I did ISC extended top hats on my FCM Bilsteins. For the spring isolators, I found that Gorilla Glue works very well. It's what FCM appear to use on their 2.5" spring isolators that they add to the NB top hats.
I like this idea, well done! I too hate the idea of someone else picking out my spring rates. Maybe I want to determine my own front roll couple...why is that a crime? That looks like the sleeves recommended on the miata turbo forum. Your spring rates seem well researched. I want to see a review to hear your thoughts after a few miles. Should be very informative. Great work!
Great video Justin! - the coil bind issue and solution is something not talked about on the forums. btw - re-valved or stock Sport or HD bilsteins? pretty high rates for no re-valve if so. how is the ride? thanks.
Stock Bilsteins with no revalve. Definitely the stiffest you'd want to go on stock shocks. It actually rides really well. It's my daily driver. I love it.
If I were to build a set of these for an NB would I need to get the tophats showcased or could I just use the stock tophats for an NB? Id assum the extended tophats are for use in an NA correct?
I have a 1992 miata. would you recommend new Billie's? I'm gonna grab the NB Billies but on forums people say to get used Billies an have them revalved. do you agree? I wanna buy new ones just to be safe but will they work fine? great video btw, exactly what I was looking for. how d they drive on your car over stock?
If the used ones don't have too many miles I would get used. They are reliable shocks and will last you a long time even if used. Mine are used and it rides great!
thanks man. I'll look used! I priced it and it was looking expensive lol. new Billies $400 from tire rack. sleeves from advanced $150, but I can get some eBay sleeves for $60 and cut them to 4". springs were $45-50 a pop for qa1s. where do u buy springs? i saw suspension spring specialists for $44 and some hyperlinks for $50. and top hats were $220 from garage star but they make awesome shit. isc is out of business I guess.any other top hat options? I'm excited. thanks man! also have you seen auxbeam 7" led light bar headlights? they look sick! that's my next project!
It's cheaper, not better. This is a pretty basic design where the ride height and preload is adjusted on the same collar. He won't be able to lower it much without running into unseated spring issues because the spring isn't progressive.
@@connerbaldwin8405 I looked and considered the Tein Street basis Z for $500 which I assume you're talking about. They have the name but otherwise aren't a strong performance based coilover based on the research I've done, and still don't compare to an $800-$2000 coil over. I'm going with Bilsteins for myself and my decision is based on performance rather than looks. To each their own.

By far the best coil over video I've watched very informative thanks for making the video.
what a fantastic vids. Clear explanation and demonstration. I feel confident to have a go at this now. excellent man thanks
what happened to the follow up video of ur coil overs?
I think they failed and the car ended up totaled.
Larry Kay Why do you think that?
Love it, have been thinking of trying this rather than buying something, would be fun and can be done on a decent budget! Great video!
Great video, lots of valuable info all in one place. Thank you!

+Justin Depew Are we related
nice quality video, good job!
+Teun 1994 Thanks!
Old video and probably a silly question so not really expecting a response.
But can you put NC bilsteins shocks & springs on an NA?
No, I believe they are different and won't fit
I got some eibach, and hypercoil that came off some 2nd gen xida. They are 2.25 diameter. Would those work? I'm getting mixed reviews.
I will get 2.25" sleeves. I think it should be ok right?
Great video.
keep up the good work
+THawk Productions Thanks!
Top nut how much torque?
Your running the spring against the top hat mount? I can think of a couple of reasons why that's not a good idea
Ok, can you name one then?
where I can buy these coil sleves ?
Bazyl Mulder link in description.
Thanks mate! Sorry, I't was not working from my pc. Great job! Thanks for sharing you knowledge and experience
Just awesome
What if i want to build a coilover to lift my miata?
If I were to build a set of these for an NB would I need to get the tophats showcased or could I just use the stock tophats for an NB? Id assum the extended tophats are for use in an NA correct?
Anyone know where to get some budget bump stops?

Forgive me but how is this beneficial Vs just buying adjustables?
It's cheaper, not better. This is a pretty basic design where the ride height and preload is adjusted on the same collar. He won't be able to lower it much without running into unseated spring issues because the spring isn't progressive.
Are those swift springs?
No, two of them are Stance Springs and two are QA1.
This is sick
Absober model car please ?
Which brand sleeves did you go with?
5xRacing
how much was all the parts to make this?
About $750 but it could be done for cheaper if you got used parts and didn't use extended top hats.
Thank u
🏆
What if you hit a corner and those springs come unseated?
They won't because there is a preload on the springs. The longest shock travel length doesn't allow the spring to unseat.
Holy shi thos look good
you should do a diy bikini top install.
+Michel Navarro I agree!
+Justin Depew and a diy led tail lights, ayy
Do not ! Use that style of top hat ! No way you need metal to help guide and hold the isolator
I dont see why you would do this. I love the idea but with that money id rather get Megan EZ streets and have warranty
+Emmanuel Gamboa The main reason I did it was for fun...but I also got to choose my spring rates and those bilstein shocks will last forever.
This is a much much more performance setup than Tein or Megans in every way. Megans are more for the stance crowd. Bilstein coilovers- for driving.
please don't compare bilsteins to megans
are megans crap compare to bilsteins? or vice versa
@@OEFarredondo yes megans will be crap compared to the bilsteins.
well done sir, but the truth of the matter is you can get miata coilovers for $375, the Bilstein struts alone cost a little over $450
You can’t compare a $375 no name Coilover to these. In that same logic why buy a $2000 Coilover when you can buy your $375 no name brand.
@@ericburgh421 their not no name coilovers, I'm talking about the Tein street coils
