newer machines.
If it is a wave 1 arcade 1 up then make sure you bought the same controller board he did in that video (and many others)
@@ValkyrieVewas Thanks for the reply. I believe it is the second wave Streetfighter cab. I bought it about 2 months ago brand new off Amazon. I did buy the same controller via his link he gave. Kind of confused as to what is going on with it. I made sure I did everything to the letter in his install.
@@midstar3498 i would check to make sure they haven't change lcd screens in the older styles. I know they did fot some of the newer ones. You see that controllet board is set up to work with curtain model of lcd they make different boards for different models
@@ValkyrieVewas Appreciate it. I have the same lcd display as ETA but I noticed that the board he linked too didn't list the model number of the lcd. Tried ordering a compatible board with my model number. Let's hope that works. Thanks for your info.
I have a 256g sd card. I'm a noob to all of this img writing. My question is...Do you HAVE to format the sd to FAT32 for any of these arcade punks downloads to work or will it work with the default format from EXFAT? Like I said I'm a noob to all of this but I've been trying to research the hell outta all this to find my answer to this question. I've tried formatting this sd to FAT32 and my computer reads something like the card is too large to do this. Any help please?!
Have you tried this program. Just quick format it www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/eula_windows/
FAT32 with a partition program. Plenty of free ones just Google.

I am having trouble adding playstation emulator to the main screen do I need to run the setup script you have listed below in order to add the emulator. For some reason when I try to install it the normal way it doesnt show up when I reboot the system.
I’ve read Odroid can run a lot of games smoother and with less issues. Have you yourself or seen any mods of the Arcade1Up with an Odroid?
Thanks for the video! I have a question can we have the arcade controller for player 1 & 2 but also have 2 other controllers for the console games? Like 2 xbox controllers and be able to either play with the arcade controller or xbox controller?
I mean you could set up a controller for each emulator yes, and maybe have it coming out the back. But I mean at that point you might as well just have the Raspberry Pi on say the back of your TV or something lol.
When I modded mine I just ran 2 USB extension cables out the back and keep them on a hook mounted to the back of the cabinet. Whenever I wanna play something like Snes/Sega or have 3-4 player co-op I just unhook the cables from the cabinet and plug in controllers. Also makes it easier when I need to use a keyboard.
@@ValkyrieVewas hi. Abit late here, but how would a person go about installing Light guns on a modded arcade1up with Retropie and such? Can the monitor on the arcade be used with the guns? Can I plug the controllers directly to the Raspberry pi?
I added some psx roms but when I try to scrape it's like it just is scraping the original roms it came with. Do I need to create a gamelist? What I notice is that the roms I added have the extension .PBP
ive try to use retrorama image but when exiting a game to get back to all games menu the retropie seems to freeze up joystick and buttons stop working forcing me to unplug system to reboot....any ideas for a solution
Have you tried reflashing? Make sure on first boot to not push anything until you get to the controller setup.
Hi Rival Boss. I used the info from your video and the ETA Prime video and modded my SF2 cabinet with a Raspberry Pi 3 b+. I went with a 128Gig file from arcade kings. Everything booted up, have some sound issues and worse cant plan any games. I was able to get sound on the demo screens showing the previews but once I load a game the sound is gone and my coin slot / select button doesnt give credits. I config both controls, everything is set up and lights up and match all wire connections. joystick and buttons work but no coin input and it wont take me back as a hotkey ether, I have a wireless KB I use and press ESC to get out. Any idea what I need to config? I've spent half the day trying to get it work and no luck. Thanks!
I mean this is a little hard to tell without being at the unit itself. Test the sound by plugging the 3.5mm audio jack into your phone and playing one of my youtube video :P or Music. If you don't hear sound or it sounds bad it is a wiring or amp thing. For the controls it sounds like it is a problem for whatever button you set as "select"? Thus is why the insert coin, and when you press it and start it isn't taking you out of the game. Test the button first by making something else like a start button. Then if that is working make sure you are setting up the controls in retropie only once. The controls should be wired the same so you only have to run control setup once for both controllers.
@@ValkyrieVewas Thanks. I am able to get sound through the amp and speakers. It plays during the demo when you are selecting games. Once I go to the actual game no sound and unable to insert coin. I tried different button designation that doesn't work either. I also checked to make sure both controllers are set up identical. I've reset to factory settings, I've programmed both controllers, I've tried in retropi, raspbian, settings, anywhere I could dig in and make a change, same with audio controls in all 3 designations to 3.5 mil, HDMI, both, etc. I just DL'd a 32gig Wolfanoz image (per Detroit Love) I'm planning on etching in a little while and see if that works. I've spent maybe 8 hours messing around with settings and trying to figure it out, trying another image hopefully works, but I'm not ready to give up completely on this one, so I'm off to get another micro sd card, cant believe I don't have any laying around bigger than 16 gig.
yah man sorry your having such a hard time with it. What hardware did you buy aka the joystick set? And yes try different image just follow the steps in the video, but any image should work. (just have to find one that you like). I have a video coming next week with a 128gb image I like. Just making sure everything works. The sound issue has to be a issue with the emulator itself. I think honestly try a different image see if you get sound and joystick issues. If you do its a hardware issue if you don't its software.

@@justmike1561 Those are good most times. The different image test should tell you if its hardware or software settings.
Working on this myself, I got a retropie 2 though. My arcade 1 up street fighter did not work when i got it and after calling several times and getting nowhere with the company I decided to just mod it so I ordered some parts to build it.

Shouldn't you set the aspect Ratio 5:4 for the Arcade1up?
It is weird you have to kind of mess with it to find what works best for the game you are playing. But no it's not always 5:4 for whatever reason.

Hi Rival sometimes your 128 image get freeze and i have to restart retropie you know why?
I honestly havent had a issue, nor had this reported you may want to reflash image or use a different sd card maybe with faster read speed

Is it possible to remove the roms and systems you don't want/need to make it a little less cumbersome?
Yep just delete all the roms in a folder or the folder itself, and it will disappear.
This is done on a computer via wifi connection

Setting it up on Pi3 can be cumbersome as you need to remove the DIP Switch coating, switch DIP Switch 3 to up position for on, plug Spinner board to pin 3, and plug usb 3 on pi. You will need a tweezer and magnifying glass to see what you are doing.
Does anyone else have an issue with inputs for fighting games being imprecise, motions like quarter circles and half circles don't work well.
Is this an arcade1up hardware issue? Or an emulation issue?
Are you using stock sticks its not a emulation issue. Stock sticks are kind of bad, and there are some other real cheapo ones also. A good quality stock and buttons will not have that issue

Hi Rival Boss,so I downloaded the torrent from arcade punks and tried using etcher to burn it onto my SD card but got an error message. I figured maybe it's because it's a torrent, not a disk image. how do I write it onto the SD card??

Did you use the torrent file ( in the bittorrent program) to download the 100+ Gig Image?
@@ValkyrieVewas no, I just downloaded the torrent and drives it over onto etcher. Do you have a bit torrent program you recommend? And will it allow me to change it to an image?
@@nathanrivera7895 Yah what you downloaded is basically just a file that tells bittorrent what files to download. Once you download bittorrrent that file will turn into a bittorrent link and start program when you double click on it. It will download like 10+ zip folders. Depending on your download speed it may take some time. Once the download is complete use unzip the first file to your desktop. (this will take time) once down you will have a 100+ Gig Image file you will burn to the sd card.

You think i can Hotkey Start & select player 1 and player 2 without adding the coin buttons as select... Like player 1 will be start then select would be the player 2 button, but for player 2 configured all would be the same but use player 2 button as start and player 1 button as selected... Simply just reverse start and select for player 2. Sorry if confusing
Can I have pandora and raspberry in the same arcade? If so how do I make a selector switch to go back and forth between systems? My other question is how do I add all the marvel vs capcom series ( 1,2 ,snk and other crossover battle games) ?
I mean you could but would have to figure out how to switch between the two usb controllers and hdmi outs. Maybe some type of switch used for 2 pcs on same monitor? I know they make them. Just hook them up like you were hooking up two computers. That image in step 2 in description will have all of those games, but also if you are just looking for roms your looking for complete sets for Capcom 1 ,2, 3 arcade boards, plus SNK rom set for either final burn Alpha or mame .78 (for the Capcom vs SNK games)

Rival Boss somehow only one joystick is working now after I used it for a couple of weeks. player 1 joystick is working but the opposite happens. then player 2 it does not work.. you can control player 2 with player 1. what can I do?
I mean that sounds like a wiring issue but honestly it is kind of tough to say without seeing it. I would say check to make sure both usb encoders are wired the same. Aka button per button. Then replug them in and run control setup. Unless you messed them up somehow in retroarch themselves via the retroarch menu (inside of game select (coin) and a button think its x) I really hope you can figure it out.

@@ValkyrieVewas I tried replugging then went in retro arch and tried making some changes there.. maybe I didnt do it correctly. So I first tried re configuring it. 1st player as usual, then 2nd player same.. then when I played a game on Arcade games (retrorama) only the 1st player works but works oppositely

Is there a demo, or like attract mode where is cycles through games when sitting idle?
There is a screen saver built into the image or you can download a different one. Attract mode is also cool but honestly for this many roms it is a little slow.

Oh for sure just have to drill some holes. Your goinf to want atleast 4 buttons per player and a start and select button. So just have to figure out where you can fit the buttons.

Hmmm have you tried saving setting in like retro arch then rebooting instead of shutting down sometimes reboot will save setting a shutdown wont
Try changing the volume through SSH or something. Sounds like its confused between the config and retropie
I set up my joystick but somehow on player 2 I can't exit out a game...only player 1 works.
Hmmmm that could be a wiring issue or you mayneed to reflash the image. Or delete my reconfigure which is in the pinned comments of my 1000th sub video.
I suggest getting an image designed for 4x3s. That image you got has 60gbs of Dos games.
Also CRT shader is a must if want your LCD toi look like a crt.
Was more so trying to find a image for everyone that has most of what they want and if does have the crt filter on by default. Making it 4:3 is a easy fix. Yes btw it does have lots of Dos games... But I might be doing something with those soon on this machine ;P
Did you have to drill a new hole for the new joysticks?
You just have to drill (or start the holes) for the 4 screws that hold the new sticks into place. (just center the stick use a black sharpie to mark the spots and drill small pilot holes.

is there a way to install the retropie without changing the buttons and still add the select button?
I mean ur using a Pi with usb encoder you could just plug in the default buttons into the decoder, and make sure you get a encoder that has the same up down / left right split wires for the joysticks(u will understand when you see them), and just add select/coin button someplace. But honestly the stock buttons aren't very good quality, and most if not all the cheaper chinese companies make better buttons. You don't have to get buttons that glow btw you can get whatever you want.

This is one of several videos ive watched, you litterally talk about gaps that people miss when explaining the process.. They do about an hour video explaining the process of what you need and the built but never have i seen until now the system set up of the Raspberry to add retropie and ect....these other guys either just plainly forgetting that thats the biggest part or purposely not talking about it idk... But great video even though its a lil old but i applaud you sharing the most important part of this Mod...
The question i have, i want the games specific games to play litterally like the arcade graphic and sound wise. This is the reason why arcades are still being played because consoles dont cover the games as they where in the arcades. So for example the TMNT cabinet plays a small diff the music is a lil different on Arcade1up compared to original and its not in a crt tv , so do you think if i where to download that game i can get it to play exactly as if it was the original graphics sound ect...?? Or you think it might visually look still diff bcuz it is on a lcd screen so the format is a lil diff?? Great video again...
What is it after I reboot system after 3 or 4 times the game menus turn all white cant see preview view can barley see game titles. It's very werid I've wiped and reinstall image 4 times same story
Which image is this? The one in the video? Yah that is weird never heard of that before. Are you using normal board used in like ETAPrimes build? It sounds like a hardware issue or are you editing something in retropie. Maybe try a different image also. Have many on my channel grab a 32GB image see if it happens with that image also. If it does its a hardware issue. If it doesn't it was something with the downloaded image.
@@ValkyrieVewas thanks for the replay I tried the 32gb version works fine it's just this one . It's work ok for the first few times but after I reboot the system a few times some of the game menus like x32 have no background just all white but you can still select games just hard to see but not all the menus are white it's very werid and I have the identical arcade1up Street fighter build you have using a rasb3rry pie 3 b+ and I'm using the retropie image that's in this video yes
@@Bman893 my only guess is something got corrupted in the download if you torrent stuff sometimes that can happen. You could try my thank you 1000 subs image which is this image only better. You may have delete a fee roms though depending on the sd card. But i included a few google drive parts which should in be less likely to become corrupted. The retro roma theme is one of my favorite followed by the dynamic duo ones

No i didn't. What type of errors are you having, download or after when you get it on the sd card?
Rival Boss not sure if it’s my sd card or what. Failed to start openbsd. Nmbd.service failed, and ssh.service failed as well. I’m new to modding so I will need to google these errors but if this happened to you help would be greatly appreciated. :)
Can i use usb instead of SD card
I mean I am sure you could find a way. Just have to do alot more work in the back end. (aka I don't know how would have to google it)

@@miltontorres9346 I think I will make a video for this, lots of people confused about splash screens. I did a quick look for the splash screen I used in this image. If you really want this intro you could download the image in description slap it on a sd card and then Wifi pull it off the running Raspberry pi image. I just released my retrorama image which will have all the filters and overlays already off if you would like to do this the most easy way you can. Check out my 1000 Sub video, I just put up yesterday.

Kind of depends on what roms you're looking for. These images are preloaded with them though.
Im tempted just to order a pre loaded sd card on ebay so I don't have to look forever into roms.

Its just a 32. Im not savvy on finding roms and what not but I have a friend that is. He says it would be very difficult to find reliable sites for them. Im looking to Mod my A1up cab with his help.
