Yup, those were the days when DC-10s and other legacy wide-body jets ruled the skies. Same engine sounds as I recall on past NW + United DC-10 flights. Same engines used, I presume, on those legacy airlines at the time they were flown.
I still occasionally see DC-10's serving fed-ex coming into our airport. It really does feel like an earthquake when they take off and land. Loudest bird ever.
The DC-10 doesn't seem like an underpowered plane when it takes off. It has power to spare it seems. It would be great if there was data to show the 0-100 mph of all planes as a comparison.
I could easily mistake it with a TF39. Only differences R that TF39 has a 1.5 staged T-fan due 2 which the sound can B clearly heard behind also. This Cf6-50c doesn't have all these hence it isn't heard behind the engine also.
11:41 - Right about now, folks next to that section of windows aboard AA-191 would get the view of their lives - as that port wing engine lifted up and flipped back over that wing at O'Hare back in 1979. O. M. G.!
Yep, they were real loud screaming workhorse engines. Heard them whenever NW and UA flights came into SEA + PDX when I was out there earlier. Sound effects are very close to those that I remember on these old tri-jets. Loud, that's for sure.
That damn sound of GE CF6-50

That's a great seat and listen to the great sound of that CF-6 engine
Note GE emblem on cowl.
Love that engine sound! Nice video
I too, love that engine sound on this last flying DC-10. Reminded me of DC-10's flown on NW / NWA, now out of business. RIP, NW.

I guess you never heard the Concorde takeoff and also an old DC-8-63 right?
You should’ve heard about the B727 and DC-9 when they didn’t have hush kits.

It isn't but MD 11 pilots sometimes disagree.
it can fly on 2 engines

Oooof it's scary
DC-10s are cool
I wish there'd be more flight and less waiting on the ground. The clouds were so beautiful.
Wow in thoses days dc 10s engines would literally scream down the runway becasue you really heard them!

1MILLION LIKES FOR THAT WHISTLING SOUND
Asraf:
Sounds like my parents' old three gallon terlet refilling after a flush, lol!
By 10:55 you can finally hear yourself think! The sound is gone
13:45 - Spoke to soon, someone flushed that tollet again, lol!
McDonnell Douglas.
Anyone else notice right after takeoff the leading edge slats are moving in and out slightly?
She's loose after hard riding all these years lol
Oh, it's a special maneuver to stabilize climbing!
Great video!
Great video and audio, including of those big arse engines powering up to get this old wide-body bird off of the ground.
Fantastic sound of turbo jet engine
8:47 - I never knew slats were used outside of landings, unless this flight is fully booked and fueled
0:41 cargo doors and dc-10s don't go tgt well.
Same with the engine mounts
Good video
this was the 4th row after the second galley
Do you know the seat number?
It was a very nice plane 👍
Super sound!
What is that hissing noise is that a tea pot boiling or what

i came here to watch a DC-10 takeoff and saw a dragster instead.

Why is this so cool!
I really couldn't understand!
Bring Back The DC-10s :-) :-) :-)
When was this flight? Was it still recently? If so, it's great to see DC-10's still being used for passenger services!
Only 5 FedEx MD 10s left
Flight no 078
