I was using Jax Wax from their beginning back around 1993; they are local to me and would stop by the shop I worked at and ask us to test their products...cool to see Jax Wax is all the way in California.

It's confirmed every day - the right tools (and compounds) is most of what you need. Know-how next. And brawn and patience to get it done. Great tip on porosity and its effect BTW.
Knowledge.
Experience.
Tooling.
Execution.
There's your lineup for success. Without knowledge, your odds of success are minimal if not zero. Without experience, your efficiency and overall capability is minimal. Without tooling you're usually dished with failure before you even start... however, both knowledge and experience can overcome poor, minimal or a lack of tooling! Those most talented in a field can often manufacture their own tools from scratch which only is possible due to their knowledge and experience. Of course you can be #1 in your field on the entire planet... but it means nothing if you don't get off your rearward parts and get the job done! Peace & good vibes!

The best tip I ever learned doing detail and new car prep, regarding how to keep black cars clean for more than a day:

You're really learning a trade secret, here...
No. 1 way to keep black cars clean for more than a day?
Answer: You can't. It's called the "black tax". It looks amazing for about an hour, but then you're chasing dust, water spots, bird poo, finger prints, etc. Rinse-less Wash and quick-detail spray are your friends.
You can a car cover when you park overnight, but it's a matter of how particular you want to be.

I'd like to see Craig repaint the '79 Mustang he acquired... if he still has it. Repainting that whole car in the factory color would be excellent for experience via the learning process and it would be a good stepping stone toward 100% painting his daily which needs it. Seriously, if he needs to redo the entire front end + the driver's door + the roof + the pillars + the rear wing panel... at the least... then the smart play is to go all the way and stop messing around. Especially with the color being black. The daily driver paint in turn would add to his growing exp base going forward to each Galaxie as they also both need whole car paint. The bottom line is that if he wants to be a DIY guy and lay paint... he is set up with plenty of opportunity to learn one car at a time through at least 4 cars. Best wishes! 👍🏻🇺🇸

Any way you can consolidate a tools, supplies and parts list for everything that you've done on the car? I've been very hesitant on repainting my IS300 due to lack of knowledge and what tools to get in order to get the paint looking brand spanking new.

Love your style. You are wearing glasses in the video....LOL. You had a 1500 dollar paint correction done on a 5.0 with a 200 dollar paint job....with no paint on the roof. I LOVE foxbodies but man ,your style is awesome
The ffoocus was so sweet it has been a min since ce www saw it . Didn't you buy some junk yard parts for it that was rare you cleaned them with the aluminum brightener

Can the roof a d spoiler be shined up with a compound and polish? Or does it need to be recleared?
I only use the blue and the white pad. The green and yellow I used when I was new to the system. Him teaching you how to do it. He is using way to much compounded. You don’t even need half that amount.

I had a black 58 TBird for years. Beautiful. But by the time I had the California duster run down one side of the car, it was time to dust the other side again. I just did circles dusting the whole show.

That’s an awesome car! I just bought one two weeks ago. I had a Foxbody three years ago and got rid of it and my wife got sick of hearing me whine about it lol. So she told me to go buy a new one!!😁

Talking about the Clear being too far gone on the roof, is there a way to do some kind of FO TINA? Not the whole rust look, but some kind of precision wet sanding. Kinda like how your other Fox body turned out. In the long run I see you repainting the whole car anyway.

My 88 got new black paint 4 months ago but needs a pro to do a correction to it too lots of compound left all over im to impatient 4 that

Ceramic coating mah dude. If you get it properly ceramic coated all that water will just roll off and you can do very minimal car washes w/ceramic coating approved car wash materials.

Get the right Mustang and you'll love it! I drove one for about 9 years like it was an Indy car... yeah, despite my efforts I scored a couple of tickets in that time but I was also granted mercy a couple of times too by the officer who pulled me over. So what's the right Mustang? It's the one that you want the most of which you can afford! Just be realistic and you'll do fine. Best wishes! 👍🏻🇺🇸🚘

The driver side needs to be repainted whenever you do paint the roof and wing the colors not quite there otherwise great painting
I remember the car
Little by little the stang is coming along, however every time you do anything to it it shows other things that need some attention to, yes the trim but the gaps and fitment of all the body panels needs adjustments (bad), and when you do deside to paint the top you should consider just painting the whole car top to bottom front to back, you'll be surprised how much better it would look after that, not sayin it look bad now tho, scale 1 to 10 now, I'd say 6, after adjustments and paint, could be a solid 10,

Pro tip: You can't keep a black car clean. I used to campaign a black show car, won a lot of Best Paint trophies. And I will never, ever, EVER, own another black car. Not even a beater.

Craig question, My brother is planning on moving out to San Diego and I told him not to cuz like in LA everywhere you go is overrun with homeless crackheads. I know that most of southern and central california is like this but IDK if oceanside is like this. Is it bad there in the San Diego area? mustang looks great BTW!!
San Diego is sooo much better than LA. Literally anything north of the 8 freeway is chillen in my opinion. Love it out here

It sounds to me like your paint is heavily oxidized. It's possible to remove the dead paint and have enough left over to clear coat it but that may not be practical due to the truck having a lot of body damage or rust out. What I'm saying is it may not be worth attempting to buff out the paint. Since you are most familiar with your truck, you're the one who gets to make that decision. Peace & good vibes! 👍🏻🇺🇸🛻

You are right, all the compounds are the same, no one is superior over the other just more $$$. Now if you have the right buffer and pads you could use toothpaste and make it look good. No top secret formula. 😃
