- I replaced my two piece full length guide rod with a GI spring guide for convenience. Unable to notice the difference in performance between the two, it's still reliable and functions 100%.
I also replaced the stainless steel spring plug and barrel bushing. The Ed Brown drop in barrel bushing did not require fitting
That's the first thing I changed when I got my new TRP.
Thanks for your information I do appreciate it
I personally would have skipped the Ed Brown bushing. The original one was fitted to the slide and barrel on the TRP models.
Thanks for showing the green scratch protector
Great Info!
I’ve seen where the same barrel bushing is used
Instead of downgrading the guide rod, just remove the slide from the gun with the rod in place. I do it all the time. Replacing a fitted bushing with a drop in (looser) one just means less accuracy.
Which magwell is that you have installed?
Nice grips, but pricey!
There’s a better way to cure your problem. Cut about an eighth inch from the rear of your guide rod. Maybe just a little more. Using a file, smooth your cut, and remove any rough edges. When satisfied, screw the guide rod together, and test fire the gun. If the two piece, guide rod tends to unscrew, clean both the make and female ends thoroughly with brake cleaner. When completely dry, apply red locktite to the two pieces, and screw together as tight as you can. Wait a day or two to allow the locktite to thoroughly. This the gun. As an alternative, buy a Wilson Combat one piece guide rod. It’s just short enough to let you, field strip the gun. That’s where I got the idea to modify my Springfield guiderod.
I changed it to one piece FLGR from Nighthawk custom, fits just fine. The gun itself is pure garbage… 1,7G being wasted.
