  • August is historically the most popular month for a wedding in the UK, with around 25,000 tying the knot during the month last year. But now a different trend is occurring - dry weddings are on the rise - with Google searches for ‘dry wedding’ increasing by 69% in the last year. As more people embrace a teetotal lifestyle, are booze-free weddings better?

It’s so sad that people rely on alcohol for a good time

I only drink in big social events because I’m so nervous about socialising. I know it’s not healthy but a wedding without a drink sounds terrible for me

I don't drink however, at a wedding do you not cater for your guests and not expect everyone to cater to you.
If you don't drink like me, then you can't expect everyone who attends a wedding not to drink, that's their choice not yours.

Brilliant answer. I wish more people held opinions like yours. A different but tolerant of others that do no harm mentality.

@@mikesecondname we all have choices Mike, and to take choices away doesn't make it right regardless of what the other person thinks.
      Have a good day.

No. We’ve been having booze at weddings in Great Britain for longer some countries in Europe have existed as a state. Should we have flowers and tablecloth free weddings to save a bit of brass too? We don’t need to have this discussion, if you don’t drink alcohol then don’t drink. I’m not even a big drinker and I’m against this as a concept.

I don’t think people that have booze free weddings do it to stop guests who like a drink from drinking, it is more the vibe and atmosphere the couple are trying to create. There are other ways to create the chilled vibe by having entertainment for the guests or the type of guests you invite. It will be very embarrassing for the small handful that can’t handle drink if they have too much.
In answer to Richard’s question the reason you can’t have a drink at my wedding is because… say it with me… ‘It’s MY wedding’ 😂🙈
If you don’t like it, you don’t have to come, you are a guest to a wedding you are not entitled to anything. If you are using a friend’s wedding as a booze up are you really a friend? 🧐

Have an alcohol free wedding and be prepared to be having a very very small crowd. Booze is what makes a wedding.

no. really really no. if you don't want to drink, then fine don't drink please don't force your non drinking views on those who enjoy it. i don't force non drinkers to drink or vegans to eat meat, i would cater for them and include them.

Cool story bro. I’ve got one too. I love Arabic stories and ones from the Fertile Crescent especially. Mesopotamia and all that.
Also: Anglo Saxon paganism is the best religion, Anglo Saxon paganism encourages libation, I love Anglo Saxon paganism.

@@Learnffggg again, cool story bro. I’ve got some stories too. Our thunder god/Sky father (Thor in Scandinavia) is the protector of humans. Thanks for sharing though, I’ve never read that verse before. There are some great stories in the Bible about compassion to humans too but I’ve never read the whole Qur’an and maybe not all of the Hadiths. We can get a lot of good parables from religious text.
