    Wow your repairs were cheap! Good job. I had a 2007 Audi A8 that I paid about $8k total in repairs and maintenance over the 3 years I had it. You really lucked out in saving a bundle with that extended warranty. Additionally, just wanted to comment I love your interior. Nice to see the wood interior instead of the low quality plastic that is so much more popular and expensive (The carbon fiber reinforced polymer). Carbon fiber should be reserved for actually making things lighter, we dont need to have it reinforce plastic on our dash when it doesn't save any weight.

    Great video. The only thing I have to say is I've taken my 2014 S8 to St. Paul Audi once and I will never step on the lot again. I was lied to by the service advisor regarding work to be completed and cost. Beware of Audi St. Paul. Mpls Audi has treated me like a king and I will never go anywhere else.

    Hey man, newly subscribed, love your channel... I had a 98 A8 4.2L a few years ago. It was an older car, 190k Miles... one time I was trying to look down into the back of the engine and I was gently pulling the heater core hoses back, accidentally snapped the inlets that are kind of inside the cowl area, 2 weeks and $550 for parts and repair!!! That part had to come from Germany... I’m a HUGE fan of the S8! Will have one ASAP.. may i Suggest listening to The Crystal Method album “Vegas” on a good drive... I’m sure there would be a copyright issue with putting it in a video but it’s AWESOME to drive to, I’m sure it’ll sound good on a B&O system too!!! Thanks a lot for the channel and be safe ...

    Great video and thanks for going to the effort, they are great cars but not cheap to fix so buying a mint one is paramount I feel. As you may know I brought a 2008 one recently drive it back 400k’s from Auckland, NZ to home and as before, loved driving it. My one had only done 51K kilometres and drove like it had, also had Miltek exhaust, Beltronics built in radar (awesome extra). With dealer history, great tyres, good rotors, newly serviced etc.
    I use to just start it up in that garage from cold just to listen to that beautiful V10 see my video on my channel. I have another Audi a A4 3.0 TDi convertible s-line which I have had remapped to around 310HP and 560 NM of torque, so with the V10 and the A4 I had it covered, I drove the V10 around for a bit and loved the sound, love the amazing class of this car. Here in NZ sadly gas is not cheap and I only use 98 octane which is the most expensive.
    Then I drove my A4 and to be honest the torque for me is where it’s at, effortless pull in S mode with the paddles is so much fun, roof down and with that S-line and some good rubber, slightly lowered on a twisting road is just co cool and would take my V10 on a twisting hilly back road. Add in the Gas mileage the diesel for me is a good option, ideal world I would have both but I can’t justify having both. So the story ends for me with the S8 for the moment, I really like the new S8 though chipped to 680HP is a beast! So who knows, in the meantime I made a video on the walk through of my S8 put it up for sale, 1st caller over the phone brought it and told me the video sold it to him (food for thought guys) So I brought it for $33500NZ after some haggling and on sold for over 42k, owned it for 6 weeks put on 2000k and had a blast, pocketed a nice holiday and the new owner just fell in love……a happy ending of a cool car journey. Thanks Auto Detour for all your great videos I will look forward to more, in the meantime where is that for sale page Audi S8 680HP…… may have wait till the wife pop’s out. Carpe Diem Dave

      I saw your S8 on your channel a while back. Beautiful car and sounded great too! Bummer you had to get rid of it! 98 octane at the pump! That's crazy! I use 91ethanol free over the 93 with ethanol. Thanks for the feedback!

    How is a paddle shifter falling off not covered under warranty? It’s a piece of cake to fix. Also 1200$ for a mirror motor is way overpriced. Good thing you had extended warranty but still. Subscribed anyway. Love your videos.

    As a newcomer looking to sell my 2011 n55 e90 335i and pick up one of these, how reliable is the 5.2fsi? And being a DIYer, how feasible is it to work on the engine myself? Electronic bits breaking so long as they don't affect drivability are fine by me.

    I have a D3 3.0 TDi. And I do all my own maintenance, I AM THE WARRANTY. Wait,.. Wrong channel. These land yachts are great, and if you have the warranty, why not use the dealer. But if you don’t extend the warranty and have some time and patience, you can repair them yourself.

    man 350 bucks is what a independent garage would charge for those repairs with no warranty of course the only downside is the parts if they could not be cheap replacements the oem versions would cost a fortune from the dealer: my a4 had a liscence plate light capsule that got coroded the local mechanic fixed it for registration tech test and it cost me 90 euro >>> 15 labour and 75 for the part. now you can buy the part on ebay for $5 to $15 just need to wait for the piece in the post...

    @Autodetour [I know you have the D3] or anyone with a D4 S8. What tires are you running on your S8 for winter? Do you have summer/ winter tires, or have you found an All Season tire? My tires are Dunlops ~ $3800 for 4?! Trying to avoid winter tires.

    There are tons of export auto repair places around that can fix Audi's just as well, if not better, than the dealer. And they do it at a fraction of the cost.

    Well another great video so the subscribe button has been hit. You actually seem to have got off lightly with some of those items. Audi in the Uk charge substantially more. I also have a 2007 Audi S8.
    Firstly I had the exact same headlight bulb issue and was quoted £304 (approx $433) with 90 minutes labour. This I obviously refused, got 2 new bulbs on discount through a friends trade account at £60 and replaced both driver and passenger side headlight bulbs in 50 minutes. Thats 50 minutes total not each.
    I have also the same parking sensor issue, a new sensor unpainted cost me £93 (approx $132).
    Back in 2015 the folding satnav screen mechanism broke. One of the plastic gear wheels lost a couple of teeth. Quoted repair by Audi £732 (approx $1042) not including labour. Found a youtube tutorial of how to carry out the repair myself as well as a link on the same video to buy new gear wheels made from a stronger plastic. Total cost for that repair, £55 (approx $78) so a massive saving there.
    * VERY IMPORTANT*
    If your satnav screen starts juddering or sticking when folding in/out of the dash, get it repaired RIGHT AWAY. If you don't and it jams half way out like mine its a real headache to remove the unit for repair.
    My next big project are my led taillights, they all have condensation buildup inside and a number of the leds have started to fail. I have spent so far around £100 (approx $142) on all the kit I will need to attempt the repair myself in the coming weeks. If I'm successful this will be a massive saving as for just the passenger side clusters ( the wing cluster and trunk cluster) I've been quoted a price not including labour of £762 (approx $1085) which will bring all four units to a parts only price of £1524 ($2170) which is insane.
    Its definately worth having a look on google and youtube to find tutorials on how to carry out some of the work yourself. Items such as the enviromental/pollen filter can be changed with nothing but a small coin as a tool in under 5 minutes. New wiper blades which are supposed to be dealer fit can be changed in 30 seconds. Trust me its woryh trying some of the simpler stuff yourself. I'll try to keep you posted on the taillight repair.
    Keep up the great videos and happy motoring buddy.

      Thanks, man! I agree. They were very fair on the things I had to pay out of pocket. But they certainly didn't hold back on the items that were charged to the extended warranty company. LOL! Thanks for the tips! I usually try to fix everything myself, but wanted to use my warranty before it's up later this year. Sounds like your dealership is pretty proud of their work! Those prices are crazy!
      Yes! Keep me updated on your progress! Would love to hear how it's coming along!

    • @suprafrase
      @suprafrase 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Auto Detour well they shouldn't be that proud of their work. At the last service the technician who did the oil change either didn't tighten the sump plug properly or as I suspect reused the old crush washer. Result being the car was slowly seeping oil, because the belly plate under the car acted like a tray it was catching the oil while the car was parked so it went unnoticed. It would then run out the cooling louvres whilst I was driving. As the car normally never sits still for more than 12 hours it was almost a full week before I spotted it when the car had been sitting for a day and a half. In that day and a half the belly plate couldn't hold any more oil and it spilled over leaving a big patch on my drive which I spotted as I was reversing out of it. Checked the oil level at it was way down at the minimum. I had to get the car towed back to the dealership because I didn't want to risk running it anymore. Needless to say they rectified it for free and covered the towing cost but their apology was pathetic considering the potential consequences. If the engine had failed with the car having 72k miles on the clock, the cost of a replacement V10 would far outweight the cost of the car so it would've been written off. Needless to say I was furious.

    Warranty= jacked up price. Always, like health care here in the States. $1200 for mirror. Lol painting the sensor, $212 for sensor and 600$ WAY a joke. Light exchange = easy but I agree the warranty works as best as can work. $300 good deal. Wonder how much he paid for the warranty. I am quoted about $1200 for a year

    Love both your channel and car...I was thinking about buying a similar car, I mean not a s8 but a simple a8 because the maintenance costs are too high. Would you recommend it?

    • @AutoDetour
      @AutoDetour  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! If you're concerned about keeping maintenance costs down, I can't really recommend an A8 or S8. They both have mostly the same parts and they are getting to the age now where little thing start to break and are harder to find, so you will pay more. Depending on mileage and how well it's been maintained will also greatly affect how much maintenance it will need, so there's not really an easy answer unfortunately.

      Sebastian Zamparooo was thinking the same here, shouldnt be to bad most common issues are with the air suspension wich is pretty cheap to change yourself, 150 euro per air strut and 200 for the complete compressor on aliexpress

    • @sebastianzamparooo5654
      @sebastianzamparooo5654 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mistersquat5786 yes...the guy replied saying that the two cars have almost the same maintenance cost but it ain't true...I also meant to include the fuel price and I think that a s8 would need more. And the car is also costs more than the double itself

Love the car but recently my front passenger side air bag got a leak so I’ve been saving up to buy the air strut and do it myself. Do you know how much does it cost to put a supercharger and get say 700-800hp?

    • @AutoDetour
      @AutoDetour  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      First, I'm pretty sure there is no room in the engine compartment to fit a supercharger, and second I'm sure it would cost more than I paid for the car. VF engineering supercharger install on an R8 or Huracan is in the $25k to $30k neighborhood.
