    That's so cool you got to ride in the F7! Definitely one of the coolest engines out there.

    Nice cab ride, I'd love to have another one (I have a video of a cab ride at the ORHC (Oregon Rail Heritage Center) in Portland, Oregon.)

    Boy, I wish Southern Pacific Railroad commuter train (Peninsula line between San Francisco and San Jose California) should save all gallery double decker and some single cars to museum. But they sold to private RR company and some are tossed how dumb are they!

    At 14:25 looks like the switch wasn't in line for you...

    • @Ferrocarril_Chicago
      @Ferrocarril_Chicago  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a spring switch which a train can trail through without it aligned in the ideal position. A regular switch on the other hand will break if a train were to trail through without it being in the ideal position.

      @@Ferrocarril_Chicago Thanks Metra, didn't know that...

      No problem. I didn't know at first either. I became a volunteer at IRM a few years ago and since then I've learned a lot, including about spring switches of course.

    How can you get a cab ride there? Permission from staff or what? I want to try this next time I go there

    Hold on a sec...@3:28. how did the train go past that switch that's not lined up?

    • @HighIronProductions
      @HighIronProductions 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spring switch - moves as the wheels go over it, then returns to it's set position.

    Did the C&NW Galleries have automatic or manual doors or door chimes? I can’t seem to find any videos of the unaltered gallery cars of C&NW or SP with their doors being operated

    • @Ferrocarril_Chicago
      @Ferrocarril_Chicago  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So these never had door chimes. Now many of these cars are still in service with Metra and they have been upgraded with door chimes. Although of what Metra has, none of the remainder are cab cars, what remains are trailing coaches. As for the doors themselves, to my knowledge these are powered by compressed air. They're manual when no air is in the reservoirs, but they definitely require some muscle, but when air is flowing through the trainline and the reservoirs are filled, these doors are definitely powered by compressed air. I believe the modern Nippon Sharyo cars are also equipped with air powered doors.
