Thanks for the Vid! I usually walk 4.2 miles per hour on the treadmill with my arms crossed in front of me for 2 miles. I don't see very many people using this technique, but I enjoy it. To walk fast, you need to take shorter steps with a higher over turn. I am 62

Thank you so much! I've only just begun doing these exercises, but they have already alleviated the heal pain and soreness I have been suffering from. I went back to interval training (speedwalking + jogging) recently after a few years off and my sore ankles have been interrupting my sleep. The first day working through these exercises my ankles felt strong and my sleep was sound. Thank you! You and this video are greatly appreciated!

Angelene, that's fantastic! Thank you for sharing your experience and progress! Keep up the great work! You might also benefit from some of the other videos I've posted focused on feet and ankles. Check out the playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PLQ3ggWrvWXyCLMZu_FE8n3b3danhqWdAY.html. All the best!

Thanks. This is just what I wanted to do prior to my brisk walking.

Super useful, thank you. Do you suggest doing these exercises barefoot or in sneakers?

So glad you like it, Tali. There are benefits to doing them both barefoot and in sneakers, so try both and see what feels best for you. Or alternate - do them barefoot one day and in sneakers another day... All the best!

I am not understanding the purpose of these different strides while walking. I believe they are more leg exercises than walking methods.

I will try this on my front yard outside my house although my dad doesn’t let me go on the grass barefoot 🦶 since he says it brings dirt and germs 🦠 in the house 🏡

Your dad is also a germ, maybe even worse. Throw him out of the house fast, right now!

Totally disagree with this. Long strides is not the way to go for a couple of reasons. 1) It's not a natural walk. The human body has evolved to take normal length steps. Long strides, both in walking and running are, from a fysical evolution standpoint, meant for short outbursts 2) Long strides are not effective in energy usage. For one, lead legging doesn't involve the gluteus as much. It doesn't take advantage of the power of the largest muscle. I dare you to do a test for the longest distance. The one doing longstrides will not get nearly as far as the one doing the normal length step. 3) Impact. This is a serious point. Longstrides force you to land on your heel. That's fysics. Longstrides also tend to stretch your front knee which results in more impact. Also fysics. Due to an accident, broke my back, I had to learn to walk again, step by step. There's no way in hell it could be done with longstrides. The shock impact on the spinal colum is just waaay too big. That's a fact. The correct way to increase your speed and distance is normal steps with the front leg remaining under the torso ( with the knee slightly bent) and the rear leg being the drive AT A HIGHER CADENCE. If you engage the rear leg power, you'll go faster by itself anyway aaaand you'll consume far less energy. There's far less shock impact ( try longstrides on uneven terrain, you'll immediately know why it's not good at all) and you can do it barefoot or with minimal shoes. Normal width steps, rear drive and higher cadence can even be done tiptoed, as by million year design.

She didn’t say take long strides to walk faster. She said do it to exercise your legs.

@@dreabia4759 You and I must have a different notion of "increase your walking speed".
