It's mental, I'll spend the majority of the map as Lucio wall riding and jumping around...yet I'll still find myself getting trapped by junk.
With ball ..it's about holding onto that shield button untill 3 people converge on your trapped ass.

People think that Sombra counters ball, but from what I've been able to tell, it's more correct to say she counters the tank role entirely. If anything, ball is the best tank to play against Sombra because when you get hacked you can still run away and not give her 50% of her ult
I definitely agree to a certain extent. When she was able to chain hack the same target she definitely countered ball and in ow1 getting hacked was essentially a death sentence for ball, though it was much easier to avoid cause she couldn't do it while invisible.
Now, getting hacked is bad, but there are so many ways to outplay it that I feel like ball does fairly well against sombra. I wouldn't say he is the BEST tank to go if you are struggling against a good Sombra. I think characters like monkey, dva, and may ram are better against her because they are good at spy checking and have easy ways to survive or avoid the hack.
But Ball is DEFINITELY not shut down by Sombra anymore. People still swap to Sombra when a ball is playing really well, but unless you MAIN Sombra, I don't think that is a good decision. A Ball main is going to outvalue you when you are flexing to Sombra solely to hack a ball. The downtime when hacked is only 2 seconds and Sombra does not do enough damage to totally force ball out.
Brig is, IMO, still one of the best choices against ball. Her whip shot, inspire healing, and slight burst from her packs can really shut down a ball dive against any target.
The best combo, imo, to burst down a ball is probably a zen to discord ball, a brig to protect the zen, and then a cree or tracer to utilize the discord. Sombra also works in here too, imo. The hack, discord combo is enough for the sombra to really get the ball low. IF you then have a tracer to chase down the ball after he gets his movement back, I think he's pretty much dead.

Sombra is not countering ball anymore. not until she get rehackability back.
She is not countering ANY tank either.
Because, silence time is too short to effectively do anything.
She is more like a spy/information giver/plan spoiler/ annoyance (Due to her walling on hacked targets) And flanker that work on killing squishies.
@@vatarants she hard counters tank, 1.5 seconds is definitely enough time to get the job done. The only reason she’s not that good most of the time is because she needs a coordinated team.

Shooting a valking mercy *and killing her* is now extremely doable. A lot of sometime-Mercy players haven't realised this just yet.

For the life of me, I just can't do the Piledriver off of a wall. It's super effective. Great video!
The timing is a little tricky, but try jumping backwards a little before you hit the wall.
Try practicing on corners first. Its a lot easier to get on a corner vs a flat wall, then you refine from there to get the walls reliably.

Anyone else stuck on a level with ball where you’re not good enough with the tech to get the edge to win games? I like playing him but I feel like I have to put in hundreds of hours to learn all the tech and grapple spots. I just default to dva.
Tech is entirely not needed on ball. Tech is only helpful in top 500. Ironically, watch Yeatle's unranked to gm on ball from overwatch 1 to see that. Count the number of times that yeatle ACTUALLY uses most techs in game. You will see that, in many games, he uses literally zero tech.
You do need to learn grapple heights and spots, but that is something that you will mostly get a feel for as you just mess around on the character.
Ball's gameplay loop is as follows:
Set up- Get in behind or on a flank
Scout- look at which targets are going to be juicy
Hit- Try to grapple into a large number of targets and pull through so that you can slam afterwards. Shoot at a target to kill them or roll away. If you feel like you are going to get bursted, maybe only roll though. Try to bait out stuns and then come back in to slam. Instead of going for a large number of targets, try to isolate one target and get your fireball, slam combo to kill them.
Now for TECHS- There are only really, imo, 2 techs that are needed to play wrecking ball. You do need to know how to ledge slam (This is super easy to do, just roll off a ledge and then slam back down while looking at the direction of the ledge. IMO, it is barely a tech, bronzes can and do, do it) and the Toronto Kick. The Toronto Kick is something you do when you kind of messed up your plan and lose fireball, but still have momentum. You can use it to salvage a bad engage. This one is hard to explain in text. I'd look up Yeatle's tech guide for ball.
All other techs are awesome, but completely not needed. I'm a high masters ball and I basically only use ledge slams and Toronto Kicks. I know HOW to do wall slams and super slams. But they are just niche. Wall slams are useful, but it is often better to engage from high ground anyways with a slam and then roll out anyways. It's also often better to engage from behind with a boop and scoop (not a tech, a strategy which yeatle explains in his unranked to gm) and then slam them. Imo, you could easily get to top 500 with only ledge slams. Even the Toronto Kick is niche.
Just play more. People say you gotta be top 500 to incorporate it into gameplay when all it takes is practice.
I love loading up a custom game with either low or no cooldowns to practice tech. The few seconds saves time and gets me more reps. Rolling around, testing collisions, and just getting familiar with maps.
My expectation isn't to do it all in game, but to understand how his physics works. After that I can focus all my thinking on executing my set-ups. "Scout, set-up, slam" really works, so basing my understanding of the character on that focuses my "thinking" brain. The "doing" part just shows up after games/practice.
@@gregortheoverlander4122 it helps in lower ranks aswell by using ball tech in game (double boop, wall jump, rebounds) i went from plat to masters 2 in under a season
