It's time for an almighty Audi showdown! We've brought together the most expensive Audi saloon, the S8, to take on the most expensive Audi estate, the RS6!
These two powerhouses are going head-to-head over the quarter-mile, and we think it's going to be incredibly close! Under the skin there are a number of similarities... They're both powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, they both produce 800Nm of torque, and they both come with Quattro all-wheel-drive!
However, there's one key difference... While the the S8 produces 571hp, the RS6 manages to put down 600hp!

Nothing against the rs6, but the fact that the s8 looks so classy and luxurious yet still has so much power under the hood is just astonishing
I also think that Audi is underrating the hp figures on the S8... no way does it weight 200 ish kg more, have less HP and be that quick. I think it prolly has 610-630 ish?
@@goodcopbadcop7438 I'd say it's got at least the same horsepower numbers as the RS6. And it makes a lot of sense.
You see, when it comes to the A8 line, the S8 is the top, the best you can get. There's no RS8. But to face the competition, you need the best engine you can get. And that is the 4.0 V8 pushing out 600 hp, since the 650-hp level is reserved for the Lamborghini Urus.
Now, because it's an S, on paper, it can't have the same power figures as an RS, it wouldn't be right. But they still need the best/most powerful engine available, so what do you do?
Something Audi has already done before, with cars like the RS2 back in the 90's...claim a lower number than real.
You can even see it puts out the same torque figure as the RS6, even though it's got 29 less horsepower, _theoretically_ .
And despite weighing 155 kg more, it still manages to keep up with the RS6.
Now, in that regard, there's another advantage that comes to mind...aerodynamic. The S8, being an S, isn't as "thicc" as the RS6, its fenders aren't as wide, and I think the tires also have a smaller width, so that helps in piercing the air better.
@@Roddy_Zeh I didn’t think about that, I just knew fs that the power figures were underrated. As we’ve both said, manufactuers *cough cough germans* under rated figures alot. As for the drag CE- The RS6 has a CE of 0.35 vs the S8’s 0.29. Also yep the tires are slimmer, but the highest speed matt reached was 137 MPH before braking so I somewhat doubt how much aero would make it was faster at that speed? Then again I’m no engineer I’d have to ask someone else. My personal guess would be that it makes 615 because as you see the RS6 stays with it for a bit but then pulls away regardless of the thiccness. Thanks for pointing this out... didn’t think about it!

I'm a little biased on my opinion though, 'cause the S8 is my favorite of the entire Audi lineup. I just can't get enough of its combination of sportiness and more discreet looks; compared to the RS6, you can almost (almost XD) call the S8 a "sleeper", hah!
And yet, as Tiff Needel said on his review of the Gumpert Apollo, many years ago, "it goes like you know what...off a shovel." :P

@@superstarsfastcars There’s a very fine line between anticipation and jumping. I think to say that Mat and his colleague are supposed to anticipate the hands dropping is stating the obvious. Considering they are in a drag race and the starter is counting them down😂.
I think the RS6 driver was slow to react. But I think the S8 squats as Mat lifts off the brake before the hands have begun moving down. Which indicates that Mat jumped. I may be wrong, I haven’t slowed down the footage to see!

The RS6 has 30 more hp, 200 kg lighter and yet at best it is as fast as the S8 in a drag race, makes me think the S8 power is underrated
I work at a vw prep center and there is also audi prep in our building, I've been out as a passenger in both an rs6 and s8 and they feel exactly the same.
S8 definitely better acceleration,launch and traction but maybe if waited out for long (track/race) enough the rs6 probably could've beaten the s8?

i don't think it would keep up with an M760Li or an S63 it needs a S8 performance version
@@omerbakiu9742 it'll smoke the s63 but not the s65 v12. M760 is a v12. RS6 takes the S63 easily. S8 is the performance version of the A8. They don't make an RS8 because the R8 exists. None of this matters when a $500-$2000 tune on any of them makes them the fastest.

@@omerbakiu9742 Don't know about the S8 smoking out an S63, but yes my tuned RS7 Sportback could beat the S63 AMG in a drag race and break test(rolling race isn't done, but I guess the RS7 would win). I guess the S8 would also smoke out the new S63, cause I drove my friend's S63 and found out that it wasn't so enthusiast and the performance levels were'nt impressive for a car with that price.(So, in case you don't know, don't expect the S63 to win over an S8, it will probably not, seriously it isn't even a car for performance (even the S63), it's just for comfort and luxury.)

The S8 gearbox took a bit longer to kick down because it shifted to 8th gear almost at the same time you you floored it so the computer had to do a bit more thinking you can see it in rev counter 5:04
i just checked it frame by frame but it was already in 8th gear so it probably is just slower or maybe mat did not kick down properly...

@@naseralshareef3026 It had just shifted, the RPMs were still dropping from it. This has happened in other videos with the RS6 as well, it's really annoying to watch as it doesn't invite a fair comparison.

You gotta let the other drivers know whether to start moving as soon as the arms start dropping, or to launch when they have fully dropped. This is not the first time it has happened.

Actually, they both started at the EXACT same time in the first race. Watch it at 0.25 speed
Any one that thinks it's when the arms are fully dropped is an absolute mug though, so it doesn't need to be said.

RS6 has consistently performed oddly in drag tests. I think Audi has tinkered with the programming in the RS6 in an odd way.
@@fbander6066 New RS6 is a disappointment for Audi fans and they know it. When they announced the new RS6 all Audi fans was raving how it will compete or even be better than the e63s and f90 m5, that definitely isn't the case. Some might say it's no different then the outgoing RS6. Audi dropped the ball in my opinion.
@@talkditingsdem5799 I am an RS6 fan, and I totally agree with u. The new RS6 doesn't have the performance to wear the RS badge in my opinion. Exhaust sounds crap, gearbox is slow, and the 4L V8 is just not sporty enough. But design-wise the RS6 is a beast!

The S8 all the way. I drove AMG models for years, but I got tired of the rough ride and extra noise after the initial excitement wore off. So now my daily driver is a 2017 W222 S-Class (still have an SL AMG for weekends) and a big, quieter car is so much more relaxing. Same could apply to S8/RS6 I would expect.

In the first brake test you asked him to get level with you and he had to speed up slightly to do that.
For the camera, being level looks good, but I think as long as you’re both going 70 when you hit the line, it doesn’t matter otherwise if you’re slightly staggered

Honda and Subaru have more than 300hp, but the Alfa Romeo has 'only 280', but it has the automatic gearbox. This really would be interesting 💙

From the factory it didn’t. It was muffled like most Audis. Insane combination however, my favorite RS6.

Have to launch before the hand goes down cause there’s a lag for the engine to move. Like drag racing you don’t go when it’s green, it’s when the light goes off on the 2nd yellow

It massively depreciates and breaks repeatedly, meanwhile the family's carpet laying business goes under and the car (and dog) "has to go!", at a bargain price with and engine warning light on.
Along comes a high growth millenial drug dealer. Who also settles for this and not the supercar they wanted. Sold! and he throws in a bag of blow to help the previous owners troubles.
This is where Yanni steps in, the whole car is now tinted and wrapped to remove all reference to the original buyer and the family.
The car spends the next decade being run into the ground as it is used to haul mates, drugs and weapons, from Asda carpark to local estate and county line. Its ends its day burnt out in a ditch outside Mats house in Essex surrounded by traffic enforcement.

Also wonder if the S8's suspension levels itself out dynamically as it's a posher car - levelling the car provides better grip.
You can see A8s doing this in crash tests too - raising the sill for a side impact.
